The Basics of On-Site SEO

So, on-site seo is the process of optimising your company website with the aim of improving where your business ranks on Google.

This can be done through a variety of different ways, including optimizing your website’s code, structure, and content marketing.

Internal linking

Another important aspect of on-site SEO is making sure pages are linked together, using internal links, so that each page can be crawled and indexed.

Your seo company should make sure that your website can be crawled and indexed, otherwise that page or the entire site won’t appear in Google.

A well-organized website, is much easier for search engines to crawl and index, and also helps users find the information they’re looking for more easily.

So for example, if you sell e-bikes, and you’ve written a long blog post, describing a long range battery that’s fitted to a new bicycle, why not like to the product page?

To optimise your company website, start by ensuring that all of your pages are properly linked together using internal links, yet only use white hat methods.

You can also then use an seo tool like Screaming Frog to audit your website’s structure and identify any issues.

Optimising your website’s content marketing

One of the most important parts of improving a business’s on-site SEO is to add high quality content marketing.

To optimise your content marketing, start by making sure all of the text on your website is unique, so it can’t be copied and pasted from another website, also the work should be high quality.

You can then use a tool like Google’s Keyword Planner to find additional relevant keywords to target.

Once you have a list of target keywords, incorporate them into your content marketing in a natural way, (use white hat methods of seo)

Advanced on-site SEO techniques

In addition to the basics of on-site search engine optimisation, there are a few advanced techniques that can also help you improve your rankings.

These include adding schema, markup, as well as optimising your website for longtail keywords.

What are backlinks and why are they an important part of organic seo?

Introduction

If you’ve ever gone to meet the staff at an seo agency, then “backlinks” is bound to have cropped up in the conversation at some point.

And that’s with good reason, because backlinks are thought by many still to be the number one ranking factor, so out of the 200 plus ranking factors, these are top of the tree.

So what does that mean?

Well, it doesn’t matter what size business you run, all companies will be ranked according to how strong your ranking factors are.

Now some are more important than others, so for example, an internal link, although useful to shoppers, are worth less, in terms of importance than say a really high quality do follow backlink.

This means that many digital marketing agencies, ours included, still believe that backlinks are really important part of seo..

But are they easy to obtain?

No, is the simple answer, quality links,  the ones that really help improve a companies organic seo, well they are very hard to obtain.

That’s because, the other business has to want to link to you, so the best way of doing this is to add quality content marketing to your website. So, for example, if you sell lets say electric bikes, you might write a guide to explain everything a shopper needs to know, such as how long they take to charge, the range, and top speed.

Now if this work is high quality, then other businesses may link to it. So, for example, let’s say a blogger that writes about mountain biking with electric bikes, they may offer a backlink.

As long as the website which links to you is high quality, then this can help to improve your seo.

So, what exactly is a backlink?

Backlinks are simply links from other websites, which link to your company website.

So for example, lets say you run a family law practice, you might have a backlink from a website that gives out awards.

Backlinks are an important ranking factor for search engines, and can also help increase traffic to your site.

There are two types of backlinks:

1. Do-follow backlinks. These are links that pass along what’s called “link juice” to your company website, and these can help improve your seo.

2. No-follow backlinks. These links don’t pass along any link juice, but can still be really helpful in sometimes bringing more shoppers to a website, for example, lets say your car insurance company is listed on an approved list of insurers, this may help you to gain more sales, even if no link equity is passed. But as any good seo agency will tell you, its important to have a mix of both no and do follow links. So are no follow backlinks worth building, well, we would yes, most defeatedly as long as there quality links.

So to get the most benefit from backlinks, it’s important to have a mix of both do-follow and no-follow links pointing to your site. This will show search engines that your site is popular and trustworthy.

If you’re just starting to build backlinks for your business, then it’s a good idea to start with some high-quality, do-follow links.

As your business grows and becomes more popular, you’ll start to attract more no-follow links. That’s perfectly normal and nothing to worry about.

Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions. 🙂

Why organic SEO is so important for business

As more people buy products online, it’s more important than ever to ensure that your company has a strong online presence. One of the best ways to achieve this is through search engine optimisation (SEO).

To improve a companies seo, often a reputable seo company like ours is required. You do have to make sure that whichever business hire, that you are getting quality white hat work.

So what does seo mean?

Well, SEO is simply the process of optimising your website for Google search with the goal of earning more customers.

Now that sounds easy right?

Well, its really not, that’s because businesses simply know how valuable it is to be on the first page, so they will have often paid seo companies for a very long time in Cardiff to earn that spot, and  therefore will equally be paying to hold or improve that position.

This is why, when you consider being at the top is so valuable for businesses, you do have to be realistic with your marketing budget, as if your up againist companies in Cardiff who have invested hundreds of thousands to get to that point, you do have to weigh up whether your chosen seo agency can delivery on what you have invested.

Yet when done correctly, SEO can be an extremely effective tool for improving sales.

There are a number of reasons why SEO is so important for business here in Cardiff:

It can help you get more organic visitors

One of the main benefits of SEO is that it can help you earn more organic visitors from Google search.

That’s simply because when you optimise your website for Google, you’re essentially making it easier for shoppers to find you online.

It can improve your brands visibility

Another benefit of organic SEO is that it can improve your brands visibility.

This means that when people search for keywords related to your business, not only will your website appear more frequently in the search results, but your brand will also be associated with those keywords. This can help increase awareness of your company and make it more likely that people will remember your business when they’re ready to make a purchase.

So for example, if your thinking about starting a divorce, your likely to do a lot of research first, such as how does the process even start?

If a divorce solicitor keeps popping up, with useful blog posts, which help you, then when you do need a lawyer, you may call that business, so writing content marketing, that’s high quality can help improve your brands visibility.

seo can help your company to rank higher in search results

One of the most important benefits of white hat SEO is that it can help your business to rank higher in search results.

Now this may sound obvious, yet, what businesses sometimes don’t realise is that a really good seo company can get your business onto first page for sometimes hundreds of different keywords.

seo can help you to generate more leads

SEO can also help you generate more leads.

Thats because when people search for keywords related to your business, let’s say its “loft conversion companies” they know the exact type of product or service that they want, so if your seo consultant can get your company to rank at the top, you stand a much better chance of being the company that’s contacted by new customers.

So, if you can earn a high ranking for these keywords, you’ll be more likely to generate new leads and customers.

Some of the things that Google looks at include the quality of your website’s content marketing , and how many other websites are linking to yours.

Theres’s hundreds of other ranking factors that you can also improve.

Ultimately, SEO is an extremely valuable tool for many businesses which want to generate more sales.

SEO Pricing: How much does organic SEO Cost in Cardiff?

Are you wondering how much organic SEO will cost you here in Cardiff?

Well, the answer depends on a number of different factors, which is mostly based on how much competition there is.

Obviously the next thing that can influence cost is which agency you choose, obviously agencies with a lot of staff will most likely cost more, as there’s greater overheads.

But typically it boils down to how much competition does your business face, for example if you run a solicitors practice, well, this will face a lot more competition than say a carpenter, just because lawyers typically invest a lot in this type of marketing, so the level of seo is normally high, so you will need to beat this  to rank higher, and because this involves so much work, this is why the monthly fee is higher.

That’s all well and good, but how much does seo cost here in Cardiff?

Well, we would estimate that SEO pricing can range anything from say as low as £200 a month up too £7k a month, it literally varies massively depending on the level of competition. S

o for example, getting a electrician on the first page, well that’s much easier than launching a brand new company, that wants to sell million of pounds worth of bathrooms every week, so as you can see the seo agency, they need to offer a price that reflects the level of competition that your business faces.

We offer free quotes

So why not e-mail or call us for a quote?

Be sure however that your comparing quotes on the basis of whether they are offering the same work or not.

As some agencies may include different seo work (such as content marketing or social media) in their   packages and others will offer just one type of work, such as link building for example.

Remember, that organic SEO is an ongoing process, not a one-off project. The costs associated with SEO may also change over time as your project evolves and as the SEO landscape changes. So, don’t be surprised if your SEO costs go up or down over time with whichever agency you hire.

If you have a low budget, consider doing some of the SEO work yourself or hiring an SEO consultant to help you with specific tasks, just make sure all of the work is white hat.

The bottom line is this, that is SEO, as a type of marketing that is a really important way of promoting your business, but it doesn’t have to break the bank. With a little bit of planning and research, you can find an SEO solution that fits your budget and your needs.

Some SEO companies charge according to the number of keywords they target, so for example the more you ask  them to improve, the higher the monthly cost.

While some other agencies base their prices on the number of hours they spend working on your account.

Some companies offer discounts for long-term contracts, while others price their services on a month-to-month basis.

When you’re shopping around for SEO services, be sure to ask about pricing structures and get a clear understanding of what’s included in the monthly fee, but just make sure that all of the work is white hat.

You only pay for top quality seo.

Summary

So overall, we would say monthly SEO services can vary anything from as low as £200 to £7k a month or even more, it all depends on the amount of competition that your business faces. For example if your company is in a competitive industry, so you run lets say a solicitors practice, the cost will be more each month.

Google RankBrain- how did it change seo?

Google’s RankBrain is the company’s machine-learning and artificial intelligence (AI) system.  It is also said to be able to understand searcher intent and get smarter over time. Google first announced RankBrain back in October 2015,

Google has said that RankBrain is now the third most important ranking signal contributing to search results, after content marketing and backlinks.

So, what does this all mean for SEOs and webmasters? Well In this guide, we’ll cover everything you need to know about Google RankBrain, including:

What exactly is Google RankBrain and how does it work?

What are the implications of Google RankBrain for SEOs?

How can you optimise your website for RankBrain?

What is Google RankBrain?

Google’s ai part of the algorithm is called RankBrain. It’s a machine learning system that helps Google interpret search queries, such as find me the nearest fish and chip shop.

So that means not just all the local places to get fish and chips, but to prioritise showing the nearest take away to the person, so it all about providing more relevant results. RankBrain is still evolving and learning, and it’s becoming one of the most significant ranking criteria for Google Search.

When someone searches for something on Google, RankBrain looks at all of the pages that could potentially answer that query and ranks them based on a number of ranking factors.

In matter of fact a lot of Cardiff seo companies believe there are over 200 different ranking factors..

If you want to make sure your website is ranking as high as possible, it’s important to understand how RankBrain works and what you can do to optimise your site for this algorithm.

How RankBrain Works

RankBrain is Google’s artificial intelligence system that helps sort through the billions of search queries it receives every single day.

RankBrain is constantly learning and evolving, and its understanding of language becomes more sophisticated over time. This makes it an essential part of Google’s search algorithm, as it helps to ensure that users always receive the most relevant and helpful results for their queries.

If you’re interested in learning more about how RankBrain works, or how you can optimise your website for this important ranking factor, read on!

In order to understand how RankBrain works, it’s first important to understand a bit about how Google’s search algorithm works.

Google’s algorithm

Google’s algorithm is constantly being updated and tweaked, but at its core, it relies on three main factors: backlinks, content marketing, and also RankBrain.

Backlinks

Backlinks are perhaps the most well-known ranking factor there is, and they’re still incredibly important.

Backlinks from high-quality websites, such as the BBC help to improve your organic seo. However, links aren’t the only thing that Google looks at when determining where to rank your site.

content marketing

That’s because content marketing is also extremely important.

Your website’s content marketing needs to be well-written, informative, and relevant to the keywords you’re trying to rank for.

If your content is thin or poorly written, it’s unlikely that you’ll be able to rank well for any competitive keywords.

Summary

In order to optimise your website for RankBrain, it’s important to focus on creating high-quality content marketing which is relevant to the keywords that you’re targeting.

What are backlinks and why are they such an important part of seo?

Backlinks, sometimes just called “links”, are simply a link from another website to your businesses website. Yet they are a very important ranking factor for seo, and can also be a great way to drive organic traffic to your site.

Yet every backlink you build, needs to be top quality, white hat, and relevant.

Backlinks

Backlinks are classified as either do-follow links or no- follow.

Backlinks, whether do-follow or no-follow, may help your site’s organic SEO.

No follow links however don’t pass any “link juice,” but they can still assist with organic traffic.

Why are backlinks important?

Backlinks are a really important part of seo, simply because they show search engines that your site is popular. The more quality backlinks you have, the higher your site will rank in search results.

So for example, lets say you are a car dealer, you sell parts for classic cars. Now, if well respected websites, to do with cars, link to you, well this is like a nod of approval, to you as a retailer, this is why it can help to improve your organic seo.

So, for example, lets say 10 well respected car journalists, that regularly write about classic cars link to you, well, this will help to improve your seo.

Getting high-quality backlinks can sometimes be difficult

Getting high-quality backlinks can sometimes be difficult, but there are a few different ways to go about it.

We recommend writing great content marketing that other businesses will want to link to.

Creating great content is one of the best ways to get backlinks. If you have a blog, write informative articles that other people will want to link to. If you have a website, create helpful resources that others will find valuable.

Getting high-quality backlinks can be difficult, but it’s worth the effort.

Backlinks are an important ranking factor for search engines, and they can also be a great way to drive organic traffic to your site. So if you’re looking to improve your SEO, start by creating great content marketing, that businesses will want to link to.

Why are backlinks important?

Backlinks are important for two main reasons:

1. They help search engines understand the popularity and quality of your content.

2. They can help improve your ranking in search engine results pages (SERPs).

Search engines use quality backlinks as a way to measure the popularity and quality of your content.

The more quality backlinks you have, the more likely it is that people will find your content marketing when they search for it.

Links and E-A-T

Links and E-A-T are two important factors in SEO.

E-A-T stands for Expertise, Authoritativeness, and Trustworthiness. It’s a way for Google to determine the quality of your website. The better your E-A-T score, the higher your website will rank in search results.

What’s the difference between content marketing and SEO?

If you’ve ever contacted a Cardiff seo company, then you will know that content marketing is an important part of SEO, its therefore fair to say they are inextricably linked.

After all, without content marketing, your business is likely to fall off the first page of search results.

In addition, if your content marketing after clicking it, doesn’t answer the question, or offer the product the customer had wanted, then your bounce rate might be so high, that it damages your seo.

The overall goal of content marketing is to attract shoppers and to do this by writing useful, relevant, and quality text, which helps someone when thinking about, or who actually want to buy a product.

So what’s seo?

SEO, on the other hand, is the practice of optimising a website so as to increase its rank in the search engine results pages for certain keywords or key phrases. So if you sell electric bikes, well your obviously going to want to rank for the following descriptions of your products:

–        E bikes

–        Electric mountain bikes

–        Electric bicycles

In other words, it’s about making your site more visible, and to do this you need to have quality seo, so the search engines like Google, send your business more organic visitors. To do this you simply need white hat seo.

So what’s the difference between content marketing and seo?

Well, content marketing is part of seo, but by no means is it the only component.

All content marketing must be high-quality and relevant if it is to have any chance of ranking well; but not all great content needs to be optimised for SEO as well. For example, if you’re creating an infographic or white paper that will be distributed via e-mail or social media, there’s no need to worry about optimising it for the search engines since it will likely never appear on a search results page.

However, if you’re writing a blog post that you want people to find via Google, then optimising it for the search engine is essential. And this means adding onsite seo, such as meta titles, internal links, anchor text, titles, h1 tags, meta descriptions, alt text, and more.

So in short, content marketing is about creating useful content which helps your customers to answer a question that they have, so it could be anything from, how do you make a tasty pizza, through to whats the best electric toothbrush, through to how much will a new car cost.

SEO is about making sure that content marketing is seen and ranked highly in the search results, and that’s where Cardiff seo companies, like ours can help.

Content marketing is not SEO

Although they are related, content marketing and search engine optimisation aren’t the same thing, as we have mentioned a bit earlier on in this blog post.

The purpose of content marketing is to write information which shoppers will want to read, with the aim normally of generating more income for your business. So, for example, if you sell running trainers, you might write an article explaining the benefits of a new pair that have just been put for sale, the blog post may explain how the trainer has improved arch support for road runners, so someone reading that, which likes to run, may see the benefits and buy from yo.u

SEO, on the other hand, is about optimising your website and its content marketing to rank higher in search engine results pages (SERPs).

Content marketing is not a new concept, in matter of fact it’s been around for centuries in one form or another. What is new, however, is the way it’s being used today. In the past, content marketing was primarily used to build brand awareness and create goodwill.

Today, however, it’s being used to drive conversions, generate leads, and even close sales.

Content marketing is not something that’s completed once, and then that’s it ; it’s an ongoing process that should be built into your overall marketing strategy. It does take up a lot of time, because often say 1000 word blog posts need to be written, and on a regular basis.

And while SEO should also be a part of your marketing strategy, it’s important to understand that the two are not the same.

If you want to build a successful online business, you need to focus on writing quality content marketing.

SEO may bring people to your website, but it’s content marketing that will keep them there if its well written.

Content marketing is frequently seen as a separate part of SEO

While content marketing is frequently seen as a separate part of the organic SEO process, there is considerable overlap between the two types of marketing.

Good content marketing

Good content marketing will often focus on creating high-quality, white hat, well written work, that is optimised for the search engines.

This includes both on-page seo, such as adding titles and meta descriptions and internal links, as well as off-page SEO, such as advertising your business on on social media, such as on Facebook.

However, content marketing is not just about organic SEO.

While improving organic traffic levels is certainly a major goal, it is not the only one. Many content marketers also aim to increase brand awareness, build customer trust and loyalty, and generate leads and sales. In other words, content marketing can be used for a variety of purposes, all of which can help improve a companies bottom line.

If you’re interested in using content marketing to improve your website’s SEO, there are a few things you should keep in mind. First, remember that quality is more important than quantity when it comes to content. This means that you should focus on creating well-written, informative articles or blog posts instead of churning out low-quality content just for the sake of it.

Second, make sure that your content marketing is white hat. This means following SEO best practices.

Third, promote your content across the web. social media, email marketing.

By following these tips, you can use content marketing to improve your website’s SEO and drive more organic traffic to your site.

What does bounce rate mean? Google Analytics Explained

Bounce rate is simply the percentage of visitors which leave your website after seeing just one page.

A high bounce rate might indicate that your company website isn’t delivering what people are looking for.

So for example you may sell luxury chocolate, and have a lot of organic visitors, but people may well be looking for fair trader, or organic, or chocolates to give as a gift, yet you might not offer this, so you have a high bounce rate.

However, it’s worth noting that not all high bounce rates are negative.

For example, a product page with a high bounce rate but a low average time on page may mean that visitors are quickly finding what they’re looking for and don’t need to look any further. On the other hand, a blog post with a high bounce rate and a high average time on page may mean that visitors are engaged with the content marketing but aren’t finding any calls to action to keep them on the site.

There are a number of factors that can contribute to a high bounce rate, heres just some of them:

– Poor website design or navigation

– Slow loading pages

– pop-ups or intrusive advertising

If you’re seeing a high bounce rate on your website, there are a few things you can do to try and improve it:

– Make sure your website is well designed and easy to navigate

– Check that your pages are loading quickly

– Make sure your content marketing is relevant

– Remove any pop-ups or intrusive advertising

By taking these simple steps, you may start to improve your businesses bounce rate, and give visitors a better experience.

The Definition of Bounce Rate, according to Google

Sometimes improving a company’s bounce rate can be difficult, but it’s definitely worth the effort, here are a few suggestions for lowering your bounce rate:

– Make sure your site is fast and responsive. People will leave if they have to wait too long for your pages to load.

– Improve the quality of your content marketing. If people find what they’re looking for on your site, they’re less likely to bounce.

– Make it easy for people to navigate your site. A clean, well-organised design will help keep people from getting lost and frustrated.

– Pay attention to your calls to action. Your CTAs should be clear and concise, and they should be placed in strategic locations throughout your site.

– Use popups and other forms of intrusive advertising sparingly. Too many of these can be annoying and off-putting for visitors.

By following these tips, you may be able to lower your bounce rate and keep people engaged with your site. So don’t wait – get started today and see the difference it can make for your business!

How Is Bounce Rate Calculated?

Bounce rate is one of the most important metrics when it comes to measuring the success of your website. It is a measure of how often visitors to your site leave after viewing only one page. A high bounce rate indicates that people are coming to your site and leaving without taking any further action.

There are a number of factors that can affect your bounce rate, including the design of your website, the quality of your content marketing, and the overall user experience. If you have a very high bounce rate, it’s important to take a closer look at these factors and see what you can do to improve things.

One way to reduce your bounce rate is to make sure that your website is well designed in a way that makes it easy for visitors to find what they’re looking for. This means having a well-organised layout and clear navigation. If people can’t find what they’re looking for quickly, they’re likely to leave your site.

Another important factor is the quality of your content marketing. If you have thin or very low-quality content marketing, people are going to be less likely to stick around.

Make sure that your content is well-written and informative, and provides value to your visitors.

Finally, the overall user experience of your company website is important. If people have to struggle to use your site or if has glitches, such as main menu not working correctly, they’re more likely to click away.

Pay attention to things like load times, broken links, and usability when trying to improve your bounce rate.

If you’re concerned about your website’s bounce rate, there are a few things you can do to improve it. By paying attention to the design, quality of your content marketing, and user experience, you can make sure that people stick around and take action on your site.

Why Is the Bounce Rate so Important?

The bounce rate is a very important seo metric which you should track, that’s simply because it helps you as the business owner, or the seo agency to understand how well your website or blog is working at keeping shoppers interested in your products or services which your selling.

A high bounce rate indicates that people are leaving your site without visiting with any other content marketing, which means they’re not finding what they’re looking for. A low bounce rate, on the other hand, suggests that people are engaged with your site and sticking around to read or watch more.

There are a number of different factors that can contribute to a high bounce rate, such as confusing navigation, slow loading times, or irrelevant content marketing. If you’re seeing a high bounce rate, it’s important to take a closer look at your website and see what might be turning shoppers away.

Your bounce rate is just one seo metric to track when it comes to seo performance, but it’s an important one. By keeping an eye on your bounce rate and making seo improvements where needed, you can ensure that people are stick around to see what your business has to offer.

What is “Google E-A-T”? Why is it Important for organic SEO?

– What is Google E-A-T?

Google E-A-T is an important part of SEO because it stands for “Expertise, Authoritativeness, and Trustworthiness”. Seo agencies need to fully understand what this means if they are to write quality content marketing.

This implies that Google looks for websites that are written by authorities in their fields (so experts), are reliable sources of knowledge, and are generally trusted.

E-A-T is especially important for websites that deal with important topics such as health or financial advice. This is because people need to be able to trust the information they are reading, and they should feel confident that the author of the website knows what they’re talking about- so it’s a bit like a filter, that’s try’s to get rid of some companies low quality content marketing, for example, work that simply doesn’t answer the question, or hasn’t been written by someone with an indepth knowledge of what they are writing about.

If you want your website to rank well in Google, it’s important to make sure that it meets all three criteria of E-A-T. This is why your content marketing needs to be high quality.

This means writing expert, authoritative, and trustworthy content marketing for every blog post, and bit of written work. It also means ensuring that your website is easy to use, and provides a good user experience.

If you want your website to rank well in Google, it’s important to make sure that it meets all three criteria of E-A-T. This means writing expert, authoritative, and trustworthy content.

Why Is Google E-A-T Important for SEO?

Google’s E-A-T algorithm is designed to promote websites that offer useful answers to a question and are authoritative, trustworthy, and relevant. In other words, sites that Google believes will be valuable and useful for its users.

There are three main elements to consider when it comes to E-A-T: Expertise, Authoritativeness, and Trustworthiness. Let’s take a closer look at each one.

Expertise refers to a website’s ability to provide accurate and up-to-date information on a given topic.

Google looks for businesses that have content marketing been written by experts, so for example, our blog posts about seo, there written by someone with 10 years experience working in online marketing, so the written work should be written by someone first-hand experience on the subject.

Authoritativeness is all about a website’s reputation. Google wants to surface websites that are known to be reliable sources of information. This means looking for sites that are frequently cited by other authoritative websites, so most seo agencies, and digital marketing companies think this is related to backlinks, so if your written work has a lot of quality links, this can help improve your organic seo.

Trustworthiness is self-explanatory. Google wants to show users websites that they can trust. This includes everything from making sure a site is free of low quality content marketing.

So why is all this important for SEO? Because Google’s E-A-T algorithm is used to help determine which websites should rank higher in search results. Simply put you need quality content marketing to rank higher. By making sure your website meets the criteria for E-A-T, you can improve your chances of ranking well in Google search results.

Ways to Improve Google E-A-T SEO

1. Improve the quality of your content marketing

If you want to improve your E-A-T score, you need to start with the quality of your content marketing.

Google wants to see high-quality, well-written and informative content marketing on your website.

This means no spelling mistakes, grammar errors or typos. It also means that your content must be original and not copied from other sources.

2. Make sure your website is easy to navigate

Google wants shoppers to have a good experience when they visit your website. That means your site should be easy to navigate and user-friendly. All of your pages should be accessible from the home page, and it should be easy for users to find the information they are looking for.

3. Build a strong reputation

Your website’s E-A-T score will be improved if you have a strong reputation online. Google looks at things like mentions, social media engagement and reviews when determining your reputation. So, if you want to improve your E-A-T score, focus on building a strong online reputation.

4. Optimise your website for mobile

More and more users are accessing the internet from their mobile devices. That means it’s important to optimise your website for mobile. Google wants users to have a good experience when they visit your site from a mobile device, so make sure your site is responsive and easy to use on a mobile device.

5. Make sure your website is secure

Google wants shoppers to feel safe when they visit your company website. That’s why it’s important as a business, to make sure you have a secure website.

One way you can improve your security for your business is by getting an SSL certificate for your site.

This will encrypt the connection between your website and the user’s browser, making it a bit more difficult for hackers to steal data.

Theres so much more that you can do as well as these 5 tips that we’ve mentioned, but it all boils down to this, the written work, and all of the organic seo work you do, must cut the mustard, all the seo must be very high quality, it must be white hat, and it must be completed by an seo expert.

Is there a quick way to improve a businesses SEO?

Introduction

In this article we will discuss:

–       Why organic seo is normally a slow process

–       Why you as a business should only invest in top-quality seo

–       That there are over 200 different “ranking factors” which Google uses to work out where your company should rank

–       That if your competitors have been investing for a long period of time, why this may mean it takes you a long time also to overtake them

–       Why whichever seo companies that you hire, why they should follow “Google’s Webmaster Guidelines”

Whether you’re a business that’s starting, or you’re a company that has a long history, yet never really got around to investing in SEO, directors all normally have the same question on their lips, when they come to our seo agency.

That question is “isn’t there a quicker way to get my business to the top of Google”?

And, the short answer to this is, if were talking about organic seo, then no, it’s not a quick process, sometimes it’s incredibly slow, and we shall explain why that is so.

It’s not like our seo consultants are bad at their job, far from it, we have so many happy customers that have been with us for a very long period of time, so what we mean when we say that “organic seo is a very slow process” is this, in order to move up Google’s ranks, you have to prove that your website has stronger seo that the one above it.

So, let’s say you’re a solicitor, and your just starting, your likely going to be want to be high up the first page of Google’s results, right?

Yet, if were talking about Google’s organic results, well, there are likely to be in a capital city a number of businesses which have already been paying an SEO consultant, or an agency like ours to improve their organic seo, sometimes for a very long period of time, sometimes, let’s say for over 10 years solid, so as you would expect, their seo will be very strong.

So, if all of your direct competitors seo is very strong, and has been strengthened continuously through let’s say on average each business on the first page of Google paying an seo agency to complete seo work for say over 10 years solid, as you would expect, a brand new company, just getting out of the starting blocks, well, realistically, that company can’t expect to see results ultra-quickly, in some cases, its simply not possible.

Is there a super-quick way that a company can improve its organic SEO?

No, is often the short answer to that question, in regards to organic seo, the work needs to completed so that it is very high-quality, plus, if you’re trying to move up the ranks of Google’s organic results, you need to beat the companies standard of seo that is currently placed above you, so if they’ve invested for a very long period, with say an seo company, then things will not happen quickly.

Why isn’t there a quick way?

The simple answer is that Google uses a really clever algorithm as well as using AI, that’s artificial intelligence in order to work out how good a company’s organic search engine optimisation is.

Now, some directors of companies might think that Google, and the other search engines may only use a few ranking factors, in order to work out where any company should rank on Google. In matter of fact, Google, is thought to use well over 200 different factors, plus, it uses Googlebot, to regularly crawl and index each website, so its constantly looking for which companies have the best seo, and reshuffling the order.

So, if a business has invested in top-quality search engine optimisation, and has done so for a very long period of time, then that business is likely to rank high, perhaps in the top 3 positions on Google. So, a company that’s just getting started, well, it’s likely to have a massive mountain that it has to climb, that’s to catch up with the businesses that have strong seo, so as you can see, this is why organic seo is often a very slow process, for those that are just starting to improve their seo

How does Google’s algorithm know if  the work is quality or not?

Google will know if the seo work is quality seo or not, a lot of time has been spent improving the algorithm, this is to penalise businesses that don’t implement quality seo, for example the “Google Penguin update”, penalised businesses that had low-quality links.

Why should I only invest in white hat work?

If a business doesn’t invest in quality work, and instead implements low-quality work, then it could incur a penalty.

Why must my seo company follow Google’s Webmaster Guidelines at every single step of the way

If a business doesn’t, and it implements low-quality seo work, then it could incur a penalty.

What are ranking factors?

Ranking factors are factors which are used by Google’s algorithm to work out how strong a companies seo is. There are thought to be over 200 different ranking factors, some are much more important than others, for example a do-follow quality backlink, is worth more than say a business NAP citation.

Why is organic SEO so difficult?

It’s difficult because in highly competitive business sectors, such as say for solicitors, the standard of organic seo to beat, in order to get your own company on the first page of  Google is likely not to be easy.

Why is my seo company saying that we should pay every month?

Organic SEO is a continuous process.

Can you tell me what “evergreen content marketing” is?

Introduction

So, it’s quite normal that before you appoint a digital marketing agency, you task them with writing a marketing strategy for your business.

For example, a business will often want to know over the next say 12 months what the agency is going to be working on in terms of tasks.

Now you might be fully aware of why a business needs quality backlinks, why the website needs to be well designed and also why the on-site SEO needs to be done correctly.

You might see that a huge number of hours are being taken up by writing something called evergreen content marketing, and this might be a term that you rather unfamiliar with, so naturally you will be inquisitive as to know what this work is, and why the agency intends on spending so much time writing it.

As this article will explain, if this work is done right, in that its real quality work, written by an expert, then this work can help to attract more organic visitors, sometimes it can even mean that the business gets more real quality backlinks.

However, here’s the thing, with all things SEO work must be quality.

If you have just got off the phone to your agency, and you are rather baffled as to what evergreen content marketing is, why not let our agency explain exactly what it is and how it could help your business.

So, what exactly is evergreen content marketing?

So, when you want to a news section of the blog on a company website, you will notice that sometimes businesses write blogs very regularly. Some businesses here in Cardiff might add a blog post once a week, and these can vary from the business winning a award in Wales, right through to the business mentioning that the new staff member joined the company, through to writing about something that relates to that industry.

However, all of this work is current, in that it often quickly gets replaced by another piece of work, however evergreen content marketing is different.

Why does his answers questions to do with your company and its industry, which rarely change that often?

So, for example, let’s say that you run a fencing business, one of the most common questions you might get asked is what types of garden fencing do you offer?

Therefore, you could write a piece of evergreen content marketing explaining the you offer feather edge, hitting this and hardwood fencing, and this is likely to not change over a long period of time, it is why we call it evergreen.

Can this help me to get organic visitors?

Yes, but only if the work is high quality and well written.

How many pieces of evergreen content marketing should be added to my website?

This does depend, on for example how many commonly asked questions that your business get asked.

Your business gets asked many different questions on a routine basis, then you might want to write a piece of work for each.

However, if you run a business that sells a product which is relatively straightforward to understand, such as selling logs for wood-burning stoves, then it’s likely there are less questions that need to be written about

Expertise

don’t just hire a copywriter which hasn’t got a clue about your company, make sure that if you use a copywriter, they work with your business to include your company’s expertise.

So for example let’s say that the business is a plumbing company, don’t just get an article written by a copywriter, make sure a plumber has their input as well.

You have to make it better than your competitors

You should aim to make the work better than your competitors

Why is it important that the work should be copied?

Don’t duplicate the work as this can lead to duplication issues

Why is it so important work is useful?

The work should be useful, in that your customers should find it very useful when they read it.

Why often are these articles quite long in terms of word count?

Often evergreen content marketing has a high word count, with that said it should be well written.

Why is it important, to improve the work, for example lowering the bounce rate?

You should make the work is interesting as possible to read, as otherwise if it’s a boring and rather dull read and this is likely to have a very high bounce rate.

Why should the work be well written?

This should be well written, and written by an expert.

Is it worth the effort?

Yes, it is normally a huge amount of effort, but if done right it can help to draw in more visitors to your company’s website.

If the written work is good quality, then could it help to improve my website getting more backlinks?

Yes, if the work is very good quality, then it can help you to get more backlinks.

What are the kind of questions should the evergreen content marketing be answering?

You should answer questions which your business gets asked on a daily basis

Why this type of work shouldn’t be rushed?

You shouldn’t rush this work.

Is your agency able to write evergreen content marketing?

Yes, we work with many businesses, that are located in Wales, we mostly work we companies which are located in the capital city of Cardiff.

We can offer a wide range of services, ranging from web design right through to SEO.

What is Google Search Console used for?

Introduction

It really doesn’t matter if your sole-trader business, that’s to say, a plumber who’s just starting up his / her own company or instead, on the other hand you might own a chain of stores across the U.K and employ hundreds, if not thousands of staff, you might want to use Google Search Console and Google Analytics.

Because each tool that’s provided by Google has so many different uses, we are going to in this article concentrate on Google Search Console. Our seo consultants find this tool so useful they use it every-single-day, its essential to our agencies work, and as such, we thought we would dedicate a whole blog post to explaining why you may also find Google Search Console useful for your business.

So, what is Google Search Console?

Well, it’s a reliable tool offered by Google that provides you with a wide range of data, for example the data can range from “average position” data, so this will tell you where a keyword or a phrase rank on average for your business.

So, let’s say your business sells furniture online, you might want to track where you rank for “3-piece sofas”- you can use Google Search Console for this, that’s if your websites optimised for that term, so presuming you rank somewhere in the index for this term, so for example, as you improve your seo, you might want to check for example, if you’ve moved from position 33 to position 29 for example, or if you’ve gone the other way, and your site has moved to say position 50!

Yet, there’s so many more uses for this Google tool, that’s to say, you can see the number of impressions a keyword has, so for example, for “3-piece sofas” let’s say for example on average there’s say 5000 searches for that every day, so if you sell sofas, that’s obviously going to be one your seo company focuses in on.

Theres other really important stats too, for example number of “clicks” and also links to your site, so you can see, that if you run a company, and that company has a website, then you’re going to want to have a Google Search Console account.

Does your agency use this tool?

We most definitely do, yes, on a daily basis we use the “Performance Tab” to check where our clients websites rank in Google’s index. So, for example, we might have written a rather long piece of evergreen content marketing, we might have used the Google Search Console account, to make sure the written work gets indexed, then we will monitor to see if for a keyword, this improves, and we will also use Google Analytics to see the number of organic visitors to that piece of work, what the bounce rate is, also the average time spent reading it, we might then use other seo tools as well, to see if that piece of white hat, high-quality work, if its attracted any top-quality, do-follow backlinks, so that we can report this back to our customer.

Why would you need this if you already have SEO tools?

It’s true, there’s quite literally thousands of seo tools out there, some are used for SEO in a general sense, some just monitor incoming backlinks, others are used to send your social media advertisements when you want, that’s at a time or date that your specify, there’s a lot of different companies to choose from.

However, here at our agency, we use Google Search Console because its from Google, and because this is the search engine that our customers most often want to optimise their company website for, to improve the companies seo, well, we therefore use Google Analytics, and Google Search Console as the data is reliable and we think that these tools are very useful.

For example, at our agency, our seo consultants use the performance tab on a daily basis, that’s to check “average position” data, and to see incoming backlinks, and to also use the tool to see how we are improving our customers seo each month.

So, whether we are working on a really large e-commerce website, that’s selling, for example bathroom items, or we are working for a law practice, that has a lot of solicitors, we use Google Search Console because it simply offers data our SEO agency needs in order to see how well we are improving our customers seo.

The Performance tab, and why this is useful

Okay, so as mentioned, the Google Search Console tool has loads of different functions, however here at our agency, whether it’s a Monday morning, or a Friday afternoon, there’s a function that we use throughout the working week, that is the “Performance tab” its so useful, for example, our seo experts will check:

-Number of impressions

-Average position

-Total clicks

All of this information is in the dashboard, so with one glance, all of this information can be seen by the seo consultant.

Total Clicks, number of impressions, average position

Backlinks

Okay, so apart from the Performance tab, what does our agency use this seo tool for?

Well, our team uses the tool to see incoming backlinks, so for example, lets say we are working for a business in Wales, that retails luxury coffee, lets say this is not your normal coffee, its won taste awards, its ethically sourced, its organic, so needless to say with some PR effort, it gets positive thumbs up from food bloggers, newspapers, and also from cooking websites, and as any good seo agencies would do, we need to capitalise on this, by making sure that from these top quality websites, we get do-follow, quality backlinks, and yes, we use Google Search Console to see if we are earning these links, so that’s the other main use of this seo tool.

The manual action, and why you definitely be checking this

You most definitely do not want, a  Google Manual Action, you also don’t want any type of Google algorithmic penalty neither, as you can get these from doing SEO wrong, so this is why, a business should check its Google Search Console, to see if it does have any manual actions.

URL inspection and why this is sometimes used to speeds up indexing

Okay, so from time to time, we also use this feature, its true, if you have a website that’s ranked high on Google, then Googlebot will “crawl and index” the work- what does that even mean?

Well, think of Googlebot kind of like you would a hawk, now a hawk doesn’t miss much does it? It spots something, it then sweeps down to have a look.

Well, Googlebot is the same, it follows “backlinks” and also internal links, to make sure its “index” is kept up to date, and you may well be thinking well, what is an index? Well, an index is Google’s list of websites, pages, and blog posts.

Now, if you’ve just added a new piece of written work, that’s just finished 10 minutes ago, well, Google isn’t likely to know you’ve just clicked the “publish” button, and walked off to get yourself a well-deserved cup of coffee, nope, that’s because it hasn’t been indexed yet, that’s to say Googlebot hasn’t indexed the work, and used Google’s algorithm to work out how good the work is.

So, well your stood next to the coffee machine, waiting for your latte, the work wont have been indexed, and therefore wont be in Google’s index, so in order to help Googlebot, what some seo agencies do, ours included, is to sometimes help to speed up the indexing, that’s to say, we can log into a customers Google Search Console account, and manually enter the URL, so yes, you guessed it, we can help to speed up the time it takes to index the work.

Okay, so what does “organic SEO” mean?

Your business may well be very well established here in the great city of Cardiff, and you may have been trading for some time. Yet now’s the time for your business to expand?

And to do just that, well you’ve been looking at new ways of advertising your company, and you here from a lot of friends in business that if the quality of the organic seo is good, well, your business can climb up Google, you get more sales, and it can be an effective form of advertising.

Notice however how we use the wording, “if the quality” is good, well, that’s the key, you must hire the right agency, or company, that have super talented staff, and if they follow Google’s WebMaster Guidelines, they implement quality work, then good results can follow, however, if you hire a rubbish agency, one that doesn’t implement white hat work, well its possible, and likely the business will incur what is known as a Google penalty, and what happens then? Well, the business can drop down the SERP’s.

So, as a well-known digital marketing agency, here in the fantastic city of Cardiff, what’s the single best piece of advice that we can offer, when a company is thinking of hiring an SEO company, well, here it is, “hire an agency or company that offers truly top quality, white hat work, which follows every single bit of advice in Google’s Webmaster Guidelines, and make sure they follow the rules and don’t deviate, as if they do, a penalty could be looming!”

Why are businesses investing in this form of advertising?

That’s a super-simple one to answer, if done right, organic seo can be a fantastic way of generating sales for some companies, however, we have to stress, and labour the point again, if its done right! As it often is’nt!

I really don’t know what my company needs, is it a consultant, a large agency, or perhaps a web design business that offers SEO?

Well, ultimately it boils down to this, how big is your company? If you are a large business, with thousands of staff, well hiring a single seo consultant is not going to work, you’ll need an agency, so, it does come down to man-hours, but more importantly, it comes down to this, have you hired a person or agency which offers quality work?

So, all I want to know is this, how can I get my company onto the first page of Google?

Hold your horses, this is a question that most business owners fire across when hiring an agency, but here’s the thing, to climb the ranks on Google, in the organic SEO section, you have to have stronger seo than the business above, to take their spot and move up, so you guessed it! If they have been hiring a local seo business, for say 9 years, and you just sent your first payment to your agency, well guess what, that business that’s just started investing, your likely to have a huge mountain of work to do, that’s to start catching up. So, in a nutshell, don’t expect results overnight, its too unrealistic.

Why must the content marketing be high quality?

So let’s say you have a leaky tap, drip, drip and drip- get the idea, well its mighty annoying, so you look for some advice online, on how to fix the tap, as you want a good nights sleep, you don’t want to be listening to a steady drip in the early hours of the morning!

Now there’s one article, its boring to read, it doesn’t offer any good advice, it just keep mentioning “brand of taps + bathroom taps”- that’s rubbish seo, bound to have a super-high bounce rate, it is likely to damage the companies seo.

Now business two, well they got the problem nailed, they’ve hired a super-sharp seo firm, like us here at Tree Top, a Cardiff based SEO agency, and they have produced top-quality work, there’s step by step instructions on how to fix the tap, a YouTube video with a plumber talking you through it, there’s links to all the parts you will need, plus they offer free next day delivery- what more do you need? A plumber, well, yes that’s a given, but least you know how to fix the tap, and what parts you will need, so you can get them ordered.

Why must the do-follow and no-follow backlinks be good quality?

So many businesses from Cardiff Bay, through to large office blocks in Cardiff’s city centre, are home to companies that want seo, and think that more is better. However, a word to the wise here, more is not better when it comes to seo, what you want is quality, don’t replace this with quantity!

So, for example, let’s quiz you for a second, what’s better 100 links, where the quality is unknown, or 1 single really high-quality link, from a brilliant source, well, what would our seo agency say? We would say this, its better to opt for quality, only build top-quality links, every single link must be quality, it must be built using white hat methods.

What are Google updates?

Okay, so your company has a website, but it’s not generating much business?

So now this is got you thinking, how can you get your company onto the first page?

That’s the say how can you generate more sales and generate more enquiries?

A lot of businesses invest in organic SEO, that’s the say when you are looking for something let’s say you are looking to hire a company to build a new kitchen, the vast majority of the results will be the organic results.

Therefore it stands to reason, if you run a company, you will want your business on the first page.

But how to get there?

Will often you will need the help of agencies, sometimes a business will hire a freelancer, however if you run a fairly large business is likely that you will need an agency, because an agency sometimes employs copywriters, SEO managers link builders, someone who can help with your local seo

So basically an agency, normally employs a lot of people which can help to improve your businesses SEO.

Within this article we are going to explain why this type of marketing is not a fast process, we are also going to explain what some of the important ranking factors are, and we are also going to explain that the algorithm readily changes so you are going to need a SEO company that keeps their organic SEO knowledge up to date.

What does SEO actually mean?

Okay, so you might not actually know what SEO is, quite simply put let’s say that you run a business and you make wedding cakes, obviously for your wedding cake business you will want to get it onto the first page, and there are a number of different ways to do this, for example you might a per click, you might get your wedding cake business in the local business results or you may pay an agency to help improve your organic SEO.

So let’s imagine the business results as you would a piece of paper, that’s the say on an A4 piece of paper you would see the pay per click results right at the top normally then you might see further down the map and then three businesses alongside the map and then the vast majority of the business results will be organic business results now obviously for your wedding cake business you will want your business to appear as many times as possible, however for some companies it’s not possible to pay an company to make the wedding cake business appear at the top in the pay per click, and on the map and in the organic results as the business often will not have the marketing budget for this so often the company will just say to the marketing agency concentrate on improving the SEO so that they can go up the ranks in the organic results.

This can have a dramatic effect on a business, for example let’s imagine that you are in a major capital city and an agency is successful in getting you right to the top of the organic results for wedding cakes plus the name of the city in which the wedding cake business is based.

Obviously, somebody who is looking to find a “wedding cake business”, in that city is now going to be able to find your company much more easily.

So, this is how SEO can have a dramatic effect on some businesses, that’s because quite simply put, the agency can put your business onto the first page, but you must make sure, that the work you are investing in is white hat.

Why is it worth investing in?

Well, we would say that this depends, if you are going to invest in low-quality work, that’s to say low quality SEO, then we would say it is most definitely not worth investing in low quality SEO, as this often results in an algorithmic penalty, so it’s simply not worth investing.

However, on the other hand if you are going to hire a digital marketing agency that offers really hot quality work, which really understands your business and they also employ staff that keep their SEO knowledge up to date then we would say it is most definitely worth hiring a top-quality agency.

However, it has to be said that a lot of businesses simply will not be able to afford a top-quality agency, yet is not worth paying for cheap SEO that is low quality as this is a total false economy

Is it a fast process?

So is organic SEO a fast process, the simple answer to that question is this, it is not a fast process, however it does depend on how strong the competition is.

So let’s give you an example let’s say that you want to sell wedding cakes in the city in which your business is based, and there are say 20 other businesses that invest in SEO, well in this case it is relatively easy to start improving the businesses SEO as their own 20 businesses which are investing in SEO.

However, let’s say that you are a divorce solicitor, and your about to start your own solicitors practice new want a basic in a capital city, but it’s more than likely that you will be up against hundreds of other businesses, and a lot of these businesses are likely to be investing in SEO, so quite simply put, you will be up against a huge amount of competition, you will be up against hundreds of other businesses and these businesses may have heavily invested in SEO for a long period of time, so what we are trying to get at is that in order to overtake these businesses it will often take a long period of time and a large amount of money invested in SEO, so this is why SEO is never a fast process because you have to beat your competition, and if your competition is strong, for example you are up against hundreds or possibly thousands of other solicitor practices, then this simply means that SEO, will take a long time.

How can a business improve my SEO?

sometimes a business owner will incorrectly think that in order to improve a businesses SEO there are only one or two things that the SEO company needs to do, however this is not the case, there are over 200 different ranking factors, so what does this mean?

Well quite simply put there are hundreds of things that your marketing agency can do in order to improve your businesses SEO, they could build back links, they could improve the on-site SEO, they could rewrite the meta titles, they could rewrite the meta descriptions they could change the anchor text includes build business citations.

There are quite literally hundreds of things that an agency could do to improve the businesses SEO.

What is the algorithm?

Powerful Theme Options

So, let’s say that you travel to your SEO companies premises, you sit down and you meet the SEO manager, you might hear them talk a lot about an “algorithm”- well what is this algorithm, why do they keep talking about an algorithm?

Quite simply put it is the algorithm which decides where a company should be ranked.

So, how does Google’s algorithm decide where a business should be ranked?

Well, quite simply put the algorithm decides where the business should be ranked based on how strong the businesses “ranking factors” are.

So earlier you might have noticed that we mentioned that there are over 200 different ranking factors, so for example a ranking factor could be “anchor text” it could also be a “meta title” so what you have to keep in mind is, that the businesses which have the strongest ranking factors, will be the businesses which will be ranked on the first page.

How long will it take to get my business onto the first page?

This is obviously a question that companies get asked a lot, that is how long will it take to get the business onto the first page?

Well we would say this depends on the level of competition and also obviously which agency that you hire, now you might be wondering well, why did we say that it depends on the level of competition?

What quite simply put let’s say that you sell coffee online, that’s the say you sell organic coffee and you sell this in large bags and you sell flavoured coffee roasted coffee and whole bean coffee.

Now, you might be up against say over 1000 different businesses which also sell coffee online, so you would have a huge amount of competition, now when you think about this, those other businesses might have been investing in “SEO” for a very long period of time, that’s to say those companies might have been paying an “SEO agency” to improve their SEO for a very long period of time, so this simply means that your business that’s the business which sells coffee online, might have a huge amount of catching up to do, because the other businesses SEO might be very strong so in order to beat those businesses, your standard of SEO will have to be of a higher standard, so for the work to be of a higher standard, you might have a absolutely huge amount of organic SEO work to do.

What are SEO ranking factors?

So, what are “ranking factors”, well, quite simply put, it is widely thought by many different SEO companies, that there are over 200 different “ranking factors” and these are used by the algorithm to calculate how strong your businesses “SEO” is, now it’s not a case that all of the ranking factors are all worth the same, because quite simply put, a really good high-quality backlink is worth a huge amount more than say just a new “meta title” and “meta description” is worth, so the point we are trying to make here is, that some “ranking factors”, are worth a lot more than some others.

So, what you have to keep in mind is, whether you use a “digital marketing agency” which employs over 400 staff, or you use an SEO freelancer, that works from their home, the principles remain the same, and that is, the work must always be “white hat”.

What is content marketing?

So, what is content marketing, well you might have heard your marketing company talk about content marketing quite a lot that’s because it’s one of the most important parts of the organic SEO process.

So, for example it doesn’t matter if you run a business which is a transport business which runs say 1000 trucks or let’s say that you are a solicitor or you are a hairdresser, normally agencies will use content marketing in order to improve a businesses “organic SEO”.

However, this needs to be said, the work needs to be quality it needs to offer your customers something that they will want to read that they will find useful.

So, for example let’s say that you are a solicitor and your solicitors practice specialises in just one area of law and that is that you specialise in the area of law called family law and you specialise in the divorce process.

Now if you start to write really good articles that somebody who is going through the divorce process will want to read, and will want to find answers to the questions that they have then this will help to improve your businesses organic SEO.

Now, you might start to think well, how on earth would this help to improve my companies SEO, well quite simply put the more quality articles that your business writes the more your website can start to become an authority on the area of divorce.

So, let’s give you an example, let’s say that there are two divorce solicitors, one divorce solicitor has a really basic website, it just explains that the specialise in the area of divorce, and it might have a brief description of the divorce solicitors that work about practice and it might have another page which explains where the divorce solicitors are based, in a nutshell it’s just a really basic website.

However, there is another divorce solicitor, in the same area and they have a really good website, really high quality and they have invested a lot into really high-quality SEO.

There have hired a top-quality agency, that marketing company has put a lot of time and a huge amount of effort into writing articles that will interest somebody who is going through a divorce, and because of this, the website is now getting a lot of visitors, these visitors want to find answers to questions about the divorce process, so they are spending let’s say 20 minutes reading over the articles about the divorce process.

So, this means that this website has a really low “bounce rate”, however, when you compare this with the other divorce lawyers website, that is the business that has got a really basic website, while that’s website which is really basic have a really high bounce rate and that’s because people who are going through the divorce process are not finding answers to the questions that they have on that company’s website, so because that website has a super high bounce rate this means that it has weak SEO.

However, the other website has a low bounce rate and because it is writing really high-quality articles it has also managed to get a lot of good quality back links, and because these back links are really good quality.

How to write content marketing in 2021

Introduction

Let’s say that you’ve had a company website for donkey’s years, and let’s say that you run a pizza restaurant, it’s a popular business in Cardiff, based in the Cardiff Bay area. Yet now management have made a decision, you now want to expand, you want to deliver authentic Italian wood-fired pizza’s all over the great city of Cardiff, Wales, but how do you spread the word that your business is now delivering its pizza’s within Cardiff?

Well, as you will know, there’s so many different ways to advertise a business, print, online, radio- but what about SEO?

What about investing in search engine optimisation?

Well, you’ve come to the right company, that’s because our SEO team will now explain what “content marketing” is, and why so many businesses, here in the ultra-busy city of Cardiff, Wales hire us to implement organic SEO.

In this article we will talk about:

-What is content marketing?

-Why must the work be white hat?

-What is Google’s WebMaster Guidelines, and why should my agency follow the rules?

-Does your business write content marketing

-Why our copywriters work for many businesses in Cardiff

-What is Google’s RankBrain

-Why your business should have a Google Analytics account

-Why your agency should monitor your business bounce rate

-Why each piece of written work should be well-written and have a high word count

-Why every single aspect of the work should be white hat

-What are internal backlinks?

-What are meta titles and meta descriptions?

-What is Alt-text?

-Why must my work have a high word count?

-Why we should avoid “duplication”

-What are Google’s Quality Rating Guidelines?

-What is local SEO?

-How does Google’s algorithm decipher if the work is white hat or not?

-Why you need a quality SEO company like ours

-Why do so many businesses here in Cardiff hire Tree Top?

Okay, so it doesn’t matter if you run a really large multinational business, or you run a small business, and you are a sole trader- if your business is to improve its organic or it’s local SEO during 2021, then often you will need content marketing.

Content marketing is often therefore just written text, like what you are reading right here, however if the work is high-quality and if it is useful to your customers, then this can help to improve your businesses organic SEO.

So, for example, let’s say that you run a website which sells car parts, and you sell high-quality engine oils, if you write a blog post, with which explains a new type of engine oil, why it is so high-quality and which engines it is best suited for, then this might be a good read by people who are interested in car parts for that model car and who are interested in high-performance cars, and therefore they might read the blog post about this new engine oil, and they might make a purchase from you.

Now, there are so many SEO companies out there, that just write rubbish content, for example, let’s say that you run a solicitors practice, and the copywriter that works for the SEO agency might not have a clue about your business, or the various services that your business offers.

So, if they are tasked with writing say four blog posts every month, at 500 words each, so in total roughly around 2000 odd words, if the content marketing is not that helpful to your customers, then this means that your business is likely to incur a massive and sky-high bounce rate, which is not good your businesses SEO.

So, quite simply put, the written work needs to be very high-quality, in that it needs to be written by somebody that understands your business, or at least spent a great deal of time making sure that they research what they are writing about, so that the work is really good quality, and it is “white hat”.

So, what we are getting at is, if you are hiring an seo agency which is writing content which is not that helpful to your customers, then this could actually damage your companies SEO, what instead needs to happen is your marketing company needs to understand your business, and the questions that your customers often ask- they then need to answer these questions as well as they possibly can.

So, for example, let’s say that you are a mechanic and your garage specialises in fixing car brakes, exhausts and batteries, now, there are likely to be hundreds of other garages in the city that also offer the same services, so your website needs to be high-quality, it needs to offer helpful advice, for example, you might advise drivers on when they should get there car’s engine oil changed, or that your business offers a free exhaust checks, a free battery check, a free brake check.

Now, by advertising this, and also explaining why your garage also offers such a good service, and why drivers should go to your garage to get their car batteries, brakes, exhausts replaced, is likely to improve the company’s organic SEO if it is good quality seo work.

What is content marketing?

Advanced Visual Layout Editor

So what is content marketing?

While quite simply put it is often just written text, however the written text needs to be useful and white hat, so, for example if you are a solicitor that specialises in divorce, you might want to write articles explaining the divorce process, now, if this work is really useful, it is likely to have a really low bounce rate, and if the work has a low bounce rate, and it obtains really good high-quality backlinks, and backlinks are good quality they can really help to improve your businesses SEO,

so by offering a bit of free advice, say on the divorce process, what you are doing is offering free advice, that may mean high-quality websites might link to that work, and if the links are really good quality (White hat) then this can really help to improve your businesses organic SEO.

However, we must stress the point that the work must be high quality!

Why it’s important to regularly update your website, with high-quality “white hat” content marketing

Now there’s no point in investing in SEO to get your company onto the first page, and then stop paying an SEO business, and then the business starts to drop back down, obviously a business wants to stay on the first page for as long as possible, as if they get on the first page, for the right words, for example if you are divorce solicitor, you will want to be on the first page for “divorce solicitor” plus the name of the city, in which your solicitors practice, is based.

Therefore you should hire a high-quality agency, which can offer high-quality work, on a regular basis and this often means adding new blog posts to your company website.

Why you should we hire an agency that employs copywriters?

We would recommend hiring an agency that employees copywriters, as often copywriters will be needed to write the blog posts for your website, for example it doesn’t matter if you sell aluminium ladders or your business sells classic cars, often blog post will need to be written and sometimes these are long articles which are sometimes say 4000 words, which obviously take a huge amount of time to write.

Therefore you should hire a digital marketing agency which hires copywriters to write the blog posts, but the blog posts must be high quality and they must be white hat.

For example let’s say that you sell aluminium ladders, you may want a 4000 word article written which explains why your aluminium ladders are high quality and also what they are used for, for example you might have roofing ladders, and you might sell 10 different types of roofing ladders, you might explain different features that the aluminium roofing ladders have, for example the different safety features that they have.

Why the work must be useful

The work must be useful, for example there is no point in hiring a local SEO company and they write blog posts which your customers do not find useful. So for example let’s say that you are a divorce solicitor, and your divorce solicitors practice is based in a capital city and there are over 200 other lawyers in the city so you need to invest in top quality white hat SEO.

Yet there’s no point in hiring an agency which just offers cheap low quality work, for example they might write 400 words about how to cope while going through the divorce process, yet if them for hundred words are not useful to somebody who is going through a divorce then the work is likely to have a very high bounce rate, if the work has a really high bounce rate then this simply means that it won’t help the divorce solicitors practice to improve their organic SEO and it could actually damage the business so what needs to happen is you need to hire a company which offers high quality work and they can sustain that level of quality throughout the contract that you have with, it is therefore very important to note, that whichever agency will freelancer that you hire that they offer quality work with the quality is sustained throughout the time that they are improving your businesses SEO.

Why the agency must work hard to reduce your businesses bounce rate

So let’s say that you are a producer and you produce TV programmes obviously you want to keep your audience engaged in the program so that you can make money from adverts during the added brakes.

Now, you must take the same mindset when you are hiring SEO agencies, that’s because, if you hire the wrong seo agency, and they make the businesses “bounce rate” increase, this simply means that the website is losing your customers interest, therefore they are spending a lot shorter period of time on your company website.

So what we mean by this is if the bounce rate increases this simply means that more people are leaving your website, therefore a 80% bounce rate simply means that 80% of your visitors are leaving that page not visiting another page, so for example let’s say that you sell men’s shoes, and the bounce rate has increased on the homepage to 90%, this simply means that 90% of the visitors to the homepage of your shoe website have left the website without visiting another page.

Because you are not selling any shoes on your homepage, this means 90% of the customers are leaving the homepage without making a purchase, so obviously you are going to task your agency to lower the bounce rate, and therefore SEO company should work hard to lower your businesses bounce rate stop

Why it’s far better to have quality content marketing then to aim for quantity

So, when you are hiring a company, you should’s think that because they are offering you quantity that this is better, so what do we mean by this well let’s say that one agency says able to write for blog posts a month, but the other agency says able to write to, you might think well the agency there is offering more surely this offers better value for money?

But we would argue differently because it depends on the quality of the work, for example if you’re writing for blog posts but these are not very good, but not well written and they don’t offer any useful advice then these are quite simply a waste of time and it could actually damage your companies organic SEO.

However on the other hand if you hire an agency that only write to blog posts but these blog posts are absent quality, they offer useful advice and your customers will want to read them and quality like this is far better than opting for quantity, because if the bounce rate is too high then this will damage your businesses SEO.

Why does the algorithm only reward high-quality content marketing

Here’s the thing, let’s say that you are a electrician, in your city there are likely to be hundreds of other electricians, yet a lot of these electricians will want to also be on the first page- as then they can get more commercial and domestic work, so they might hire an “online marketing agency”- yet, if the seo work that they produce is not good quality, then the business might not stand any chance whatsoever of getting on the first page for terms to do with being a electrician and getting commercial and domestic work.

So what instead is needed is top quality SEO work, so in terms of the written work be in top quality you need to think of the questions that your customers are likely to ask you, for example you might want to explain the average cost of having a house rewired, you might want to talk about why it’s important to keep your fuse box modern and to make sure that it is checked by a qualified electrician, you might want to talk about why it’s important to have a rewire of a house on a regular basis you might want to talk about why it’s important to hire a commercial electrician who can install a electric supply to a large factory who has a huge amount of experience in doing this, therefore you are advertising your business you are adding written work which your customers will find helpful.

Why your business now faces more competition never

What you have to keep in mind is that a number of years ago it might have been relatively easy and straightforward to get your company onto the first page.

So, what do we mean by this?

Let’s say that you run a business and you run a construction company in a town, now a number of years back it might have been straightforward for the companies get your construction business onto the first page, yet now there might be say over 100 businesses that are investing in top quality SEO and therefore the standard of SEO to beat is now so much higher.

So, what do we mean by this?

Well, before you might have only needed 10 quality backlinks, yet now the businesses that are on the first page now have over 100 good quality backlinks.

So, what does this mean for your business?

Well, quite simply put some business owners think that organic SEO is like PPC, however, it is completely different from PPC, in that with organic SEO it can take a very long time sometimes to get a company onto the first page, for example, let’s say that you are a solicitors practice, it might takeover year for any agency get a business onto the first page.

So what you’re trying to say is this, is that with organic SEO it can take a long time to generate SEO results, that’s why it has to be considered totally different from PPC.

Why your content marketing should only be written by an expert

Here’s a really important point, that is when you are having blog posts and you are having content marketing added to your company website the work must be high quality and it should be written by an expert.

Now why did we say it should be written by an expert?

Well quite simply put let’s say that you are a divorce solicitor, and somebody is looking for some advice regarding their divorce, if they can’t find the answer straightaway the are likely to leave your company website, this therefore means that the bounce rate is increasing, if the bounce rate is really high your divorce solicitors website then this simply means that this will damage your businesses organic SEO.

So, this is why the work should be written by an expert, for example the copywriters at the agencies should ask the divorce solicitors questions so that they make sure that they are adding relevant facts to the written work, so that when somebody is looking for a answer to a question regarding a divorce, that they get accurate and helpful advice, and this means that they are likely to spend longer on the divorce solicitors website, they are likely to read more blog posts, they may even call the business to get more advice about the divorce process.

So what we are trying to say is this the work should be written by an expert, the copywriters at the SEO agency should readily called the business to see what facts they can add to the written work.

For example, if you sell electric bikes, let’s say, the marketing agency wants to write a detailed article about the top 10 bestselling electric bikes that you sell, then obviously the agency should call the electric bike business and they should make sure that they got relevant facts about electric bikes, so that they can include this in the article, so when somebody is looking to buy a brand new electric bike, they can read the article and they find it really interesting read, and therefore this can help to improve your businesses SEO and it might mean that person even buys the electric bike from your business, as it is obvious that you have given a lot of advice about electric bikes, so somebody can make an informed decision, about which bike is best for them.

Why the work must be white hat

The work must be white hat, it’s not just the written work the must be white hat every single aspect of the SEO must be white hat from the meta titles right through to the anchor text right through to the businesses back links every single aspect of the SEO must always be white hat, so whether you employ a freelancer works from home or you employ an agency that has 100 different stats such as back link builders, SEO managers, content marketing managers and whether they employ a vast amount of people, the principles still remain the same and that is that the SEO work must always be white hat and high quality.

Why is content marketing so important?

Without it some businesses might never reach the first page of Google, so what we basically mean is that let’s say that you run a divorce solicitors practice, or you run a construction business or your dentist, it is very unlikely for any business to get onto the first page, in a capital city, that’s unless it has invested in high-quality content marketing, whether that be high-quality “evergreen content marketing” or it is blog posts.

So, content marketing is very important to the organic SEO process, it’s also not a process that is a “one-off” and then that’s it, what we mean is, its not just a matter writing the evergreen content marketing, no, often high-quality content marketing, needs to be added to the blog section of the website every single month.

So, how does our SEO agency believe that content marketing has changed in 2021?

So we think that in 2021 it’s important to write blog posts for your company website which a high quality, for example used to be the case that you could write an article that the say 400 words, however now the text normally needs to be a lot longer needs to normally be a minimum of 2000 words yet the information should be useful.

So instead of thinking about improving your SEO, what you really need to think about is how can we possibly offer the best possible advice to our customers, so doesn’t matter if you sell bikes or you are a solicitor there is always questions that your customers will most likely have about your products or your services.

So for example if you sell bikes people might want to know the best electric bike to purchase for a certain amount of money, if you are a divorce solicitor then there is obviously going to be hundreds of different questions that people have when they go through the divorce process, so what you should aim to do is offer the best possible advice, you should aim to offer advice that is better than your direct competitors, for example let’s say that you are a divorce solicitor you should aim to offer better advice than the other divorce solicitors this way your website is likely to have a much lower bounce rate, and it might attract high quality links which could really improve your businesses organic SEO.

So, to answer the question, how do we think content marketing should be written in 2021, we would say that the work should be high-quality and it also should be white hat.

What is semantic SEO?

So what is semantic SEO, well this is a relatively new term that various SEO companies have started using, however it’s a really interesting area of SCO, it basically means that you can improve your businesses content marketing by making the work detailed and talking about entities.

So what do we even mean by this, let’s say that you sell high-value classic cars, and you ask SEO companies to provide quotes in order to improve your businesses organic SEO but on a global level.

Now the SEO companies might start to write blog posts about certain brands of car, for example you might sell very rare classic cars, so the marketing agency might talk about the model car a bit of a history about the car example you might have taken part in a really high profile race, so therefore the brand of the car would be an entity the race would be an entity and also you might talk about a famous driver that might have driven a car so the driver would be an entity.

So what are entities, what basically entities are things of importance that they can range from an event, to a product through to a person, is basically something that is important and it has facts about that entity, for example a racing driver will have facts that are known about the racing driver, for example the racing drivers achievements, how old they are, what races they take party, and what car manufacturers they represented when they were racing, so it is widely thought that was semantic SEO it’s a good idea to talk about entities and then by talking about these entities because they are all interconnected it becomes much clearer what that text is about.

So, if you are talking about a rare and high value classic car, you might mention the racing drivers name, the races that he has taken part in, and the brand of the car, it therefore becomes obvious that you are talking about racing cars and the automotive industry.

So entities can be used so that the algorithm understands what the article is about, in that it is talking about the automotive industry, and obviously as your marketing agency starts to add more articles which are talking about the automotive industry this then sends a clear signal to the algorithm that your business sells products or services that are to do with the automotive industry, therefore improving your SEO for automotive industry related terms, the more you start to talk about a certain brand of car using white hat SEO you can start to improve the businesses SEO.

What is organic SEO?

So what is organic SEO, well if you want your business to appear on the first page you can pay for pay per click, or you can pay an agency to improve your organic SEO or you can appear in the local business listings, now let’s say that you run an Italian restaurant, you obviously wanted to come up in the local business listings you may also want it to come up in the paper click and the organic results as well.

However, a lot of business owners simply want to appear only in the organic business results, now for this to happen, normally you will need the help of an SEO company and you must acknowledge that with organic seo it is not a fast process, in that you are not going to see results overnight, and for some businesses it might take many months, and sometimes for some companies, it might even take many years to see results.

Yet, with that said when you get your business onto the first page you may receive a lot more enquiries and a lot more sales this is why so many businesses want to get on the first page, but what you have to be aware of his to things that is the work must be white hat otherwise you could incur a penalty and the other thing is that you want to be on the first page for important words and phrases, for example if you run an Italian restaurant you wannabe on the first page for an Italian restaurant plus the name of the city or the town in which the restaurant is based, you don’t want to be on the first page for fine dining Italian restaurants plus the name of the city because less people are going to search for that, which means that you are likely to get less sales and enquiries because less people are looking for that search string.

What does “SEO” mean?

If you run a local business, then it’s more than likely that you would want to get your company onto the first page of Google.

This is when a lot of businesses look for an agency that specialises in what is called “local SEO”.

However, a lot of business owners do not know how the SEO process works, so this guide will therefore explain how the SEO process works at our agency.

It’s important to know that Google’s algorithm takes into account over 200 different ranking factors, within this article we will explain how our agency optimises some of these different ranking factors for our customers.

Ranking factors are simply what Google uses to work out where a business should rank, so for example a business with the strongest ranking factors will rank in the first position for that keyword.

Yet the business that has the weakest ranking factors, well for that phrase the business may rank on say page 10 of Google.

This is why a business must work on improving its ranking factors, such as backlinks if the business is to improve where it ranks.

So, without further ado let’s starts to have a look at some of the ranking factors, and how our agency improves these factors in order to improve your businesses search engine optimisation.

One of the first tasks that we complete when we get a new client, is to start to look at ways in which we can improve the businesses on-site search engine optimisation.

Often new pages need to be built, and the pages that are on the website at present often need optimising in terms of adding meta titles, meta descriptions, alt tags, anchor text and content marketing.

We are now going to look at some of the ways in which we can improve a business on site search engine optimisation.

Meta titles and meta descriptions

We often start by adding or improving a business’s meta titles and meta descriptions. Quite often the business will have a content management system (CMS) website, but the web designer has not added meta titles or meta descriptions to each page.

Meta titles and meta descriptions are not really that important ranking factor, when compared to say high-quality backlinks. Yet with that said meta titles and meta descriptions should be added to each page in order to enhance the businesses SEO.

We will then start work on adding meta titles and meta descriptions to each page, so that it accurately describes what that page is about.

If you are unsure as to what a meta title or a meta description is, it’s simply a description that will appear in Google’s results next to the link for your company.

For example, let’s say you are shopping for a new mountain bike, you may search “what are the best mountain bikes to purchase”, then a list of businesses will appear.

You may see some local businesses that are listed next to a map, these are called “Google my business listings”. Then you might also see a few Pay Per Click (PPC) advertisements at the top of Google as well.

However, the majority of the businesses listed will be within the “organic business listings”, there is normally 10 businesses listed in the organic business listings.

Often before somebody clicks on a business, they will have a quick read of the meta title and meta description which describes what that business can offer, these business descriptions are called the meta titles and meta descriptions.

Now that you know what a meta title and the meta description is, you can begin to appreciate why it’s so important to carefully write your businesses meta titles and meta descriptions.

The reason for this is if a meta title and a meta description are well-written, it will encourage the shopper to click on your business, then rather than say a business that is ranked above or below your company.

For example you may specialise in selling a certain brand of mountain bike, so this may well be written directly into the meta title and meta description, and so when that person is searching for that brand of mountain bike, you might say that they are more likely to click on your business than another business in the search engine results that does not mention that brand of mountain bike.

This is why many digital marketing agencies will spend a great deal of time writing meta titles and meta descriptions for every single product, as if they are well-written, they can improve the click through rate of a website.

This is why when we take on a new client, if there are no meta titles or meta descriptions added to each page, then one of the first tasks that we carry out is to add a meta title and the meta description to each page.

Alt text

Once we have added meta titles and meta descriptions to each page, we will then switch our attention to adding alt tags to each product.

For those that do not know what alt tags are, they are simply a description of the picture, for example if you are selling electrical items, such as kettles, you may differentiate all the different kettles by adding alt tags such as “black kettle”, or “red kettles” or a certain brand of kettles.

Again, this is not a really important ranking factor, but most digital marketing agencies will tell you that if the on-site SEO is to be improved, then this can improve your chances of that page ranking better in the search engine results. So for example, you may add the alt text for a pair of formal shoes as follows:

“men’s-formal-shoes-leather-brand”

We would therefore add alt text to every single product, so that Google’s algorithm has a much better understanding of the products that your businesses is retailing.

This is especially important if you retail many thousands of products, because you may sell for example a range of products, and it is important that they are all differentiated, in terms of brand, colour or perhaps you are selling clothing and you may wish to add the size of the clothing for example “large men’s T-shirt and to add the brand name as well”.

Internal backlinks

You may also wish to use internal backlinks; our marketing agency would therefore recommend adding internal backlinks to your website.

We would highly recommend adding internal back links, because if this is done in a white hat way, this can improve the businesses on-site search engine optimisation, we say that because Googlebot  can crawl and index website better, and it can therefore follow each internal backlink, which most digital marketing agencies would state improves the businesses on-site SEO.

it’s really important that follow white hat SEO methods, and that your business also follows Google’s Webmaster guidelines as well.

NAP

It’s really important that your business has it’s NAP information added to your website, if you do not know what NAP means, well it simply stands for the name of the business, the company address   and the businesses phone number.

It’s really important that your companies NAP information is added to your website, as this will tell Google where your business is based, its address, and your phone number.

It’s then really important that map information matches your businesses citations, all business citations should match exactly with each other.

Schema mark-up

We would the recommend that a business adds Schema to its website, we would normally use Schema to mark up your businesses name, your businesses address and a business’s phone number.

Local phone number

We would also recommend that your business uses a local phone number, rather than instead using a mobile phone number.

For example, if you are optimising your website for the city of Cardiff, we would recommend using a local phone number, for example an O29 21 phone number.

We would recommend using a local phone number, as most digital marketing agencies will agree that it’s far better to use a local phone number and a mobile phone number when trying to improve your businesses local SEO.

Can the site be indexed?

This is a really important point, that is whether or not a website can be indexed correctly.

Some businesses have a website that cannot be indexed, but sometimes this is because web designers have left a “no-index code” on the website. This can negatively affect the businesses SEO because it is instructing Google not to index that website.

It’s really important therefore that the web designers remove the no index code when you want your website to be indexed and to improve your businesses SEO.

Content marketing

A really important part of the local SEO process is to add good quality content marketing to your company’s website. It’s really important that the content marketing is white hat and that it is of good quality.

Good quality content marketing can help to improve your businesses search engine optimisation.

The work should be useful to your business’s customers, plus it can also make your website more relevant.

For example, let’s say that your business sells luxury cars, if your business regularly adds blog posts that are of reviewing luxury cars, then your website is more likely to be deemed relevant when somebody is looking to buy luxury car in Cardiff.

However, the work must be good quality, if the work is not a high-quality then this could cause a penalty and that can mean that your rankings decrease.

This is why it’s really important to partner with a white hat agency, one that will offer really good quality content marketing.

Well written

It’s really important that the content marketing is well written, by well-written we mean that it should be written by an expert.

If the content marketing is just written to try and improve the businesses SEO, then this work will not help the business.

Instead content marketing should be written to help your businesses customers, for example if your business regularly gets asked questions that you can offer advice to, then this is the type of content marketing that your business should be writing.

For example, most businesses frequently get asked the same questions, if you can offer valuable advice to your customers that answer these questions, then this is likely to improve the businesses search engine optimisation, that’s if it is written in a white hat way.

Marketing agencies or businesses that write content marketing with the sole aim of just trying to improve where the business ranks on Google, is not likely to improve the businesses search engine optimisation.

Instead you must offer valuable advice to your customers, this work should be written by expert.

Adding new pages

Sometimes what is needed when a business approaches us to improve their local SEO is that new pages are added to the website. For example, let’s say the business is a plumbing business, the company may not have a separate page created for say boiler repair or boiler replacement.

It’s therefore important that we add a page that is dedicated to boiler repair and boiler replacement if this is what the company offers.

We can then add meta titles, meta descriptions, alt text and content marketing to improve the search engine optimisation for that page.

Onsite SEO and content marketing

Once a marketing agency has written content marketing, they may then add on-site search engine optimisation to each page that they have written.

For example, they may add meta titles, meta descriptions, alt tags, anchor text, internal back links, and also a title for each page.

If this is completed in a white hat way then this can improve the businesses Seo.

Building white hat backlinks

The really important part of the search engine optimisation (SEO) process is for the business to build quality backlinks.

What often differentiates a business that is ranked on the first page of Google, and a business that is ranked on the 10th page, is that business on the first page will have high quality backlinks.

Some businesses, and some marketing agencies make the mistake of thinking that all backlinks are worth the same, they are most certainly not.

Some backlinks are high-quality and can help to improve your businesses SEO, however some backlinks can be deemed by Google’s algorithm to be low-quality and can mean that the business incurs a Google penalty, such as a “Google Penguin penalty”.

It’s really important therefore that the business builds high quality backlinks, and that these are built in accordance with Google’s Webmaster guidelines.

If the business does not adhere to Google’s Webmaster guidelines then it is possible that the business incurs a penalty.

If the business was to incur a penalty, it can mean that the business will severely drop down the ranks or some businesses can be totally deindexed which means that they are removed from Google completely.

This is why it is so important that the business builds backlinks in a white hat way and adheres to Google’s Webmaster guidelines.

If a business succeeds in building white hat high quality backlinks, then this can often have a positive effect on where the business ranks.

However, this needs to be done by an expert, because if the backlinks are low-quality then it can really adversely affect with the business ranks.

What exactly are backlinks?

Let’s say for example you are about to purchase car insurance, then once you have made the purchase the website then asks you do you wish to purchase breakdown cover?

You then choose to purchase breakdown cover, and then click on a link which takes you to another website.

By clicking on the link, you will follow the backlink, which will then take you to the roadside breakdown cover business.

Therefore, you have followed a backlink, a backlink can therefore make it much easier for the businesses customers to get to a page on a website where they can purchase a product or a service.

However, from a search engine optimisation perspective if the link is good quality then this can also help to improve the businesses Seo.

However, the backlinks leading to your company’s website must be good quality, if they are good quality, they can help to improve your businesses SEO.

However, the backlinks must also be relevant to the business, so that means that it must be good quality and also relevant.

So, for example if you run a local construction business, there’s no point in getting a backlink from your local golf club, as that is not related to construction.

Instead what you need is a high-quality backlink from a construction related website.

Most digital marketing agencies would agree that building backlinks is one of the most time-consuming aspects of improving a business’s SEO.

Our agency also believes that it is far better to earn backlinks then to build them in any other way.

What do we mean by building backlinks?

What we mean by building backlinks is your business should publish high-quality content marketing which your customers will find useful.

For example, let’s say that your business sells smart phones, then your website may offer a lot of useful advice on each smartphone, and also a review of each smartphone.

Your customers may then find this information useful, and therefore purchase from your business rather than a competitor.

Therefore, content marketing should be high-quality, then if your business offers quality advice, it’s much more likely that other websites are likely to link to your business.

For example a website that reviews electrical items, may then link to your website as it has seen your business as a good place that offers quality advice about new smartphones, some may therefore decide to link to your website.

Therefore the business has linked to your website, without your business having to ask the company to link to your company.

Therefore, the business has earnt a backlink, rather than paying for a backlink.

We would most definitely not recommend that the business purchase backlinks, we say that because if the business was to purchase backlinks, then it’s likely that the business may incur a Google penalty, such as a Google Penguin penalty.

How can they help to improve a business’s SEO?

If a business has a high number, of high-quality backlinks, then this can often improve with the business ranks.

As earlier mentioned, the businesses that are ranked on the first page of Google, often have a high number of high-quality backlinks.

These backlinks will send what is called “link juice” to the website, if a business has a high number of high-quality backlinks leading to it, then it is likely that business will improve where it ranks on Google.

Google Penguin penalty

Many businesses that have built low-quality backlinks will incur a Google penalty; the penalty is called a “Google Penguin penalty”.

Some businesses falsely believe that once they have incurred a penalty, such as a Google Penguin penalty that it is easy to recover from such a penalty, it is often not.

We say it is often not easy to recover from such a penalty simply because it often takes many months, and even sometimes years for a business to recover from a penalty.

This means that if a business was to build low-quality backlinks, then the business could incur a penalty and therefore even be removed from Google, or it may see its businesses rankings substantially drop.

This is why it’s so important to partner with a white hat agency, that’s to say a marketing agency that knows how to build backlinks in the correct way.

It’s really important that the backlinks are built correctly, because it can take a long time to disavow the backlinks and also for the business to recover from the penalty.

We would also highly recommend that the business does not purchase backlinks, that it instead earns backlinks.

Are internal backlinks worth the same as external backlinks?

The short answer is no, internal backlinks are not worth the same as external backlinks. A marketing agency should be looking to build high-quality external backlinks, that are a mixture of do-follow and no-follow backlinks.

The business should not think of internal backlinks as worth the same as external backlinks because it is only external backlinks that can send “link juice” to a website.

You may be wondering what we mean when we say “link juice”?

“Link juice” is simply a way of explaining how a business can benefit if a quality website was to link to it.

However, the website must also be high-quality, and the business must also be relevant to the website that is linking to.

For example, let’s say that you run an architect’s practice, if there is a U.K body that represents architects, then if this website was to link to your architects’ practice, then this is likely to improve businesses search engine optimisation.

However, if you are unsure how to build backlinks in the white hat way, we would most definitely recommend that you ask a white hat SEO agency to do this work for you. We say this because if a business was to incur a Google Penguin penalty then this is likely to adversely affect the business in terms of where it ranks.

How do I check how many backlinks my business has?

There are many tools that you can use to check how many backlinks that your website has, we would highly recommend using Google Search Console, and also recommend using paid tools as well to check how many backlinks your website has.

Often it is a white hat SEO agency that is required to check that your backlinks are of good quality, if the backlinks are not of good quality, then the marketing agency may need to take action in order to disavow the backlinks, and also to make sure that the business does not build any more low quality backlinks.

What does do-follow backlinks mean?

Do-follow backlinks are will send link juice, however even though it is do-follow backlink it still needs to be quality, it’s still important that the business still has no-follow backlinks as well.

No follow backlinks mean that the back links cannot pass link juice, however it still important to have a mixture of do-follow no-follow backlinks that are built in a white hat way.

How many backlinks does my business need?

Organic and local SEO is an ongoing process, this means that most businesses here in Cardiff do not stop investing in organic SEO as they know if they were to pause or stop investing rankings are likely to drop.

Having said that, to get a business onto the first page, the business must have stronger Seo than the businesses that are currently ranked on the first page of Google.

This simply means that Google’s algorithm needs to quantify that your businesses ranking factors are stronger than competitors.

You do need to keep in mind that some businesses may have been investing in SEO for a very long time, so may have been investing in SEO for say more than a few years.

This often means that a business will have a lot of catching up to do, and this also means that the business must be realistic in terms of what it can achieve in a short time scale.

Having said that, how many backlinks business needs will be dependent on its competition. A business that operates in a highly competitive business sector, such as car insurance, will be up against businesses that are likely to have thousands of good quality backlinks.

However, on the other hand a business that specialises in making wedding cakes locally, is likely to only have a few competitors that have good quality back links.

Therefore, it is much easier to show results in business sector where there is less competition.

If there is a huge amount of competition in that business sector, it is normal that the businesses that are ranked on the first page of Google will have thousands of high-quality backlinks.

Therefore, it is dependent on how many backlinks your competitors have, if they have a high number then your business will also need a high number of good quality backlinks built in white hat way.

Why is my SEO agency stating that they need to disavow backlinks?

Sometimes when we take on a brand-new client, they will have hired a previous SEO agency that might have built backlinks in an incorrect way.

This may have even caused a Google penalty, that’s to say an algorithmic or a manual penalty may now be holding the website back.

If our agency finds that the business has obtained a Google penalty, then it is imperative that this problem is fixed before we go on to improving the businesses Seo. This often means that we need to look at the business’s backlink profile, and if the business has a number of low-quality backlinks then these may need to be disavowed, in order to start improving where the business ranks.

However it’s really important to note that if a business has incurred an algorithmic or a manual penalty-  then this can mean that it will take a very long time for the business to recover from a penalty.

What is Google Analytics?

Earlier we mentioned that the business should use Seo tools to check how many backlinks that the business has, the business may also wish to use Google analytics, but to check how many organic visitors the website has, also other important Seo metrics such as the businesses bounce rate.

A marketing agency should use Google Analytics, that’s to see how the website is improving month on month- for example if you are investing in local Seo, you would want to see more visitors visiting your website each month, Google Analytics can show you how many visitors your website is obtaining.

What is Google My Business?

If you want to improve your business is local search engine optimisation, then the marketing agency should set up a Google My Business account for your company.

This is really important as this can help to improve where the business ranks both organically and also locally.

For example, if you are looking for a local pizza restaurant, then Google will know that you are looking for a local business, it would normally therefore show a map of Cardiff and where the local pizza restaurants are.

The businesses that appear next the map are often referred to as “Google My Business” results, for your business to be displayed here, your business will need a Google My Business account.

Our agency can help your business to set up a Google My Business account, and then also to apply local SEO so that we are helping to improve your chances of your business being ranked here.

It’s important to note that normally only three businesses are displayed in the Google My Business results, this is why it is important that you employ the right agency, as often there will be a lot of businesses that also want to rank in the Google My Business listings, therefore there is normally a lot of competition, this is why important to get the right marketing agency that can apply white hat SEO.

Why you should make sure your Google My Business profile is complete

Some businesses simply rush filling in details that are required to set up the Google My Business account.

We would recommend that the business does not rush this process, and instead completes the Google My Business profile with as much detail as possible.

The reason for this is a Google My Business profile can help to improve where the business ranks both organically and locally.

The business should therefore accurately input the businesses name, address and also phone number- this should match with the business’s website and also the businesses citations.

The Google My Business profile should then include the businesses link to its website, and also a business description.

We would highly recommend that your business does not copy and paste the business description from your website, as this may cause duplication issues, instead it’s far better to write a short description about your business and to add this to Google My Business profile.

It’s important to add as much detail as you can to Google My Business profile, and if your business operates in a competitive business sector, it will be competing with sometimes many hundreds of businesses to be displayed in the Google My Business results.

For example, if you were to run a plumbing business here in Cardiff, is likely that you are competing with hundreds of other businesses, so if you want your business to be displayed in the Google My Business rankings, it’s important that you add as much detail as you can to your Google My Business profile.

Add a backlink

We would highly recommend that you add a backlink to your website, on your Google My Business profile and if you’re website address changes, make sure that your update your Google My Business profile.

Add opening hours

it’s important to add opening hours to your Google My Business profile, if you’re businesses opening hours were to change, it’s important to update your Google My Business profile.

We would recommend that your business keeps its opening hours updated, because if you Google My Business profile shows that your business is open, and somebody visits your store and it is not, then this might cause a negative business review to be left, so we always recommend that you keep opening hours up-to-date

Add a business description

We would also recommend that your business adds a business description to Google My Business account, you should make this business description unique, by that we mean not to copy and paste from your website.

Make sure the NAP information is correct

Here’s a top tip, your Seo agency should make sure that the business does not have what are called “conflicting business citations”.

Conflicting business citations simply mean that the business has NAP details which do not match, this could be the businesses name, address and phone number on your website which do not match with your business citations. It’s important that all of the business citations and NAP details all match in order to improve the businesses local SEO.

It’s also important that the NAP information on the business’s website can be indexed, for example the businesses name, address and phone number should be able to be indexed by Googlebot this is so that Google will know the businesses name, address and phone number.

Duplicated content marketing

All duplicated content marketing should be removed from the website. It is very common especially for e-commerce websites, that’s websites that sell products to have duplicated content marketing.

For example, the web designer may copy and paste directly from the manufacturer’s website. This can cause duplication problems. Many digital marketing agencies including ours believe that if a website has duplicated content marketing then this can cause a Google Panda penalty.

If a website was to incur a Google Panda penalty then the businesses rankings will drop. This is why we recommend that all duplicated content marketing is removed from the website. You may be thinking what do we mean by duplicated content marketing?

What we mean by duplicated content marketing is text that has been copied and pasted from another website.

Google’s algorithm is very sophisticated, it will know if the text been copied from another website, and if your website has duplicated content marketing then this is likely to adversely affect the businesses SEO.

The work should therefore be unique, this means that it should not be copy and pasted, it should be high-quality content marketing that is being written specifically for your website.

 Content thin

Another common problem that many businesses have is that the website will be content thin, this means that the web designer may have only added a few lines of text per page on the website.

This is often insufficient for Google’s algorithm to know what your business offers in terms of its products or services.

This is why it’s so important that a marketing agency improves the websites content marketing, so the content thin pages are improved.

This may mean that if a product is only described with one line of text, that the marketing agency should add more lengthy product descriptions, which better describes the product to the customer.

It’s really important therefore that the content marketing on each page is of good quality, by that we mean unique, not copy and pasted, and also have a sufficient word count, whereby each page does not have just a few lines of text, instead there’s enough text in order to describe the product or service that the business offers.

Bounce rate

Have you ever heard your digital marketing agency talk about your business’s bounce rate?

If your website has a very high bounce rate then the marketing agency may recommend, they use split testing to try and reduce the businesses bounce rate.

If you do not know what “bounce rate” means, it simply means the percentage of visitors to your company’s website that have landed on your businesses website, and then decided to leave the website after visiting the first page on the website that they have visited.

For example, let’s say for example you sell men’s clothing, and you specialise in selling formal shoes, if someone was to land on your website and only visit one pair of shoes, and then leave your website this will contribute to your websites bounce rate increasing.

Therefore, often a web designer and an Seo agency will work in order to reduce the businesses bounce rate.

The aim is therefore to keep customers on your website for longer, with the intention that they make a purchase from your website.

Often a marketing agency will want to know what is causing a high bounce rate?

Could it be that the website does not offer enough information about a product?

For example, the marketing agency may therefore recommend that the product descriptions become more lengthy.

Then the web design agency and the marketing agency may work together to see if this reduces the bounce rate.

Therefore, often it is not one thing that needs to be fixed, it is many things that need to be fixed in order to improve the businesses bounce rate.

A business will therefore be looking to see if it can improve its bounce rate and also increase its sales.

Therefore, an Seo agency’s job is not just to get customers to a website, it’s to make sure that when they get to the website, they stay there for as long as possible to increase the businesses chances of improving its sales.

Therefore, a good digital marketing agency will work on improving the businesses bounce rate, that’s by reducing it, but also trying to increase the businesses sales by keeping the customer on the website for longer.

Mobile friendly

Another way a business can improve its local Seo is to improve its businesses mobile website design.

A lot of businesses will have a mobile version of their website, but some will work better than others.

Many digital marketing agencies now believe that over 50% of visitors to a website will normally come through a smartphone or a tablet.

This is why it’s so important that your marketing agency works of improving the design of your mobile version of the website.

Google’s January 2020 update- was your business affected?

Introduction

Google rolls out a lot of algorithm updates every single year- that’s to say Google is constantly working on improving it’s algorithm.

However, as many business owners have heard of the “Google Panda updates”, and the “Google Penguin updates” many businesses have now grown fearful of these updates, thinking that when Google rolls out these algorithm updates, a lot of businesses will move down the ranks, or some businesses may well be totally removed?

However, here’s the thing, Google only rewards quality

And what do we mean by this?

Well, this is simple, if a marketing agency or your business implements high-quality SEO work, which is sometimes referred to as “white hat” SEO, then your business is less likely to be hit by a penalty.

It’s the businesses that have cut corners, or the mass of agencies that have offered low-quality services, and also made promises that cant be delivered that will often get hit by a penalty.

And what do we mean by that?

Well, there’s now so many marketing agencies out there, so some will tell a new customer what they want to hear, such as “we can get you on the first page of Google within weeks”- yet this is often not possible.

Or sometimes it might be that the other respected SEO companies have stated that it may take between 6 and 12 months for the business to get onto the first page of Google- yet, one business then promises to do the same, but in under 3 months, and some businesses will not have a clue about SEO, so they go with the agency that makes false promises?

And what do we mean by false promises?

Well, if white hat work is to be delivered, and this means quality work, well, this will often take many days of work every single month, so naturally some businesses will try and cut corners, and these are often the businesses that get penalised when an algorithm update gets rolled out.

But here’s the thing, we think, and so do so many other companies, that the January 2020 update that Google rolled out wasn’t a penalty, that’s to say it wasn’t like the Google Penguin update that penalised websites that had rubbish quality backlinks.

No, we think that the new algorithm updates are now focusing more on quality, i.e the work may not be deemed as though it needs a penalty, such as the Penguin updates, but it may still be low-quality that its not very useful, so therefore it needs to be lowered in terms of where the business ranks.

And what do we mean by this?

Well, let’s say your business sells waxes, and paint repair kits to owners of classic cars, so these owners of these cars will obviously want a high-quality product.

Now, one business may have hired a marketing agency that’s not that good at what they do, so they have written content marketing, its okay, it doesn’t offer much useful information, and then the marketing company has put “classic car wax” and also “paint repair kits for classic cars” in places like the meta titles, meta descriptions, all pretty standard SEO.

However, business number two has instead opted for a well-known, and much respected seo company, rather like us.

And they have pulled out all the stops, the business has generated content marketing that could be considered better than what all the other businesses have invested in.

There’s detailed blog posts which explain how to repair paint chips, cracking of the paint and even how to remove dents from door panels on the car.

The work receives many readers to the company’s blog, the work is mentioned on classic car websites, many links are earnt.

Now, which business do you think would be less likely to be impacted by the January 2020 update?

Well, that’s really obvious, obviously the business that has invested in top quality seo will be less likely to be impacted.

So, what’s our recommendation?

Well, only invest in quality seo.

January 13th

If you were wondering when the date was when a lot of businesses reported that their rankings had changed, well, it was on January 13th, that’s according to Moz’s MozCast.

So do these algorithm changes happen a lot?

Well, yes, they do, however some are more important than others, for example there have been hundreds if not thousands of algorithm changes, however some stick out as being much more important than others, such as the Google Panda update, and the Google Hummingbird update.

Why you should use Google Search Console, formerly called “Web Master Tools”

Is your business currently using WebMaster Tools? Or Search Console as it’s now known?

Nope?

Well, why on earth not, its free and it offers some great data that you should find very useful, for example, with Google Search Console you can set a date, say yesterday and see where your website ranked, this is called “average position”.

So for example, after a major update, such as the January 2020 update, you may wish to check if your website moved up or down?

How to improve your businesses local SEO

Introduction

Okay, so your business may have had a website for quite a while, its just, well-it might not be generating any business?

So now’s the time to partner with an SEO agency, and you want that agency to help improve where your business ranks for a number of keywords but for these to be focused on one town or city.

Us SEO’s refer to this as “local SEO”– and its slightly different than if a business was to hire an agency to implement national seo.

This guide offers a comprehensive guide to how a business could improve its local SEO.

Google’s Webmaster Guidelines and why your business should follow these

Okay, so your ready to invest in SEO, so now it’s full steam ahead and you should fire-up the espresso machine and start adding work to your website?

Well, we would say no, we would pause for a second and keep this is mind, that is, the work must be high quality, it must be white hat, it must follow Google’s Webmaster Guidelines, because if the business does not, well the business may incur a penalty.

Okay, so we are starting this blog post on a bit of a downer, but we don’t want to dampen your enthusiasm for SEO, but here’s the thing, get it wrong and a business could incur a penalty.

Many businesses have incurred for example Google Penguin penalties, now this doesn’t just mean that the business will move down the ranks by just say a few places, no instead the website could move down the ranks by a few pages, or in some cases the business could be removed completely.

And that’s often because Google’s algorithm has deemed the business has having low-quality seo, so this could mean that in some cases the entire website is moved down the ranks, or it is de-indexed, meaning that it has been removed from Google.

So, here’s our best advice, read Google’s Webmaster Guidelines, or if your optimising your website for another search engine, then make sure you read their guidelines, that’s before you implement any SEO.

Must be white hat

All work must be white hat, and what do we mean by “white hat”- well it simply means that the work must be high-quality.

So many agencies say that they are “white-hat” when in matter of fact, they do not use white hat methods.

So you must make sure that all work is white hat, as if its not then again the business could incur a penalty.

Section one: Onsite SEO

Broadly speaking SEO can be split into one of two categories, they are onsite and offsite seo, however with that said, there are well over 200 ranking factors in total- and what do we mean by ranking factors?

Well, quite simply put ranking factors are what Google’s algorithm uses to work out how strong your businesses SEO is, so for example, one ranking factor would be backlinks, another could be a meta description.

However, not all ranking factors are worth the same, some are more important than others. So often when you ask a marketing agency for a quote, they will state a monthly fee, this will be used to improve your businesses organic seo, and the agency should use this time to optimise which signal will give you the best return.

And what do we mean by that?

Well, lets say you hire an agency here in Cardiff, and you sign-up to say a 12 month contract, and in month 1 the agency spots that your website does not have any meta titles, no meta descriptions, no content marketing- well it should be obvious that this needs to be fixed first, if the website has pages with just say 1 line of text per page.

Then the following month the agency may start to build backlinks, so as you can see, the agency must prioritise their time.

Now we are going to offer some suggestions as to how a business could improve its onsite SEO.

Homepage design

Your homepages design is really important in order to improve your company’s seo, for example if the homepage’s main menu is difficult to use, for example lets say on some smartphones the menu doesn’t load, well your websites going to have a high bounce rate.

So, a business should make sure that its homepage is easy to use.

Your web developer and your marketing agency should work together and use split testing, sometimes called A/B testing, that’s so the design of the website can be improved and to see if this helps to improve the company’s seo as well.

For example, the web designers may add a new main menu, if this is easier to use, then the businesses bounce rate may reduce.

Reduce your company’s bounce rate

Let’s say for example that your business sells suits, and your business has a bounce rate of say 79.8% and then you have a direct competitor, that business has a bounce rate of 22.9%- now what does this tell Google?

What does this say to Google’s artificial intelligence programme-RankBrain?

Well it simply says that the business with the lower bounce rate, may answer the question better.

And how did we come to that conclusion?

Well, that’s simple, if your business has a high bounce rate, this simply means that your website is getting visitors, but they are leaving after just visiting that one page on your website.

And if your selling suits, well its unlikely that someone is going to land on your website, see the first suit and think I will purchase that.

Often they will want to browse the different suits, and by other items such as ties and socks.

So if a business has a high bounce rate, then this could be considered as an indicator that your business is not answering the query.

Now if the business has a low-bounce rate, and people are looking at many different suits, socks, shirts and ties, well this means that the business is offering a lot of different products that the customer wants, so not only is this good for the business, but its good for the businesses SEO as well.

We say that because so many digital marketing agencies state that if a business has a low-bounce rate, then this can help to improve the businesses seo.

Meta titles and meta descriptions

Its important that each page on your website has a meta title and a meta description, its also fair to say that meta titles and meta descriptions are not one of the most important ranking factors, however this should be completed if your business is to improve its local seo.

For example, if you run a plumbing business, you should write a meta title and meta description for each page. So, lets say for example that one page is about installing a certain brand of boiler, you should include a meta title and meta description which reads something like this:

Meta title: We are a plumbing business in “” we can supply and install “” boilers

Meta description: Here at “” plumbing we can offer to supply and fit “” boilers, if you would like a quote then why not give us a ring?

Now its fair to say that the meta title and meta description has to be written to a set wordcount, too long and it may not be used. So, if you have a website such as WordPress, then why not add a plugin, some are free, then some of these plugins allow you to see if the meta title and the meta description are within the word count, that’s before your business publishes the page.

Alt text

Let’s say that your business sells many thousands of products, lets say you sell mens clothing, now you could enhance your businesses seo by adding an alt tag to each product on your website.

For example, for a blue shirt, you could simply add the alt text “blue shirt and name of brand”- now alt text is not a very important ranking factor, yet regardless of this most white hat seo agencies will still add alt text as it can improve your SEO if its carried out with other onsite seo such as adding meta title ands meta descriptions.

H1-H6

Let’s say that you sell mountain bikes, and each week your business publishes a blog post about mountain bikes.

Now if you were to publish blog posts that have a high word count, well you will want to use titles to break up the text, and a lot of businesses will mark the titles with a H1 through to a H6 tag.

If this is done is a white hat way, then this can enhance the businesses seo.

What can happen is Googlebot can crawl and index that page, and lets say the H1 through to the H6 tags are talking about electric bikes, then Googlebot and Google’s algorithm will know the page is talking about electric bikes, your website will then be deemed more relevant for electric bikes so you may get more organic visitors.

Internal backlinks

Internal backlinks are a great way of keeping shoppers on your website for longer, so for instance lets say you are adding a blog posts about candles, and your business sells thousands of different candles, then you could add internal links, such as “bees wax candles” or “candles made using natural ingredients”- these can help to keep a shopper on your website for longer.

This may help to reduce your businesses bounce rate, so for example, lets say someone lands on your website, and you sell suits, then on that page you may also offer a link to where you sell shirts, socks and belts, this may keep a shopper on your website for longer.

Many digital marketing agencies think that if you reduce a business bounce rate, that its Google’s RankBrain that will spot if shoppers are shopping on your website, and spending a while buying or looking at your company’s products.

Compare this to say another business, where 90% of shoppers are landing on the business’s website, then after just a few seconds they are leaving the website.

Now, Google’s RankBrain is likely to spot that the business is not offering what a lot of shoppers want, so many digital marketing agencies believe if a business has a high bounce rate, then the website may move down.

NAP

As this entire blog post is dedicated to offering advice on how a business can improve its local seo, then we must talk about adding NAP information to your website.

NAP simply means name of the business; the businesses address and also the businesses phone number.

This should be added to your company’s website, we always add NAP information to the footer of a website and also on the contact us page. NAP information can then be read by Googlebot, this is so Google’s algorithm will know where the business is based, and this can help to improve a business’s local seo.

However, as any good digital marketing agency will know the businesses NAP information on the company’s website, must match with the business’s citations.

Pages

One way that a business could improve its local SEO is by simply adding new pages so that every service that your company offers has its own page. What do we mean by this?

So for example, lets say that you run a construction business, now your business has a website that has a homepage an about us page, and also a contact us page.

However, what is often needed is separate dedicated pages for each service that your company offers, such as “loft conversions”, “property extensions” “new-build properties”- now once these are added to your website, and each page has its own meta title, meta description, title, content marketing then this is likely to enhance the businesses seo for each service.

More organic seo will be needed, however, if a business does not have a website where each main service or a group of products are put together it can be very hard to optimise the website for each service.

That’s to say an SEO agency may succeed in getting the business onto the first page for say “local builders”- yet they may not be able to get the business onto the first page for “loft conversion companies”- unless that business has a dedicated page that’s designed just to advertise the businesses loft conversion service.

Schema mark-up

In order to improve your businesses local seo your agency should use Schema that’s to highlight your businesses NAP information.

This will make it much easier for Googlebot to crawl and index your businesses NAP information if its marked using Schema mark-up.

Local phone number

Most agencies would agree with us when we say its important for a business to have a local phone number- and what do we mean by this?

Well, some businesses just add a mobile number to their website, yet most agencies think that if you use a local phone number, such as for Cardiff, in South Wales the local phone numbers start with 029 20 or 029 21 now most agencies think that if your looking to improve your businesses local SEO for the city of Cardiff, then having a local phone number will help.

That’s to say when adding NAP information to your website, you should use a local phone number.

Can the site be indexed?

This is a really important point, you have to make sure that your company’s website can be indexed.

And what do we mean by this?

Well, sometimes when a website is being built, the web designer will switch on, or apply code which stops the website from being indexed.

That’s to say when Googlebot indexes the website, it will notice the no-index code, and will not index that website, or that page.

There are some reasons other why a no-index tab might be left on, yet what’s for sure is if your trying to improve your local SEO, and your using SEO tools to try and see if your website’s seo is improving, you should make sure that the website can be indexed.

If it can’t be indexed, then this will mean that the website will not appear in Google’s results.

Plus, another common problem can occur if you were to ask a web developer to make an improvement to your website, such as let’s say redesigning the homepage, they may switch on the “no-index” tab, and forget it was left on, so what the business or your agency must do is to make sure that the website can be indexed.

Content marketing

Now we are onto a really important part, that is content marketing, and if you want to improve your businesses seo, then your businesses content marketing must be high-quality.

For example, some businesses thought that if they were to keep repeating the words, they want their business to rank for, then this would improve the businesses seo, however, this is not a method that works, it could result in the company incurring a penalty.

Instead, what your marketing agency should do is to add work which is going to help your customers.

So for example, lets say that you sell a certain brand of car, and there are a few dealerships in your city, and you want to rank number one for “brand of car + name of city”- now instead of adding the brand of car + name of city throughout your website, what you should do is to add useful information that customers will want to read, so for example:

·        How your garage stands out, such as offering free servicing on new cars

·        Add reviews of new cars, and highlight the advantages of ownership

·        Add an FAQ and answer questions such as how much warranty each car has

·        Then apply white hat SEO

Section two: Backlinks

If you were to ask most marketing agencies here in Cardiff what are the top three ranking factors, most are bound to say in the top three will be backlinks, that’s because they are widely considered as one of the most important ranking factors.

And this is important to know, that’s because there are over 200 ranking factors, and backlinks are thought to be one of the most important.

However, with that said, a lot of agencies and businesses make the mistake in thinking that all backlinks are worth the same, when they are not, some will help to improve your businesses seo, and some could damage your company’s seo.

The backlinks that your business needs are high-quality backlinks, which are relevant to your company.

So for example, lets say that your business sells luxury cars, if your business then obtains a backlink from say a well-known car magazine’s website, then the link will be relevant as its about cars, and the link will be from a high-quality source, that’s because the link has come from a well-known car magazine.

The links that your business should obtain, should be:

·        From a high-quality source

·        Be relevant

·        Built in a white hat way

·        Earnt and never bought

·        Your business must follow Google’s Webmaster Guidelines

What are backlinks?

Okay, so lets say that your looking to purchase a car online, and you use a website that offers cars from many different car dealers, you then see a car you like, you click the link to go to the businesses website, this means that you have followed a backlink.

So in terms of helping a shopper a backlink can be really useful, that’ instead of having to go and find that car dealers web address, instead you can just click the link, follow the backlink and land on the car dealers website.

It makes a shoppers shopping experience much easier, for example, let’s say you’ve just booked a holiday, at the end of the purchasing process you may be asked, do you want to rent a car, and are offered a special offer.

So instead of looking for a car rental company you can then click the link and rent a car from the company.

Yet from an SEO perspective, backlinks can help a business to improve its seo, that’s if high-quality websites link to your site.

As we mentioned earlier there are thought to be over 200 ranking factors, and most marketing agencies believe that backlinks are one of the most important ranking factors, with this in mind this is why many businesses want backlinks to help improve where the business ranks.

However, here at this agency we would only recommend that links are earnt, and what do we mean by that?

Well, simply put we think its much better if your website offers quality information, and then other businesses, or websites then link to your site without you asking them to, or your business paying them to.

We would most definitely not recommend spending any money on backlinks, as this is likely to lead to a link penalty.

So what do we recommend?

Well, lets say that you run a business that sells camping and outdoor equipment, you may write a blog post reviewing 10 of the best selling tents in the U.K, now this post may well be widely read on Twitter, then people you have their own blog about camping and outdoor sports such as hiking, may then link to the work.

Why are backlinks so important?

A business could spend many hundreds of hours improving its onsite seo, that’s to say adding meta titles, meta descriptions, new product descriptions and adding content marketing, yet a business may never reach the first page of Google unless it has high-quality backlinks.

That’s to say for businesses that operate in highly competitive business sectors, such as car insurance, for those businesses to get onto the first page of Google’s results, then that business will normally need high-quality backlinks.

If a business has not got high-quality backlinks, then that business can sometimes reach a point where its hard to improve its rankings any further, that’s to say an agency may get the business onto page 3, yet without backlinks the business may struggle to move any higher.

What is the Google Penguin penalty and why should this be avoided?

So many businesses, plus also some marketing agencies take the mindset that the more backlinks they have the better. When it comes to link building this is a flawed strategy, its more than likely going to result in the business incurring a link penalty, which is often referred to as a Google Penguin penalty.

And why do we say that?

Well, because when it comes to backlinks, its far better to have quality backlinks than to opt for quantity.

If an agency was to purchase backlinks, or obtain low-quality backlinks, then the business will incur a penalty. This penalty can mean that the business will drop down the ranks.

Will a business be able to recover from a penalty easily?

Often no is the short answer, some businesses and agencies think that by building low-quality links they can improve where the site ranks, and then do not realise that it can sometimes take a very long time for a business to recover from a link penalty, sometimes many months.

What do no-follow backlinks mean?

If you were to ask any good digital marketing agency what a good set of backlinks leading to a company’s website should look like, they will say that the backlink profile should have no-follow and do-follow backlinks.

Now, for those business owners that know a thing or two about building backlinks, they will know that no-follow backlinks do not pass link equity, so some agencies may deem these links as worthless.

Yet, its good practice for a business to have do-follow and no-follow backlinks, if a business was to have say 10,000 backlinks, and these were all do-follow, then it can look like the backlinks have been purchased.

As we mentioned earlier, our agency only recommends that backlinks are built in a white hat way, and the backlinks are not purchased.

The difference between no-follow and do-follow backlinks, is that do-follow backlinks can pass link-equity.

And what do we mean by earning backlinks?

We most definitely do not mean purchasing backlinks, as this is likely to cause a link penalty, what we instead mean is that a business should earn links, your business should offer advice which other businesses or websites will want to link to.

For example, lets say that your business sells furniture, and to help the environment your business only uses reclaimed wood to make all of your furniture, you may have blog posts to state where you reclaim the wood from, and how you also fix furniture to give the furniture a second lease of life.

Now many interior design blogs are likely to want to link to this website, and this is how backlinks should be earnt, that’s to say businesses and websites want to link to your website, that’s without having to pay them.

Why you shouldn’t purchase backlinks

If a business was to purchase backlinks, then this is likely to cause a link penalty.

What is Google Analytics?

If you are going to improve your businesses local SEO, then you are going to want to monitor how many organic visitors your website is getting, what the bounce rate is, and also compare how many visitors your business is getting compared with say the previous month, a great tool that can help your business to monitor how your SEO is improving is called Google Analytics.

Google Analytics is a free tool, and before you start improving your businesses seo we would recommend that your web designer links your businesses website with Google Analytics.

Section three: What is Google My Business?

So, let’s say that you wish to order a tasty pizza right here in Cardiff, and you ask Google, “ find me local take-away pizza shops”- and then you are shown a map, next to the map are a list of local businesses, these are the “Google My Business results”.

Now for your business to appear in the Google My Business results, your business must have a Google My Business account. This is easy to set-up, yet having said that so many businesses miss important details, such as adding a business description, or setting the right category for the business.

For example, the pizza take-away business may set their account as a restaurant, when really they may be better if they opted for a take-away restaurant.

How easy is it to set-up a Google My Business account?

It’s really easy to do, it doesn’t take much time, and it can help to improve your businesses seo.

If you want to improve your businesses local SEO then your business is going to need a Google My Business account.

Then once your Google My Business account has been set-up, you should make sure that the NAP information that’s mentioned on your Google My Business account matches with your websites NAP information

Add a backlink to your homepage

When setting up your Google My Business account, make sure that you add your homepage as the website that links from your Google My Business account to your website. Some businesses use their contact us page, however we would always recommend that you use your homepage.

Add your businesses opening hours

Add your businesses opening hours, and if your business decides to change its opening hours make sure that you keep your Google My Business account updated. The reason for this is if your profile says that your shop is open when it is not, then the business may obtain a negative business review, so its always worth asking the marketing agency or for yourself as the business owner to update your Google My Business account.

Add a detailed business description

Some marketing agencies, and some businesses just simply copy and paste a business description from their about us page, or from somewhere on their website, however our agency would recommend that you write a new business description, one that is not copy and pasted, and then add this to your businesses Google My Business account.

Make sure the NAP information is correct

Okay, so if you run a business here in Cardiff, South Wales, and you are looking to improve your company’s local SEO, then we would recommend that your business adds NAP information to your website.

NAP simply stands for name of your business, its address and the businesses phone number, we recommend that this is added to the footer of your website, plus on the contact us page of your website.

Once this has been added, you should make sure that it can be indexed, plus to make sure that the NAP information matches the businesses citations. So what we mean by this is if some of the businesses citations still state an old address, then these should be updated.

Then the NAP information that’s on your company’s website, that should then be added to your businesses Google My Business account. It’s worth remembering that all of the businesses citations, GMB listing and your website’s NAP details should all match, if they do not, then its worth hiring an agency to make sure that all the NAP information matches.

If a business does not have NAP information that all matches, that’s to say half of the business citations state the old company address,  then this can cause “conflicting citations”- this can mean that Google’s algorithm may not know where your business is based, so for example it may well be unsure if your based at the old company address, or the new one, this is why an agency may well update some business citations, so that they all match.

Section four: Content Marketing

This now leads on to a really important part of SEO, that is content marketing, it doesn’t matter if your trying to improve your businesses seo locally or on a global basis, most businesses will use content marketing.

However, again white hat seo methods must be used.

So many businesses make the mistake of thinking that a direct competitor has say 100 blog posts, then the business may believe that this is the gold standard that must be beat.

So that’s to say some agencies, and some company’s think its just about publishing as many blog posts that the company can-however this is a totally flawed strategy, as again it doesn’t come down to how many blog posts the company has written, its about quality.

So for example, lets say you run a plumbing business, and you notice that the business that’s ranked number 1 is publishing a blog post about plumbing every week, they have also published 200 articles in the past.

So you then hire an agency, and say write as many blog posts as you can about plumbing, will this help to improve the businesses SEO- well, we don’t think so.

What we believe is far better is to offer work is high-quality- but what do we mean by high-quality?

·        Useful to the reader

·        Written by an expert

·        Well-written with a high word count

·        Must contain facts

·        Must not be written with the sole aim of trying to improve the businesses seo

Notice our last point?

Now as a business owner reading this you might think, well why would I hire a marketing company, and spend a lot on getting work written, if its not got the sole aim of improving my businesses SEO?

Well, here’s why, if the work is well-written and useful, then it could help the business to earn backlinks.

Plus, Google will know if a shopper or a visitor to your company’s website is interested in what your business has to say.

For example, lets say that your business sells electrical goods, let’s say you specialise in selling T.V’s, now if business one has a very high bounce rate, then Google’s algorithm will know this.

If business two offers a lot of helpful and useful information about how to choose the right T.V, then that business may well be one which shoppers spend a long time on the website, they may read various guides, various product descriptions, and also use a tool which the business has created to help a shopper find the right T.V- now that business is likely to have a low bounce rate, Google Analytics will show this, plus also Google’s Algorithm will spot that the business has a low bounce rate, so it may move that business up the ranks.

So, now you can start to see that if the work is well-written, and helpful to your customers, how this content marketing can help your business and help to improve your businesses seo.

Duplicated content marketing and how this can harm your company’s rankings

Often when an e-commerce website is being designed a web designer will copy and paste product descriptions from the manufacturers website, and this is a good idea right? Well, no its not a good idea, that’s for sure it will most likely cause the website to be deemed as a low-quality website, by using low-quality seo methods right from the very start.

So a digital marketing agency that’s offering quality advice would say, do not put the website live that’s until the business or the agency has written all of the product descriptions themselves, so there’s no duplication.

Content thin

So many businesses think that when they write content marketing that they just have to write the work to meet a word count,  that is a direct competitor here in Cardiff, is writing blog posts which are around 1000 words, so that business then thinks that they must do the same.

This is likely to cause the businesses content marketing to be considered as content thin- and what do we mean by that?

Well, lets say your about to do some DIY work in your house, you want to replace some old taps which are leaking in your bathroom, so you have a look for some advice on how to swap the taps online.

Which blog post would you want to read out of these two blog posts?

Blog post one is 500 words which ramble on mentioning bathroom taps, over and over again, and just seems like an article that’s been written to keep mentioning variations of bathroom taps, such as Victorian taps, modern taps and also brass taps.

Well, that’s no use you think, that blog post offers no advice on how to fit the taps, that’s despite the blog post being titled “how to install your new bathroom taps”.

Now article number two, that’s different, it has a step by step guide on how to install your taps, it also includes diagrams on how to undo the old taps, how to turn the water off, how to fix the new taps, also how to install the flexi pipe to the copper pipe, which you find very helpful, and in no time at all you’ve fixed the taps.

Now article number one, the rather unhelpful article, well that’s likely to have a very high bounce rate, and no businesses will want to link to this work, so the business is unlikely to accumulate any high-quality backlinks.

Yet business two, the business that offered helpful advice on how to fix the taps, well that business may have a low bounce rate, plus the business may accumulate a lot of good quality backlinks, so this may help the businesses seo.

Why your business should aim to reduce its bounce rate

So often a business will hire an SEO agency and a web designer, yet the web designer is often not just used to design the website, and then the design remains the same.

Often what a lot of businesses do instead is to hire a web design agency and for them to do A/B testing on improvements that they make to the website, for example they may redesign the menu.

If the new menu succeeds in lowering the businesses bounce rate, then the business may use that main menu, the aim therefore will be to reduce the company’s bounce rate, whilst also obviously aiming to increase sales.

This is why most digital marketing company’s now work alongside web designers, this is so they can recommend ways that they can reduce a business’s bounce rate.

A lot of businesses know that if they reduce the company’s bounce rate, then Googlebot and Google’s algorithm will spot this, and this means that the seo could improve.

This is why some businesses are always improving the design of the homepage, and trying to reduce the company’s bounce rate.

AMP

Another factor that all businesses should consider is how fast their company website is, for example, if the company website is slow, and the customer has to wait too long for products to load, then this might increase the businesses bounce rate.

A lot of agencies think that a high-bounce rate can be caused by a company’s website talking too long to load.

So, some businesses here in Cardiff, may hire a web developer to build an AMP version of the website, this is so that the website is fast, AMP simply stands for accelerated mobile pages, and this means that the website will be faster.

A lot of businesses now know that because Google’s algorithm will look at the strength of over 200 ranking SEO factors, that the business must aim to have as many ranking factors as strong as possible.

So, for example, in a hyper competitive business sector, like car insurance for example, the car insurance company’s will be looking to make every ranking factor as strong as possible, this is why as soon as AMP emerged, many businesses would be making the leap to see if this improves the businesses seo.

This means that a lot of businesses will not just be concentrating on improving the important ranking signals, such as backlinks, content marketing and reducing a businesses bounce rate, the businesses that operate in highly competitive business sectors, such as retailing electrical items may be concentrating also on making their company website as fast as possible, and using AMP.

Indexation issues and “no-index” tabs

This is a really important point, as some businesses may spend a lot on improving their SEO, yet if the company website has indexation issues, then this can damage the businesses seo.

For example, lets say an indexation issue was caused by a new plugin, this may mean that the businesses blog posts could not be indexed, this could cause a massive SEO problem, that’s to say the content marketing that may have been improving the businesses seo, may well be de-indexed.

This is why the agency must make sure that Googlebot can crawl and index the website, if the work cannot be crawled, then this could cause seo problems.

Sometimes when a business is having their website improved, lets say the website is being redesigned, the web designer may switch the “no-index” tab on, yet if this is forgotten about, and not switched back on then the company’s website could be de-indexed, which could mean that the rankings drop.

How does organic SEO work?

As you might expect, it’s a question that every digital marketing agency here within Cardiff will be asked on a regular basis- that’s to say we will be asked, “how does SEO work?”.

Yet with that said- this is a question that requires a very detailed answer, so often it can’t be answered with just one or two sentences, in matter of fact, we think that this whole blog post is needed just to cover some of the basics.

So, without further ado, here’s how organic SEO works:

Question or Query

Google will want to offer you the best answer it can to any question that it get’s asked, so in order for your business to be ranked on the first page of Google, your business must offer the best answer to that query.

So, let’s break this down a little bit more, it doesn’t matter if you sell skis for a break in the Alps, or luxury cars, if you want your business to appear on the first page of Google, these are the components that your website will need to have:

·        Relevant– must be relevant to the query

·        Quality– the website must be optimised using white hat seo

·        Best ranking signals- for a business to be ranked on the first page, that website must have the strongest ranking signals, so for example if you’re the 10th strongest, you will rank 10th  for that query i.e “pizza restaurant near me”.

·        There are over 200 ranking factors that Google’s algorithm will use to take into account how strong your businesses seo is

·        If the seo is not white hat, then your business could incur an algorithmic or a manual penalty

So, whether the query is “find me a local employment solicitor” or “show me local pizza delivery business”– your business should aim to be the most relevant and best at answering that query- and how will an SEO agency do this?

Well, its not one thing, its over 200, that’s because most SEO consultants now believe that there are over 200 ranking signals, which means that there’s over 200 ways that an agency could improve your website.

Here are some of the ranking factors that most SEO agencies consider to be important:

·        High-quality backlinks

·        High-quality content marketing

·        Relevant

·        EAT- Expertise, authoritative, trustworthiness

Google’s Algorithm

Crawling and Indexing

One of the first things your marketing agency must do is to consider can your website be crawled and indexed?

And what does that mean?

Googlebot

Well, sometimes something called the “No-index” tab can be left on, or the web developer may have written code which sometimes stops GoogleBot from crawling and indexing the website, sometimes this can be for one page, or sometimes it can be for an entire website.

And what does this mean?

Well, if a “No-index” or a “do not index” code was added to a website, this means that the website will not show-up in Google’s results, so this obviously this won’t help your SEO agency that’s trying to improve your businesses seo.

So, for example you may have a website that sells men’s clothing for example, and you may hire a digital marketing company to help you sell more mens shoes.

Yet, with that said, if the mens shoes section of your website cannot be indexed, for example, there’s a no-index tab that’s left on, then this will mean that the website is unlikely to appear in Google’s results for mens shoes, so the web developer should remove the code or switch the no-index tab off.

So, one of the first checks that your seo company here in Cardiff should do, is to make sure that GoogleBot can crawl and index your website.

Then the agency may start work on improving your organic seo, and as we said at the start of this article, there are over 200+ signals, so often there’s a lot of work for your agency to be getting on with.

Design

Why is the design of your website important?

Well, let’s say that you need a new pair of running shoes, and you find a website, and it has say over 2000 pairs of running trainers for sale, yet sorting through these shoes well, that’s hard work, right?

And why is this such hard work?

Well quite simply because you cannot sort these running trainers by colour, by size or trainers that are in stock, or even by brand, and guess what happens?

The bounce rate for that website is very high.

What does “bounce rate” mean?

Well, simply put it’s the percentage of visitors that do not go on another page on your website, so for example, they see that you sell 2000 pairs of running trainers, but then notice that there’s no way of sorting these trainers, so what do they do?

Well they leave, and this means that the algorithm may spot that your business is no longer that relevant for “running trainers” and may take your business from say the 3rd spot, to say the 6th.

Onsite SEO

Your SEO agency should make sure that your businesses onsite seo is done correctly, and why do we say this?

Well, onsite seo is like what a steering wheel is to a car, its essential, so there’s no point in building loads of high-quality backlinks, that’s if your website developer or seo consultant have not got the onsite seo sorted.

So what does onsite seo mean?

Well, there’s loads of ways you can improve your company’s onsite seo, such as fixing your businesses meta titles, meta descriptions, alt tags, anchor text, H1-H6 titles, plus also improving your websites design.

Offsite SEO

Again, there are many way’s you can improve your company’s offsite seo, such as building backlinks, and also building business citations.

So, for example, you could write an article, have this published on a newspaper’s website, such as The Sunday Times, and you could obtain a backlink, and because the backlink is high-quality, this will help to improve your businesses seo.

If Google’s algorithm was to spot that your business has hundreds or thousands of really good quality backlinks, and these backlinks are relevant to your business, then this is likely to greatly improve your company’s seo.

However, the backlinks must be quality, plus they must be relevant to your company.

So for example if you run a business that sells classic cars, there’s no point in getting backlinks from your golf club, as these backlinks are not relevant, you will want backlinks from a automotive website.

Content Marketing

So, what does content marketing even mean?

Well, let’s say that you run a solicitor’s practice, and your solicitors are regularly getting asked the same questions over and over again, so your marketing agency could then write a blog post that answers these commonly asked questions.

And why would this help your business, why would you give away free advice?

Well, because your business if it improves its seo to a good standard where your business is deemed as the best business to answer questions say to do with employment law locally, your business could be ranked number one.

So, when someone is looking for an “employment solicitor in name of city” your business could be ranked number one.

If you were to ask most digital marketing agencies what is one of the most important parts of SEO, they would normally say content marketing, as its very hard to improve a business’s seo without content marketing.

Link Building

If you want to get your business onto page one of Google, then often your business will need high-quality backlinks.

And what do we mean by high-quality?

Well, lets say that your business sells performance cars, you might write a car review for a widely respected automotive magazines website, this website is a brand that’s well known, plus the information about cars, the reviews of various cars, and also the website is good quality, so this is the type of website that you should look to get a link from if you are a car dealer.

Bounce rates, time on site and improving the design of your website

It’s really important that your seo agency works on lowering your company’s bounce rate, improves time on site and also uses split testing or A/B testing to improve the design of your website.

Will duplicated content damage my businesses SEO?

Your business may have had its current website for quite a while, yet it may not have been generating much business for you?

That’s to say, you may have hired a web developer to build a really professional looking website for your business, yet its months since the website went live, and you haven’t received one single call?

So now you plan on taking action, you want to generate more sales, so you start looking for a local seo company that offers organic and local seo.

And you found one, yet one of the first tasks that they want to do is to replace all of the duplicated content marketing on your site- but you can’t understand why would they want to this?

You think that surely its better to leave it as it is, and to just focus on other areas of SEO, such as building backlinks, right?

Well, nope we would disagree with that, because duplicated content can work like a handbrake does on a car, that is if applied, well things aren’t going anywhere fast!

And duplicated content is a massive problem, that’s because often a website designer will want to hand a website back to you as soon as possible, and presumably get paid for building the website.

Yet, if they hand a website back to you, and hundreds of products have no product descriptions, well, the website is going to look rather bleak, so what do they often do?

Well, sometimes they will copy the text directly from the manufacturers website, which is not a good idea!

It’s not a good idea, simply because when Googlebot then crawls and indexes that page it will spot that the text is duplicated, and its been duplicated from the manufacturers website, and because your website was indexed after that, well, it will be your website that’s classed as the low-quality website.

This means that many businesses have duplicated content, may well be affected by the Google Panda update, yet have no idea, and this is why the business may well be lagging, that’s in terms of sales.

So, what’s the solution?

Well, if your in a rush, and haven’t got the time to read the rest of this article, in a nutshell, the work needs to be unique, it needs to be well-written and original.

What Google’s algorithm would prefer is a website where the content is unique, this means you’ve written it just for that website, plus you add information that your customers are likely to find useful, so for example, lets say you sell washing machines, do not just copy and paste directly from the manufacturer, no, instead write your own product description about the washing machines, for example, that it has 8kg washing capacity, that it spins and such and such speed, and write why you think that is a good washing machine for that price, this will help your customers, but also it should help to improve your seo, as the work is unique to your website.

So, what’s the solution?

You got it, fix that duplicated content.

What is duplicated content exactly?

Okay, so some business owners think that duplicated content just applies to the main pages of the website, such as the About Us page for example.

That’s to say that some businesses still think that it’s okay to duplicate a blog post, by taking it from another businesses website, and then placing it on their own.

Well this is not okay!

Duplication of any form of content marketing that is copied from another site, whether that just be a paragraph of text, or an entire blog post could harm your businesses seo, and its most definitely worth reading more about the Google Panda update.

Google’s algorithm is very clever, it will spot duplicated content, and your website could be moved down the ranks because of this duplicated SEO work.

So in a nutshell, do not add duplicated content marketing to your website.

Also, some businesses will copy and paste information that the manufacturer has written onto their blog post section of there website.

So for example, lets say that you sell a brand of lawn mower, and you’re the only distributor for that brand of lawn mower, and the company has just launched a new product range, for example a range of rechargeable battery lawn mowers, so you think that your helping your customers by copying and pasting that article, and placing it on your website, right?

Wrong!

Even a duplicated blog post could damage your businesses seo, Google’s algorithm will spot that its duplicated work, that its low-quality, and it could mean your website moves down the SERP’s.

But why does Google’s algorithm do this?

So, let’s say you wanted to purchase a new electric car, but you weren’t sure how electric cars work, so you wanted to know for example how far the car could drive before it needed recharging.

So, you ask Google “which electric cars have the best range before the car needs recharging”.

Now because Google is so good at answering questions, well you expect a quality answer. But what if this wasn’t the case, and let’s say you received a list of 10 websites instead that all said the same thing! You would be annoyed, right?

That’s why Google employs a clever algorithm that rewards businesses that offer quality content marketing that’s original.

That’s to say if its copied, well, that page is not likely to rank high on Google at all, and this is so that you the user obtain a quality answer.

So instead of having say 10 websites that all supply the same answer about electric cars, you know that when you use Google you will obtain a quality answer from many different businesses.

Plagiarism checker

Google therefore has built into it’s algorithm the ability to check for duplication, but many businesses also use plagiarism checkers like CopyScape.

So let’s say you hire an seo company in Cardiff, yet after a few months you notice your place on Google is not improving. You were on the second page of the SERP’s now you are on page 5, and the SEO agency is saying don’t worry, this is normal, but is it?

Well, we would most definitely ask why your website is moving backwards, and do make sure as one of the first checks that the work being added is not duplicated, then hire another agency to make sure that the backlinks are being built correctly, and that the work is being done to a high standard.

Sound a bit excessive hiring another seo agency to check on the current agencies standard of work?

Well, we don’t think so, because if your business incurs an algorithmic or a manual penalty, such as a Google Penguin, or a Google Panda penalty, well, your website could be removed from Google altogether.

So its most definitely worth making sure the work is done to a high-standard, you can also use plagiarism checkers, that’s to see if the content marketing is duplicated or not.

Does your business require help with its content marketing?

If you run a business here within Cardiff, and you want to invest in white hat SEO, then why not give us a ring?

At the very least the text should not be duplicated, but that’s like saying you shouldn’t add diesel fuel to a petrol car- it should be obvious to the seo agency.

So once that’s been substantiated, that the work is not duplicated, the marketing agency should concentrate on writing high-quality content marketing, plus the agency should make sure that all of the following are added to every blog post:

·        Title

·        Meta title

·        Meta description

·        Alt text

·        Internal backlinks

·        External backlinks

·        Over 1000-word count

·        H1-H6

Plus the work must be high-quality, for example, lets say you ask a really simply question, such as “where can I buy a wooden shed”– well there might be 100 different places in the city of Cardiff that you can purchase a wooden shed from, that’s why for your business to get onto the first page the website must be really good.

Your business must have top quality seo, this means that all  the duplicated text replaced with high-quality text.

Your business must also adhere to white hat seo methods, plus the onsite seo must also be completed to a high-standard.

How do you ensure your content marketing is good quality?

Introduction

No matter what type of business you run, whether you run a construction business, or a car insurance company, a lot of businesses these days invest in white hat seo.

An important part of the SEO process is to write content marketing, yet with that said, a lot of businesses here in Cardiff will not know what content marketing is, or it how it could help their business.

What does content marketing mean?

Often content marketing is a written blog post, or page like this blog post. However, what determines if the content marketing will help your business or not, is if the work is of high-quality.

And what determines if the work is high-quality? Well, often it’s the reader, as they will dictate if your business has a high bounce rate for example.

Yet it’s also the algorithms, so for instance, let’s say you run a business that specialises in selling classic cars.

Now, your classic car business wants to be on the first page of Google, that’s when someone is looking for a certain make and model of classic car, to help you to do this, you hire an SEO company.

Now if the work is good quality, your business is likely to draw in more readers, if the business draws in more readers, it may obtain more links, and if the SEO improves your website will rank higher.

How do you ensure your content marketing is good quality?

We ensure that our work is good quality in following ways:

White hat

All of our SEO work is always white hat.

Expert

We go to great lengths to understand your business.

Backlinks

If the content marketing is of high-quality, then this increases the chances of your business obtaining backlinks.

For example, lets say that you run a bike shop, and your business starts to sell electric bikes, well if you write blog posts which help people to understand which electric bike would be best for them, then if the work is useful, then its likely to obtain backlinks.

Not written to try and improve a business’s SEO

Here’s the fact that some SEO companies do forget, that is that the agency should just focus on improving the businesses SEO when writing content marketing, that’s because if the work is just focused on SEO, then its likely to not be deemed useful to a reader.

For example, let’s say you are a manufacturer of washing machines, now if you write a 500 word article, yet you mention “washing machine” over and over again, in way that does not read naturally, well this could end up damaging your businesses SEO.

The reason is your readers are likely to leave the website, as the work does not offer useful information.

However on the other hand, if you write an article that offers advice on what all the different features of the washing machine are, and what benefits the features of washing machine can offer, well, this is much more likely going to improve your SEO.

What is Google My Business ?

Introduction

It’s fair to say as business owners there’s always a constant flurry of requests for a business to sign their business up for something or other.

Whether that be a new business directory, which advertises business in your area, or perhaps is a new social media platform that somebody is urging your business to use.

But as a business owner, well there simply isn’t enough hours in the day to listen to all these requests.

Yet, we think there’s one account that’s most definitely worth signing up for, and that is a Google My Business account.

Not only is a Google My Business account super useful if your looking to improve your businesses seo, but it is also very easy to set up.

So here we go, here’s how a Google My Business account could help your business.

So, why should my business sign-up?

No matter if you run a national business, that has many shops on the high street, or you are an independent business, that just has one shop, quite simply put its well worth obtaining a Google My Business account.

The main reason is that your business can be displayed in the Google My Business listings. So what this means is say your looking for a local dentist, well when you search for “local dentist + city or town” your business stands a chance of being displayed.

However, notice how we use the word chance, well that’s because its not just a matter of obtaining a Google My Business account and your business will suddenly appear, no, instead quite often your listing and your website will need to have SEO applied to both.

The reason for this is the level of competition that your businesses faces, so for example there may well be 100 dentists in one city, and most will want to appear for terms such as “dentists that offer teeth whitening near me”.

What does NAP mean?

NAP simply means your businesses name, address and phone number. Your seo company may use this information to help optimise your website.

So, for example, business citations may well be built and your seo agency should ensure that the NAP information on your companies’ website then matches exactly with your businesses citations and also your Google My Business account.

Okay, so how does your SEO agency optimise a Google My Business listing?

Quite often obtaining a Google My Business listing is just one part of the local seo process, yet with that said it’s a very important one.

Yet your marketing company may also be writing content marketing, building high quality backlinks and working on your companies onsite seo, so as you can see obtaining a Google My Business listing is just one area that your seo company may well be working on.

Here’s how we optimise a Google My Business listing:

We add the companies opening hours

Its important to list your opening hours correctly, as if someone travels to your business premises and its closed when your Google My Business listing is stated as being open, well this can be annoying.

If do you have a local telephone number then make sure you use it

Sometimes some businesses just have to use a mobile number, for example a sole trader painter and decorator may rely on his or her mobile to secure work.

So if the person is working away from an office or where their landline is, well often they will have no choice but to use a mobile number.

Yet if you do have a local landline number then we would recommend using this instead. The main reason is it reinforces that your business is actually located in that city or town.

Positive first impression

Sometimes some businesses sling their Google My Business listing together in an almighty rush.

However we always advise businesses never to rush creating their Google My Business listing. The reason that this process shouldn’t be rushed is because it can be so useful to your business.

So do go the extra mile to add as much detail as possible, for example if you employ staff why not have as your main photo a picture of you and your team?

Address

Make sure that you add your businesses address, whilst also making sure that you keep your Google My Business account up to date.

For example, quite often a business will change address, and in all that hustle and bustle well sometimes updating your companies Google My Business account will get forgotten about.

Yet if your website states one address, which is your businesses new address, and then your Google My Business account states a different address, well this can cause something us SEO’s refer to as being a “conflicting citation”- and this means that your business stands a much lesser chance of being displayed in the Google My Business results.

So, it’s really important that your business makes sure that your companies NAP information is kept up to date, whether that’s on Google My Business, business citations or actually on your companies website.

Should my business be obtaining customer reviews?

Yes, we would most definitely recommend to any business that obtaining genuine business reviews is important.

Now business reviews could be left anywhere, that’s on a social media website, through to Google My Business.

However, we always recommend to our clients that they should obtain customer reviews on Google My Business.

Now, you may have noticed that earlier we mentioned the word “genuine” and we done this with good reason and that’s because so many businesses do fake their own reviews.

However, this will often result in a business standing a much lesser chance of being displayed in the Google My Business results.

So we would never recommend obtaining fake business reviews, instead only obtain genuine reviews from your customers.

How to evaluate your competitor’s SEO

Introduction

So many businesses think that when investing in organic SEO, all they need to do is pay a monthly fee, and then the business will start to appear for certain keywords.

So, for example, let’s say you run a dental practice, and you want to promote teeth straightening here in the U.K, so you partner with a white hat seo agency.

That agency can implement work that’s in order to improve where your business ranks organically.

Yet, this means that the seo company will need to work on strengthening your businesses “ranking signals”.

This means in order to beat your competitors, your business must have stronger ranking signals. Plus, your website must be deemed the most relevant for which keywords you wish to improve the businesses organic ranking for.

So for instance, lets say you are currently positioned 22nd for the term “teeth straightening” here in the U.K, well you have to Improve your website to the point that it is deemed better that the other 21 businesses before you.

So, as you can see investing in organic SEO doesn’t mean just investing money, and few clicks and suddenly your business is ranked higher.

No, instead the major search engines, such as Google are thought to take into account over 200 ranking signals.

And this means in order to beat your competitors, your website has to have stronger SEO. So how do you evaluate how good your competitors seo is? Well here’s how we do it.

Onsite SEO

Looking at your competitors onsite seo is where we start. Now a skilled SEO consultant is likely to consider many things when evaluating why a competitor is deemed to have stronger SEO, yet here’s some of the main things they are likely to consider.

Structure

Has your competitors websites got a logical layout? And is the website structured in such a way that it makes implementing SEO easier?

For example, let’s say you run a solicitor’s practice, and you offer many different services, such as offering employment law advice, family law advice and also advice over business disputes.

Now, if all of these services were described on one page on the website, well it would make it very hard to optimise the website for all these separate terms.

So, what a digital marketing agency may recommend is that the various services have their own page.

Then your SEO company is likely to evaluate your competitors, for example how have they split their services. Do they offer the same services as your business, if so does every service has its own page?

Have your competitors optimised their websites for services that your business offers, yet they have done this in a better way.

For example, some our competitors may just state they offer organic seo, yet other businesses may mention they offer link building, content marketing and local seo, so this may be deemed a better way of optimising the website, rather than grouping all the different services just under the banner of “organic seo”.

Internal links

Internal links can be really useful to a visitor on your website. For example, you may well be a divorce solicitor, and you may have just published a blog post on your website, where in that blog post you’ve mentioned that you offer a mediation service, now a reader may not know what “mediation” means, so you could use an internal link within your website, so that the reader can then click the link, and then find out what mediation means.

Internal links if implemented in a white hat way, can help your SEO.

So do look at how your competitors are using internal links, you may find that the main menu may have a list of pages that describe the businesses services, yet then internal links are used to take a reader to other pages, which describe that service in more detail.

So, for example, we may on our website that we offer “Local SEO”, yet on that page we may use an internal link to a page that’s dedicated to explaining how we build backlinks.

Therefore, internal links can be used to help visitors to your website to find out more about what your company can offer.

NAP

How have your competitors mentioned their NAP details on their websites? Have they mentioned the NAP information in the footer of the website, or has it been written in a large font on the contact us page?

White hat?

Are your competitors only using white hat seo methods? We would strongly recommend that your business only implements white hat seo.

If you do not know what white hat seo means, or whether your competitors are implementing white hat seo, then we would recommend that you work with a white hat seo agency.

Blog posts?

Are your competitors adding blog posts to their website on a regular basis? Are the blog posts high-quality, meaning that a lot of effort has been made to offer quality information, that will be really useful to the reader.

For example, let’s say the business in question is an electrical retailer, and they sell electric ovens.

Now somebody who is buying an electric oven may not know all there is know about electric ovens.

So, a blog post that explains what all the different options are, well this is likely to be deemed useful.

If its useful more people are likely to read it, which means that it can help to improve the businesses SEO.

Plus, if the work is really good, well other websites may link to the work. For example, a interior designs website may be talking about luxurious kitchens, and therefore may mention the website has a good place to find out all the different features that an electric oven can have.

Offsite SEO

Backlinks

Your seo agency should evaluate your competitors backlinks.

7 ways you can improve your local SEO

Introduction

When most businesses are researching different ways that they can improve their businesses local SEO, well, they often find that there are hundreds of different SEO methods that can be used.

And this can be overwhelming for any business owner, as often they will not know where to start.

Well, we instead like to make things really simple, so we thought we would compile a list of what we think are some of the best ways that you can improve your businesses local seo.

However, before we do start, its important to know this, you should only ever implement white hat seo. If you do not know what white hat SEO means, then we strongly recommend talking to a digital marketing agency that does.

#1 Backlinks

Often for a business to reach the top of Google the website will need quality backlinks. But not just any type of backlinks, but backlinks which are of a good quality. Also, the backlinks must be relevant to your business.

#2 Onsite SEO

Your chosen SEO agency should be improving your businesses onsite seo as well, and there are many ways to do this:

·        Meta titles and meta descriptions

·        Improving product or service descriptions

·        Adding alt tags

·        Making sure the NAP information is correct

·        Adding Schema

·        Adding good quality blog posts

·        Making sure the mobile version of the website works correctly

#3 Business citations

Business citations are simply mentions of your company’s NAP information. For those that do not know what NAP stands for, it simply means your businesses name, address and phone number.

Your business citations should have the same NAP details that are mentioned on your company’s website, and also be the same as what’s on stated on your businesses Google My Business account.

#4 Business reviews

Your business should obtain reviews from your customers, as this can help to improve your businesses local seo.

However, with that said your business shouldn’t obtain fake business reviews.

Fake business reviews can be spotted by Google’s algorithm, which means that your business will most likely not then be shown in the Google My Business results.

#5 Social media

Social media can be a great way of keeping people updated on how your business is doing.

Also, many digital marketing agencies including us use social media to tell people when we’ve written a new blog post.

This can get more people to read your companies blog posts, and sometimes some readers may wish to link to the work from their own business as well. This means that your business can sometimes also obtain backlinks.

However, the backlinks must be from quality websites, and also be relevant to your business if they are to help your businesses seo.

#6 Add blog posts

Your business, or your SEO company should be writing high-quality blog posts for your business.

Your business should be adding blog posts which answer questions that your customers regularly ask.

So, for example, let’s say you run a solicitor’s practice, and you specialise in offering advice to couples who are going through a divorce.

During the divorce process often people will have questions that are frequently asked, such as what will happen to the family home after they divorce.

This means if you are able to offer advice via your blog posts that answer questions that many people ask, then this means that more people are likely to find your business.

This means that your business may well obtain more backlinks as well, as other websites link to your business.

This could help to improve your businesses SEO, so as you can see adding blog posts to your website is important.

#7 Make sure that your website is easy to use

This may sound very basic consideration, yet you should make sure your companies’ website is easy to use.

Sometimes some companies place the websites appearance over SEO, for example the business may not work with an seo consultant whilst the website is being designed, and this can often lead to seo weaknesses with the website.

So in a nutshell, if your having a new website built, well we strongly recommend that your web design agency works with a white hat seo company.

What does white hat SEO mean?

Introduction

Each and every week countless SEO agencies publish articles about something that’s changed to white hat seo.

Whether that’s an update that’s occurred to Google’s algorithm, or that an seo business has a theory on how to get businesses onto the first page of Google.

However, we think that business owners often don’t want to have to piece together a million articles to try and get a sense of how seo is best implemented.

Instead we think businesses want a no-nonsense article that explains some of the factors that agencies use to get a website onto the first page of Google.

So, we thought you know what, let’s write a rather longwinded, yet informative article about what we think are some of the most important factors your business should consider when implementing white hat seo.

Let’s start right at the start, how good is your businesses website?

By how good is your businesses website, we don’t mean how much money have you spent on it, as that’s rather irrelevant.

We mean how good is it at doing its job? That’s because you can have spent a small fortune on your websites design, but if it has a sky-high bounce rate and doesn’t convert, well its about as much use as a chocolate tea-point.

From our experience some of the best websites we have ever seen are very simple.

So, here’s some the questions we ask ourselves when we are presented with a new website to work on:

·        Does each main service that the business offers, or group of products have its own page?

·        Does the website load quickly, or is it slow to load?

·        Is it content thin? Do the descriptions for each product lack detail?

·        Is the website easy to use, so which ever page I land on, can I quickly get to where I want to be?

·        Are there calls to action?

·        Does the website answer frequently asked questions?

·        Does the company publish blog posts?

And there’s so much more our seo consultants would consider, yet the questions above are ones your seo company should also consider.

What’s the user experience like?

So, let’s say your website sells luxury chocolates, so how does the website offer its products?

Does the website look cluttered? Or is there more of a minimalistic style? If there is a minimalistic style does the website offer enough information to allow someone to make a buying decision?

Does the business make is easy to buy products? And is there an FAQ section so that customers can find answers without having to e-mail the business?

These are just some of the considerations that our seo would be asking our clients.

Bounce rates

The bounce rate for a website is quite simply the percentage of visitors that have landed on your companies website, yet then decided to leave more or less straightaway.

So we always give this example to our clients, its kind of like launching a restaurant, and then people sticking their heads around the door, yet then leaving without purchasing anything.

This is where your marketing agency must work out what’s causing the high bounce rate, and is there anything you can do to reduce it?

Google’s RankBrain

Many digital marketing agencies think that RankBrain is being used by Google to monitor how engaged a visitor is with a website.

For example, does someone land on your chocolate website, and do they spend a great deal of time to look at what your business has to offer?

Or do they bounce straight off the website? Many believe that RankBrain is an AI programme that’s used by Google to work out which websites best answer a question.

Have you set-up your Google Analytics and Google Search Console accounts?

So many businesses embark on the SEO process, yet they do not set-up a Google Analytics or a Google Search Console account.

It takes mere minutes to set up a Google Analytics account, and its definitely worth doing as you will be able to obtain important data to help your businesses seo efforts.

For example, what’s the bounce rate for each page? How many visitors have the website obtained last week, last month or last year?

Google’s algorithm is always changing so make sure you keep up to date

Whoever is implementing your seo for your business, whether its yourself, a team of marketing experts or an seo agency, their knowledge must be up to date.

That’s to say an seo company may have been regarded as one of the best a few years back, yet if they do not keep their knowledge up to date, on how Google’s algorithm is changing, well its easy to implementing ineffective seo.

All seo efforts must always be white hat, as otherwise if white hat seo isn’t  implemented then your website may incur a penalty.

Put yourself in your customers shoes!

So much content marketing is produced just to try and improve where a business is ranked.

Now, you may say well that’s the whole point of content marketing, right?

Well wrong, as many leading seo companies now think that unless the work answers the question that it sets out to answer, and offers really useful information, well its not going to help your businesses seo.

So now instead of concentrating on seo factors, you must think how can we answer this question better than any of our competitors?

What are keywords?

Before your digital marketing agency embarks on implementing any seo, they should have a marketing strategy.

And a central part of that strategy should be which keywords your business is targeting.

For example, you may run an accountancy practice, well which sorts of customers do you want to attract?

Are they business owners that wish to obtain help with their self-assessment, or do you want to attract work from large businesses, that which for you to help them with an audit?

This needs to be thought out from the start, then once you know which customers you want to attract to the business, your seo agency should do keyword research.

This is obtaining an understanding of what people are typing or using voice search for in order to find businesses within that business sector.

So for example, if you want to attract businesses that need help with their VAT returns, people may well be searching “accountancy practices that specialise in VAT returns” – therefore this is the phrase that your seo company should be optimising your website for, in a white hat way.

All work must be high-quality (white hat)

Whatever seo work you are implementing or your seo company is working on, the work must be white hat.

Onsite SEO

Sometimes when a business is first investing in seo, sometimes that business will think that all that is needed to get the business onto first page of Google will be to optimise a few ranking signals.

However, there are in matter of fact over 200 ranking signals. Now for those that do not know what ranking signals are, these are simply the signals that are calculated by Google’s algorithm in order to work out how important that website is.

So, the websites that are ranked on the first page of Google, they will be the businesses that have the strongest ranking signals, yet also that website that is deemed the most relevant for that query.

How many pages does your website need?

Sometimes a business will have a website built, yet each main service will not have its own page.

So for example, lets think about a dental practices website, often they will offer many different services, such as teeth whitening and teeth straightening services.

Yet, if these services are all described on just one page, well it makes it a lot harder to implement the seo.

Often what an seo will advise, is that each main service that the business offers should have its own page.

This makes it much easier to optimise each page for different keywords. So for example, the seo company can optimise the “teeth whitening” page through using white hat methods, such as optimising:

·        Meta title and meta descriptions

·        Alt tag

·        Service description

·        Internal links

Product and service descriptions

This bit is really important, often when a website is designed, a website designer may copy product descriptions from another website, such the product manufactures website.

Yet, if your website has duplicated content, then this can mean your website incurs a penalty.

All work therefore should be unique to your website. If you do copy any work, then your website may incur a penalty, such as the Google Penguin update, which would most likely mean your website will drop in terms of where it ranks.

Meta titles and meta descriptions

Often when you get your new website back from the website designers it won’t have had the meta titles and meta descriptions added.

Yet, this is such a simple task to do, your seo should be able to add these to each page in a short amount of time.

With that said, meta titles and meta descriptions are really important. For those that do not know what this means, the meta titles and meta descriptions are simply a few lines of text that is used to describe that page.

This description then appears in the serps. So your seo agency should be aiming to improve your businesses CTR.

CTR stands for click through rate. So lets say your business sells mountain bikes, and you stock a particular brand of mountain bike that’s really popular, well you may mention that brand within the meta title or meta description.

Now, someone who’s looking through all the various businesses that offer mountain bikes, quite simply has loads of businesses to choose from.

So that’s to say even if your business gets onto the first page of Google, there will still be loads of other businesses. This means their will be businesses that have organic business listings and also PPC adds.

So its really important that that your business stands out, one way to do this is to write your meta title and meta description so that there’s a higher chance of people selecting your business.

This means if your business has a sale on, or you know a brand of bike that sells well, you may wish to mention this in the meta title and meta description.

What are alt tags?

Alt tags are simply a description that is added to pictures on your website. So let’s say for example you retail winter jackets, well you should add a description to each picture of each jacket.

So, for example, you may write the alt tag such as “winter jacket, olive green, large parker jacket”.

This can therefore help improve the onsite seo for that page, as its another clear message that this page sells olive green parker jackets.

Duplicate content

Here’s another top tip, do not use any duplicated content on your website. So, for example, let’s say you have a website designed, and your website designers have wanted to make the website look complete.

So instead of writing each product description, they may have copied and pasted the product description from the manufacturer’s website.

This will cause a duplication issue, which means your website could incur a penalty. A penalty, such as the Google Panda penalty can mean that your website drops in terms of where it ranks.

So just to be really clear, do not use any duplicated work on your website, and only use white hat methods.

So, what exactly is Schema?

Schema is a type of structured language, its used by seo agencies to mark-up important information on your website, such as the businesses NAP information.

So, for example, lets say you run a solicitors practice, well there’s most likely going to be loads of information on a solicitors website. So, using Schema allows the parts that are really important, like the NAP information to stand out, as this will be marked up using Schema.

Blog posts

Adding good quality blog posts to your website is a really important part of SEO. Yet, so many businesses and even seo companies get this part wrong.

That’s to say quite often businesses focus too much on trying to improve where the business ranks.

And now you might say, well that’s the whole point of SEO right? Well, not really no, as you should always aim to offer a good service to your customers first.

The reason for this is if you don’t put your customers first, the seo will most likely fail. It will fail because the bounce rate will increase, the level of conversions is likely to decrease.

So let’s say for example you retail bathroom products, such as claw legged Victorian baths, now if your business was to offer really good advice on how to replicate a Victorian looking bathroom, well then the business is likely to sell more items.

Yet, if the seo business that you’ve appointed uses rubbish seo methods, then this can mean that your businesses rankings go down.

A common mistake that so many businesses make is to write the keywords they want the business to rank for too much within the businesses content marketing.

So, for example, the seo company may keep writing “claw legged Victorian baths” too much, and Google’s algorithms will detect this.

The work could be then deemed as spam, and this could mean that the website incurs a penalty.

Does your business have a mobile version of your website?

So many businesses have a mobile version of their website, so they think that is all that is needed to obtain more sales when people are looking at the website on smartphones and tablets.

Yet, your digital marketing agency should work with your business to optimise the mobile version of your website. That’s to say is the mobile version easy to use? Are the product descriptions easy to read? Is the website well designed? Or, does the mobile version of your businesses website have a high bounce rate?

Your SEO agency should be asking these questions.

What is content marketing?

An essential component when it comes to implementing a successful seo marketing strategy is to create content marketing.

Now content marketing can be used onsite, which often comes in the form of written work, or it can be used offsite.

The main purpose of using content marketing offsite would be to obtain a backlink, which is then directed at a page on your website.

However, here’s the thing the quality of content marketing can vary massively. For example, a digital marketing agency can create work which can help to improve where your business ranks, help to bring more visitors to your website, and sometimes even help to obtain more backlinks.

Yet, with that said, some seo agencies and business get their content marketing wrong, this is often due to them mentioning the same keywords too much.

So for example lets say you run a car dealership, well if your seo company was tasked with helping to sell a certain brand of car they would often use content marketing.

However, if say to the seo business, we want to appear on the first page of Google for “brand of car + the name of the city”.

Well, the marketing agency may then write “brand of car + the name of the city” too much into the content marketing. This is sometimes referred to as keyword stuffing, and this could mean that the business incurs a penalty.

So, as you can see, its really important that which ever marketing agency you choose, they must use white hat methods.

What does offsite SEO mean?

What exactly are backlinks?

Earlier on within this article we mentioned that there are over 200 ranking signals, and these signals are used to calculate how important your website is.

So for example, lets say you looking to purchase a new set of drums, so you may search for the brand of drums, and the model you wish to purchase.

Now there may well be thousands of companies up and down the country that sell those set of drums. So Google has to work out which business is best placed to answer your question.

And the business that has the strongest ranking signals will rank at the top. So, as you can see its really important that a business works on strengthening their ranking signals.

Now, what many seo companies believe is the most important type of ranking signal is backlinks.

So, often the businesses that rank at the top of Google will have the strongest backlinks.

If you don’t know what an external backlink is, well its quite simply a link from another website that is directed at your business’s website.

These links pay well be directed at a page on your website, or the homepage.

If the backlinks are of good quality, and are relevant to your business, then they can pass link juice.

That is if the backlink is do-follow. The more high-quality backlinks your website has the better.

So in a nutshell often the businesses that rank at the top of Google have really good quality backlinks.

Yet, the businesses that have low quality backlinks, well these are likely to incur a penalty.

Anchor text

Anchor text is quite simply the text that you click on in order to follow a link. So let’s say you are on a dentists website, and you are interested in getting your teeth whiter. So you see an article about teeth whitening, and click a link that states “click here to book an appointment”.

The line of text that states “click here to book an appointment” is the anchor text.

How to improve your on-site SEO in 7 super easy steps

Introduction

When some businesses implement SEO themselves, it can sometimes feel as though there’s mountains of work that need to be completed.

And sometimes this can be true, especially if the website is brand new. Yet, having said that we find breaking the tasks down into three categories often helps. Those categories are on-site seo, off-site seo and social media.

Within this article we are going to explain seven ways that you can improve your businesses on-site SEO.

Now of course there’s plenty of more ways you can improve your businesses onsite that just these seven methods. Yet, the seven areas we have mentioned, these are very easy to do, so we think there a good place to start.

#1 Think about whether each service or product should have its own page?

Let’s say you run a plumbing business, and you’ve opted for a really basic website, let’s say it consists of just a homepage, an about us page and also a contact us page.

Now, on the about us page you may state that you offer boiler repair, emergency call outs and also bathroom installations, so that be enough detail, right?

Well, if you want to optimise each separate service that your business offers, its going to be a lot harder if they are all grouped together on just one page.

That’s to say you should think about whether each service should have its own page, that way each page should have its own:

·        Meta title and meta description

·        Alt tag

·        Product or service description

·        URL extension

·        H1 to H6 tags

·        Calls to action

·        Schema mark-up

·        FAQ

So, as you can see, sometimes its better for a business to separate its services or products onto a distinctly different page.

#2 Internal backlinks

Now, we all know that backlinks are important to SEO, right? Well, that’s kind of like a no-brainer of a question, yet what doesn’t get talked about all too often is the use of internal links on a website.

So, for example, say you’re on an SEO companies website, like ours, and you read a term that you’re not too familiar with, let’s say its Schema mark-up, well the agency may use an internal link on the term “Schema mark-up” to take you a page dedicated to explaining what Schema means.

This is super useful to anyone which is reading the blog post, because you guessed it, they can simply click the link and find out what that word means. This means its good for the reader, but if implemented in a white hat way, well, it can also help your businesses SEO as well, so kind of a win-win!

#3 Page speed

Let’s face it, most of us have hectic lifestyles these days. That’s to say people just haven’t got the time to wait around anymore!

So, if your company website takes an eternity to load, well its not going to do your business SEO any good.

In a world with Google’s AMP and the need for company websites to load quickly, your business really has to think of ways to get the company website loading much faster.

#4 Calls to action

Whether your looking for a divorce solicitor, or a dentist to help make your teeth whiter, it’s fair to say that most websites offer a lot of information.

Some websites may well be more to the point than others, yet some may just waffle on and on.

So, what can happen is that some readers may just get absorbed by all that information, and what is really needed is a sort of prompt, encouraging that person to buy something or say sign-up to a company newsletter.

This means a call to action button may well be useful, a call to action button is simply a prompt, that can be a really effective marketing tool.

#5 Don’t forget the finishing touches

Meta titles, meta descriptions and alt tags take mere seconds to implement, so make sure your website has them.

The meta title and meta description are simply the snippet of text that you see in the SERP’s when your looking for a website. So, you need to come up with something snappy, something that will encourage a person to click the add, and visit your website.

Then alt tags are really important as well, for example you may retail dog collars, now you could just label each picture of the dog collars 1, 2 and 3. Yet, if you done this, we think you would be missing a trick.

That’s because someone may well be searching for a red dog collar, with diamonds for example. So, if you assign an accurate description to the alt tag, well you guessed it your improving your websites seo.

#6 Update your website

It’s important to update your website, that’s to say add a new blog post every now and then.

Here’s our golden rules when adding blog posts to your website:

·        Quality must come first, so spend a great deal of time writing a really interesting blog post

·        Make sure its relevant to your business, or your business sector

·        Do not copy the content from another website

·        Try and answer questions that your customers commonly ask

·        Make sure that all work is white hat

·        If in doubt do consult a white hat agency

#7 Make sure the websites NAP details are visible

This is a really important one, especially if your implementing local SEO, that’s to have the businesses NAP details on the website.

NAP stands for name of the business, its address and phone number.

What were the Google Penguin updates for?

Introduction

Back in April 2012 Google announced its latest update, the Google Penguin update. In a nutshell it was an update that would clampdown on websites that used low quality links.

As here’s the thing, SEO can fall squarely into one of two boxes, that’s the we want to do things properly group (white hat) and we want to cut corners group (black hat).

Now the group that likes to cut corners, well they are constantly scheming to come up with new ideas of how to fool Google’s algorithm. That’s to more or less try and fool Google into thinking the website is more important than it is.

However, trying to fool Google’s algorithm is not a wise move, Google is very good at detecting low quality seo and spam.

So if you do try and fool Google’s algorithm, well its more than likely going to result in your website dropping in terms of where it once ranked, or alternatively it may disappear from the SERP’s altogether.

This means Google has got very good at detecting businesses, or indeed SEO companies that try and circumvent the rules. And one such filter is called the “Google Penguin” updates.

Hmm, so how exactly does Google’s algorithm know which links are low quality?

If you run a business, or you own a digital marketing agency your focus should just be on earning good quality backlinks. And these backlinks should satisfy the following criteria:

·        Good quality

·        Relevant to your business

·        The anchor text should be optimised in a white hat way

·        You shouldn’t obtain too many links from just one source

·        You want as many good quality links that you can obtain, that are relevant and from as many different websites (that are good quality!)

So let’s say you retail sports cars, and you want your website to be more visible, so more people from around the world see your website, and the latest cars you have for sale.

Now, this is where you should obtain backlinks from other websites that are to do with cars. So a good example is a respected motoring magazine may have a website, they may publish an article about a classic car you have, and therefore you may be able to obtain a backlink.

This will be all well and good for your seo. What wouldn’t be a good idea is try and build a load of low quality backlinks, as this will result in your website incurring a penalty.

So, when some SEO businesses offer super cheap SEO, is this because their building rubbish links?

Well, regardless of what the marketing agency charges, it all does boil down to whether the work is of a good quality.

That’s to say even some of the swanky upmarket agencies may implement low quality seo. Yet, as a general rule, we would say if the agency is quoting you really cheap prices, well you do have to ask yourself, how on earth are they doing that?

Because here’s the thing, to implement really good quality seo, well this takes an awful lot of time and effort. So, if a business is offering their services for peanuts, they could be using automated methods.

Automated link building normally spells disaster. As links need to be built in a white hat way, so you cant hand this responsibility over to some code to start building backlinks for you, this will result in a link penalty.

So, in a nutshell, whether the agency charges a million pounds a month, or two hundred pounds a month to do your seo, you still have to check that the work is white hat.

A word to the wise, don’t use black hat seo methods!

Sure, organic seo is often a slow process, there’s no getting away from that fact. However the impatient among us may try and speed the process up with black hat seo, however this is never a good idea!

Black hat seo will result in your website incurring a penalty. A penalty can mean that your website drops, but also that it can take a very long time to recover from such a penalty.

Okay, it’s too late for all that, my website’s been hit by the Google Penguin penalty, what should we do?

Well, we would recommend looking at whether your current seo company are to blame, if so then you may wish to change agencies.

Next thing, obtain reliable advice from a respected white hat agency. Every single businesses backlinks are likely to be different, so an seo consultant will need to look at the backlinks, and work out which backlinks are spammy, and which ones are low quality.

In some cases the seo business may recommend disavowing backlinks, and a change of approach in terms of how the business is building backlinks. So in a nutshell, you need to obtain quality advice.

What exactly does it mean to disavow backlinks?

If a website has accumulated a load of low quality backlinks, then sometimes an agency or a business may deem it appropriate to disavow the backlinks. This basically means asking Google if they can disconnect the backlinks from the website, its then up to Google’s algorithm to take into account the disavow request.

However, a word to the wise, disavowing links should only be undertaken by an expert. The reason for this is if you disavow all links, or get the process wrong, well you really could make your website drop even more! So do consult with a white hat seo expert.

Why should my business be checking our backlinks?

Simply put if employ SEO consultants or you hire an seo company, they should be checking the health of your businesses backlinks on a regular basis.

The reason for this is rather simple, if your website accumulates a load of spam links, or just low quality links, then this could result in a link penalty, like the Penguin penalties.

So, if your marketing agency or your business spots this problem early on, the better you will be equipped to rectify any potential problems.

What exactly are backlinks, are why are they deemed so important?

Introduction

It’s rare if any business can sit through a meeting with their SEO agency, and not hear the word “backlinks” been mentioned at least once.

Backlinks are an important part of the seo process, and often all that differentiates the businesses at the top in hyper competitive business sectors, are you guessed it, backlinks.

What exactly are backlinks?

Say you are looking to purchase a holiday, and you’ve booked your destination, yet you also wish to hire a car as well.

So the website where you booked your holiday has a highlighted text, that simply reads “hire cars”- so when you click that you are taken to another website- that is in essence a backlink.

Yet backlinks take on a different meaning for us SEO agencies, that’s to say they are way of informing Google’s algorithm that your website is important, that’s of course if the seo is implemented correctly.

Used to decipher how important your businesses website is

Imagine just for a second you have two separate businesses, and both are seo news websites.

Now one websites doesn’t have any other websites linking to it, yet the other, well that has thousands of backlinks, are the backlinks are from trusted businesses, the sorts of businesses that have an instantly recognisable brand- so which website would you trust to obtain your seo news from?

Well, the latter of course, and Google’s algorithm works in a similar way. Yet, as you learn as you continue to read this article, not all backlinks are equal, some will help to improve your businesses seo, and some can damage your companies seo.

Make your website a resource

Here’s our very best piece of advice that we would like you to take-away with you, that is so many digital marketing agencies spend hours, days, months and also years trying to obtain backlinks.

This often involves e-mailing, phoning and meeting with businesses to try and get quality backlinks.

But here’s our best bit of advice, start with optimising your website first, make it the best resource for information that you can.

So for example, say you run a solicitors practice, and you specialise in the area of divorce, we believe you should aim to offer the best advice that you can.

You may be thinking, where’s the incentive in giving information away for free? Well, by answering the questions that people often have when embarking on the divorce process you will be helping people find answers to a question they have.

And once your website is seen as an authority, a place where many people go to for advice is likely you will accumulate backlinks.

These backlinks if of a high-quality can help to improve where your website ranks, so giving away free advice can in turn help to improve where your business is ranked, therefore helping your business to improve its seo.

Quality is a must

Quality is an absolute must, as not all backlinks are worth the same. Some backlinks, which are from a high-quality source can help to improve where your business ranks.

Yet, with that said if your website was to accumulate links that are not from high-quality websites, well this can actually damage a websites seo.

Poor quality backlinks are lead to a link penalty. For example, Google’s Penguin update can penalise a website if it has rubbish backlinks.

Must be relevant

The backlinks should be relevant to your business, so for example, if you run a dental practice there’s not much point in obtaining a backlink from your local golf club.

Anchor text

It’s important that your online marketing agency optimise your businesses anchor text in a white hat way.

Many businesses have been hit by the Google Penguin update, and this sometime occurred because the business in question over optimised their anchor text.

Over optimising the anchor text is a really poor form of seo, and this can occur when the business keeps repeating terms within the anchor text that they wish the business to rank for.

So for example, say you run a construction business, you may keep placing “builders + name of city” within the anchor text.

Google Penguin

The Google Penguin update was an update that Google rolled out to penalise websites that had low quality links.

Sometimes some marketing agencies refer to these backlinks as spam.

How do you earn backlinks?

We think that the best way a business can earn backlinks is via an organic method, this means your website should have such good quality information, that other businesses and websites want to link to you.

For example, say your business retails bathroom items, such as showers, baths and bathroom suites.

If you were to offer really good, top quality advice relating on to fit these items, then such work is likely to obtain backlinks.

That’s to DIY websites, and websites to do with home refurbishment are likely to want to link to the work, or mention the business in a blog post.

Manual

The other way to build backlinks is the manual way, yet this is really dependent on the skill set of the marketing agency.

That’s to say some marketing agencies have brilliant link builders, yet some other agencies may not build backlinks correctly, which of course could result in the business incurring a penalty.

Google’s Panda Update

Introduction

It’s been a while since Google first rolled out their Panda update back in 2011, yet this important update still impacts many websites today.

So, all that commotion surrounding this update may have died down a bit, but its still super important that both seo agencies, and clients alike understand what the Panda update is about.

The reason being is when your equipped with some understanding how this update works, you will have a better understanding of how to implement white hat seo.

It’s safe to say the days of optimising a website just for seo gain are now over, now websites should aim to be the best service by optimising the website in a white hat way.

So, SEO has radically changed, and that’s thanks to the Panda.

Which websites did the Panda update particularly target?

If a business had low quality seo implemented, then that business may have been impacted by Panda.

These are the websites that were most often impacted

Content thin

Ever landed on a company’s website and been unimpressed by the lack of information? Perhaps for example you wanted to purchase a new pair of shoes, and the only information on the shoes were which size you would like to purchase.

Instead you wanted to know if the shoes were leather, a bit more about the brand for example. Well websites with little in the way of information could be deemed as being “content thin”.

This is a sign that the website may well be low quality, as what is often needed is unique descriptions for each product.

Spammy

Often when a business invests in super cheap seo, there’s a reason for why the seo is so cheap, often it’s because the work is spammy or black hat.

Black hat seo will mean the website will incur a penalty. Spammy seo, that is just low quality seo which can also result in a penalty.

For example, you may well be looking to find an accountant in your local city, so “accountant + city name” may just get placed in the content too much.

Also, the meta title, meta description, alt text may well have “accountant + city” placed in every bit,  and us seo’s call this “keyword stuffing”- it’s a really poor seo tactic, one likely to mean the business will incur a penalty.

That is just one example of seo work that could be deemed as spammy, there are many more.

Duplicated content

If a website was to have duplicated content, then this can adversely affect the businesses rankings.

White hat seo dictates that all content should be original to that website, this means if you are retailer, it doesn’t make sense to copy and paste product descriptions that may be provided by the manufacturer’s website.

The Panda update is improving and sophisticated

It’s worth mentioning that the Panda algorithm update wasn’t something that was created, and then forgotten about.

Most seo agencies believe that the Google Panda update will be updated on a regular basis.

These regular updates of the Google Panda update will be to help Google weed out low quality websites, and as new rubbish seo methods are introduced to try and fool the algorithm, well you guessed in Google is likely to be one step ahead.

So how should our business be creating content marketing?

We believe you have to think of the following three factors when creating quality content marketing:

Relevant

We believe your content marketing should be relevant to your business. Now this may sound pretty obvious, but in matter of fact many businesses do not make their content relevant.

Sure, the content may be relevant in the sense that its about the business, but is it relevant to what the business offers as a service or product?

Let us give you an example, say you run a family law practice, and you specialise in the area of divorce.

Now what would you deem a better seo strategy, articles about how you’ve attended an awards ceremony and recap on what the business has been up to, or articles more focused on answering divorce related questions?

Well we think the latter, sure a few articles on what the business has been up to is okay, yet if you lose sight of offering information that really helps your customers, well the seo strategy is likely to fail.

So, you need to instead offer really good quality advice to your customers.

High-quality

All seo work must be high quality. By high-quality we mean white hat.

Detailed

You often see it on some company websites that they have invested in seo, but sometimes it may be a bit of a rubbish effort that is made by the marketing agency.

For example, they may add blog posts, but the word count may be on the low side. So, with just a few lines of text they just offer some company update, but in reality, it wont be of much use to in terms of improving the businesses seo.

So, we believe if your going to answer a common questions that your customers may have, well you have to push the boat out.

So here’s what we think your content marketing efforts should include:

·        Answer the question in sufficient depth, if the blog post needs to be over 2000 to answer the question then so be it

·        Offer quality not quantity

·        Link to where you have found the information, so basically cite your sources

·        Make it interesting, for example the blog post may contain all the relevant facts, but is it at the cost of sending the reader to sleep?

·        Make it white hat

·        Don’t copy other people’s work

·        Use titles, alt tags, meta titles and meta descriptions

·        Write or create content marketing that will be useful, don’t just focus on trying to improve your businesses seo

Google’s set of questions

Search Engine Land published an interesting article that is well worth a read, regarding the Google Panda update.

Quality

As already mentioned, focus on quality. All seo work should be white hat.

Must answer the question

Sometimes some digital marketing agencies have been focused on creating content marketing that is just written to a meet a word count.

Yet, as you can imagine often the information isn’t very useful. So, what you end up with is often 500 words of rabbling without offering any useful information.

This is often the type of content marketing that annoys customers. For example, say you were a bathroom retailer, and you published an article advising on how to fit a new shower enclosure.

Well, if the article just promoted various shower enclosures, and didn’t really offer any DIY advice, well as you would guess the reader is going to feel as though you have just wasted their time.

This means that they are likely to leave the website, and not visit anymore information that the website has to offer. Often the reader will quickly pick-up that the page is marketing gibberish, and leave the website, which means the website will incur a higher bounce rate.

Most digital marketing agencies, including ours, believe that a sky-high bounce rate can mean that some websites will see their rankings decrease. The reason for this is that it’s a clear sign that the website doesn’t answer the persons question.

What does NAP mean?

Introduction

If your business has just started to invest in SEO, well it’s probably safe to say that you may now have a headache from all the marketing jargon that most marketing agencies use.

Yet we have the cure to that headache, as here at this marketing agency we do things differently.

We are different because we explain things clearly, and without the marketing waffle.

So, if you’ve landed on this page, were guessing you want to find out what NAP means, and how NAP can be used to improve your businesses seo.

So, without further ado, let’s explain a few things that you need to know about NAP.

What does NAP mean?

Now you’re probably thinking this will require a long drawn out explanation, yet NAP simply stands for your businesses name, its address and phone number.

However, what’s a little bit more complex is how you should use your businesses NAP details in order to improve your businesses SEO.

So, let our SEO experts explain how your business should use its NAP details in order to help improve your local seo.

NAP is only one part of the SEO process

Its fair to say that some businesses are always looking for that golden bullet, that’s to say that one bit of SEO knowledge that they can implement that will help to sky-rocket their business to the top of Google.

However, a word to the wise, there is no such golden bullet! So, if you’re thinking that all you need to do is build business citations, well you would be mistaken, and here’s why.

To have your business ranked at the top of Google you will need your website to have the strongest ranking signals, and for your business be deemed the most relevant for that query.

So, in a nutshell, you have to have the strongest ranking signals than all of your competitors, and also answer that question the best. This is the only way a business can rank at the top.

But here’s the thing, there are thought to be well over 200 ranking signals, so NAP only makes up a tiny fraction of the SEO work that is often required.

So, don’t get us wrong using NAP to improve your businesses seo is important, yet there are loads of other things your seo agency should be working on also.

First things first…

Make sure that the NAP information on your website is correct. Now you might be thinking, how on earth would our business have its name, address or phone number written incorrectly?

Well, you would be surprised, sometimes the NAP information is not written clearly, or sometimes the contact page has been updated with a new phone number and address, yet the footer address and phone number may read differently.

But by far the most common problem is when the NAP information is written in such a way that Googlebot simply cannot read the NAP information.

For example, if the NAP information is written within a picture. Also, sometimes the NAP information is not visible at all, for example a contact form may be used, and the only piece of NAP information that is shown is the businesses phone number.

So, do make sure that the NAP information is written on your website, but also so that Googlebot can read it easily.

Local phone number

Sometimes some businesses use a mobile phone number as their main contact number, that’s instead of using a landline number.

For some businesses they may have no choice but to use a mobile phone number, such as an emergency plumber for example.

Yet, if you do have the choice, then we would recommend listing your landline number.

Also its important to remember that you should use a local number that corresponds to the city or town you are optimising the website for.

Build citations

Now that you have your businesses NAP information spot on, it’s now time to build citations.

You should build citations on quality websites, such as Facebook. You should therefore build a company page, then make sure the businesses name, address and phone number are mentioned.

Be consistent!

Okay, so now you are tasked with building a load of business citations, so you may go and make yourself an espresso, and start writing your businesses NAP information on various websites.

Yet, you must be consistent! By consistent we mean this, the NAP information on your company website must match exactly with your business’s citations.

Schema

If you really want to push the boat out, well we would highly recommend that you get schema added to your website.

So, it’s worth paying a website designer, or an seo company to add schema to your website. You should ask the business to mark-up your businesses NAP details.

FAQ

Cost

How much do your SEO services cost?

There will be some SEO companies that offer fixed prices for organic and local seo, and these prices are mentioned on their website.

This can sometimes give a rough idea as to what the business might expect to pay.

However, every industry sector is different, so in some regards fixed price packages are almost a waste of time.

The reason that fixed price packages are often a waste of time is due to the fact that the level of work needed is dictated by your competitors.

This means if you have competitors have already set the SEO standard very high, well this will then have to be exceeded by your business, that’s if you wish for your business to rank higher.

So, as you can see, a local insurance broker calling an seo company to purchase a £250.00 per month seo package, to get the business ranked for the term “car insurance companies”- well that’s likely to be a total waste of money for that insurance company.

That’s because there will be many insurance companies that will have already be investing in seo, and investing millions insuring that their businesses rank on the first page. So, the local car insurance companies marketing budget is likely to be a drop in the ocean.

So this may sound a bit defeatist, but its important to be realistic when investing in seo, as too many seo agencies grab a clients money, make false promises, and then leave the business in question disappointed.

So, what you really have to look for is an seo agency that offers you the best value for money. This means you need to partner with a white hat seo company that informs you about what you can realistically achieve with your marketing budget.

This means we set our seo prices depending on how strong your competitors are. Some seo companies don’t do this, they offer a low price to try and secure a company’s business, however often this wont offer the amount of work needed for you to beat your competitors.

Often it will only get the business to rank for “longtail keywords” – which offer a lower amount of visitors, and are not as effective.

So our seo prices vary, they typically vary between £250.00 being our lowest price, and then we offer prices which can go up to £2000.00+ per month. For an exact quote, why not e-mail us today.

We can often offer your business a quote after a short period of time.

How long will we have to pay for?

If your looking to invest in organic SEO or local SEO, this means that you should be aware that its an ongoing process. This means that often a monthly investment is needed.

This is not to say you cant cancel at anytime with us, because you can, but its worth bearing in mind that organic seo often needs a monthly investment.

Now obviously from a businesses perspective you may well be thinking well, why do we have to pay monthly?

Why can’t we pay a one-off payment and your seo company gets our business to the top of Google?

Well, there are two very good reasons for this, number one your website is compared with your competitors, so as soon as your competitors seo is deemed better than your business they will overtake your business in a flash.

Meaning even when a business gets onto the first page of Google, its not guaranteed to stay there for any length of time, that’s because a competitor may overtake the website in a flash.

So this is why organic seo is an ongoing process.

As you can imagine there will always be a new group of companies wanting to take your space.

Also, our digital marketing agency doesn’t recommend that loads of SEO gets implemented in a one off hit of seo, and then nothing added for months after.

The reason being is Google’s algorithms will be looking for spam, and a website having no seo added to the site, then a massive amount of seo all in one go, well, it this seo work may well be deemed as spam, which could actually damage where your website ranks and not improve the seo.

Why can’t we just pay a one-off fee and you get our business to the top?

It’s probably one of the most common questions that we get asked, and its perfectly understandable why a business would want to pay a one-off fee and then get a cast-iron guarantee that the business gets to the first page of Google- however we don’t recommend this, and neither do we offer this.

The reason that we don’t offer this service is your business is in constant competition with your competitors. So this means that you may well have competitors that have been investing in seo for many years.

This means to bring you level with a competitors seo will often take a considerable amount of work.

But then what’s to say a competitor improves there seo, which most do on a monthly basis, so soon enough your website will start to drop back down.

But here’s the main reason we don’t offer seo in one off hits, and why so many other seo companies do not neither.

That’s because a website that hasn’t had any or little seo, which then has massive amounts of seo added in one hit, well this can look spammy.

It can therefore trigger the algorithms attention, for example why were so many backlinks built that month?

Or, why were so many blog posts added all at once?

The work could therefore possibly be deemed as spam, as it don’t look normal to have no seo added for years, then a massive amount of seo in say the space of a few months.

So this is why we don’t offer this service, as it could mean a website drops down the ranks, and not goes up the ranks.

This is because Google, and the other search engines are very cautious when it comes to spam, anything that looks like spam may well be subjected to a penalty.

For example a Google Panda penalty or a Google Penguin penalty.

So what’s the solution?

Well we would highly recommend that your seo work is drip-fed, and by this we mean slowly implemented every month by a white hat seo company.

Why is organic SEO an ongoing process?

Organic SEO is not a one-off process. This means that a business shouldn’t expect to pay an seo agency to get them to the top and then stop investing.

The reason is your business is in constant competition with other websites, so as soon as a competitor is deemed to have stronger seo, well that website will move up.

What often happens when a business stops investing is the competition will improve their seo, then they overtake a bunch of businesses, so it then becomes harder to overtake that business.

So a lot of seo agencies, including ours do not offer stop, start seo. Instead its better to keep chipping away at improving a website, and in doing so you can improve your businesses seo to a standard it makes it harder for competitors to overtake the business.

However, with that said, sometimes a business will simply spend so much money on seo that they leapfrog the competition, and therefore it often boils down to how much of a marketing budget the business has and how good the seo agency is that they have employed.

But one thing for sure, more often than not, if a business stops paying then often they are overtaken by their direct competitors.

Why do we have to pay each month?

Your competitors will often be working on getting their business onto the first page of Google, therefore all of the businesses on the first page of Google are all battling to either retain or improve where they are.

This means that there will always be other companies that want to take your position, or reach the top.

So this is why most businesses pay every month, that’s so an seo agency can keep working on the businesses seo and keep improving the businesses seo so that the website can constantly be striving to beat the competition.

Sometimes some businesses will face companies that have enormous marketing budgets, so sometimes its simply not possible to hold off such competition.

Yet to stop investing altogether, well as website will often keep going down the ranks, that’s while other businesses with better seo take your place.

So this is why businesses normally pay per month for seo.

How does your SEO company know what to charge?

Our monthly fee is based on an assessment of how strong your competitor’s SEO is. For example if you have many competitors that have many good quality backlinks, coupled to good onsite SEO then we will know a rough idea of how much work is needed.

However it is also based on the current level of performance of your website, for example if we are taking over from another agency, and the seo that they have implemented is of a good quality, then this can reduce the amount of work that we need to do.

You may well be thinking, well why would you be taking over from an agency that was doing a good job- well sometimes this is due to the agency putting their prices up, so often businesses then shop around for a better quote.

However, our monthly fee is dependent on how strong your competitor’s SEO is. For example, if its apparent that some of your competitors are investing a lot of time every month on improving their SEO, then this will influence the quote that offer to customers.

Cancellation

Can we cancel at any time?

With our SEO agency yes you can, however some businesses do tie companies in to 12 month contracts.

So, if you want more flexibility in terms of being able to cancel when you want, well we can offer this.

Guarantees

Do you guarantee results?

From a customer’s perspective it seems reasonable that if you pay for something, that the business in question must then guarantee results.

However, many leading seo agencies do not guarantee results, and our seo agency does not either, but there’s a good reason for that.

That is when it comes to investing in organic it boils down to how much time a business can dedicate to the seo work.

There may well be a group of competitors, or a new-start-up business that will have a truly massive marketing budget, meaning that some businesses will not be able to compete.

This means a business with a £250.00 per month budget often cant compete with a company which has hired a well respected seo agency and is spending £10,000.00 per month.

However, there’s another reason that we don’t and many other businesses do not guarantee results, and that’s because it also boils down to how long has a business invested for?

For example, some of your direct competitors may have been investing in organic seo for say the last 8 years, so a business just starting to invest cannot realistically expect to make serious inroads into beating their competitors in just say the first month.

However, this is often not the facts that most seo companies want to draw your attention to right at the very start. Instead they often want to get your signature on a long contract, then they may start to get you quick results through what are called “longtail keywords” which can sometimes mean your website will be on the first page of Google, but for terms that nobody searches for, so are pretty much useless.

However, the businesses that know a bit more about SEO, well they know it is a slow process, and you have to partner with the best minds you can find to improve the site, that’s even if they don’t offer quick results.

So we don’t guarantee results, and that’s because your businesses place in the pecking order is often dependent on the time your seo agency can spend working on your businesses SEO. Plus you do have to factor in how long have your competitors been investing for?

If it looks like quite a while, that’s because they have say 1000 good quality backlinks, well often there’s much catching up to do, and this takes time. So the agencies that promise the earth, and guarantee that they will get you to the first page of Google in few months, well its down to you as the business to work out how genuine those claims are.

This is also not factoring in another thing that you should consider, that is the businesses that do guarantee results, well, sometimes they are not interested in doing any hard work, they want to cheat the algorithms into thinking your businesses SEO is better than it is, this can then cause a penalty.

A penalty, such as a Google Penguin or Panda penalty can sometimes take a long time to recover from, in the meantime your website may not be on Google, and if it is well it may have dropped significantly to say the 11th page of Google.

So often the agencies that promise the earth, for very little money, well the old saying does start to ring true- you do get what you pay for!

How long will it take to get my website onto the first page of Google?

This is solely dependant on your competitors. For example, if your business is up against businesses that have invested in seo, and have done so for a long time then the process will be much slower.

Some seo agencies don’t point this out at the very start, they are just eager to get your money, however we are different.

So imagine your competitors websites like you would a wall, well if your competitors have been building their walls for a long time, well that wall is going to be hard to scale.

This is why it sometimes takes many months, even years to catch up with the competition. Of course we can give an estimation in terms of timescales when you contact us, however its worth bearing this in mind, that is if your competitors have been investing in white hat seo for many years, well it can therefore take sometimes a long time to catch up with the competition.

This is not too deter you from investing, however its important to be realistic, as sometimes some agencies will be willing to make bold claims which can not later be backed up with following through.

You really do therefore have to work hard in terms of finding an seo agency that’s honest, and that has seo consultants that have up to date seo knowledge. As often when a business does get onto the first page this means that your businesses SEO agency will be competing with what are likely to be other businesses that have employed skilled seo companies.

So therefore just as your business is improving your seo, so will your competitors. This is why organic seo is an ongoing process. How long it take to get your business onto the first page is dependent on how good your competitors seo is, and how long they have been investing for.

Quality

How do we know the quality of the SEO work will be good?

Most businesses that invest in SEO these days rightly are worried about the quality of the SEO work they will receive.

For example, a website that pays for seo, yet the seo is low-quality may receive a penalty. For example, a Google Penguin penalty can mean that a website drops and sometimes some businesses are removed altogether from Google.

So its really crucial that the quality of the work is good. At our seo agency we will only ever offer white hat seo work, which means that we only ever offer quality work.

Google’s algorithm will reward good quality white hat work, so this is the only type of seo that our business offers.

Why should businesses that are about to invest SEO know about the Google Panda and Penguin updates?

There are so many seo agencies that compete on price, and sometimes the prices are so low that the seo agency then cuts corners. Now don’t get us wrong, it doesn’t mean that low prices automatically means that the business will receive low quality seo, that’s because some agencies have charged high prices that still provided low quality seo to their clients.

However, what’s important to remember is this, that is regardless of how much the seo cost, if the work is low-quality the business could incur a penalty. Google penalties are often given many different names, such as the Google Penguin or Google Panda penalties for example.

These penalties can mean that the websites rankings drop, plus sometimes a penalty can mean that a website is removed from Google, or the other search engines altogether.

So, its important for businesses to know that low quality seo can sometimes mean that the business will incur a penalty.

Its important to know that also many businesses have then subsequently turned to other seo companies in order to rectify the problems caused by the previous seo agency. This means that the business may then pay a lot of money to correct the problems with the businesses seo.

Organic

What is organic SEO?

Let’s say you are looking to purchase a new coffee machine online, and let’s say you are using Google to help you locate your perfect coffee machine.

Well normally the results for the coffee machines will be like this, PPC adds at the top, then if your looking to purchase locally you may have some local business results (Google My Business). Then underneath those businesses, you will normally have roughly ten organic business listings.

Now this means that the majority of the page will be taken up by organic business listings, so this is why so many businesses want to be on the first page of Google within the organic business listings.

That’s because organic business listings are the bulk of the results, but also because if your business is ranked higher up the page, in the first business position well its likely to get more clicks.

So organic seo is the process of improving your businesses seo so that your business climbs up the organic business results.

A lot of companies therefore pay an SEO agency, like us to help improve where there business ranks.

Normally seo companies charge a set monthly fee. We charge our clients per month, and we determine the price on how strong your competitors are, meaning we assess how much work is needed to beat your competitors seo.

How is this any different from say PPC?

PPC is totally different, with PPC you set your budget, and which keywords you want to rank for. As long as you pay the fee your website can appear in the PPC adds.

However, with organic SEO you don’t pay Google for your website to rank, instead you may wish to partner with an seo agency like us, this is so we can improve your businesses seo so that your business ranks higher.

Most seo companies, including us charge per month for the time we spend improving your businesses seo.

Is organic seo a fast process?

The truth is no, often it is not a fast process at all. This is what can deter a lot of businesses from investing.

The reason that so many businesses do not invest is because of the amount of work that is often needed for that company to catch up with their competitors seo.

For example, you may have a direct competitor that has invested in organic seo every month for say the last 8 years. This means that the businesses seo is likely to be very strong and therefore a lot of work would need to be implemented to overtake that business.

So this means that the business with the strong seo, well that business may have say 1000 good quality links. And this alone may take some other companies many years to catch-up with that number of good quality backlinks.

So as you can see, organic seo is not often a fast process, however, for the businesses that do succeed and do partner with the right seo companies, well often organic seo can offer their business a big competitive advantage.

However, the business must invest in white hat seo, and must partner with a white hat seo company.

Why do some agencies charge low prices and some charge very high prices?

A lot of business owners can get confused as to why the quotes that are offered by marketing agencies vary so much. That’s to say one company may quote £250.00 for local seo, while another seo agency may quote £2000.00- so why is there so much of a difference.

Well, as you can imagine there can loads of different reasons why the quotes offered by different seo companies vary so much.

However with that said, you do have to figure out whether one agency is offering white hat work, and perhaps another agency isn’t.

White hat seo, which is often referred to as quality seo means that the agency should be implementing seo the correct way. However, some agencies say that they are offering white hat seo, when in matter of fact they are not.

However, with that said, sometimes the really cheap quotes can be offered because the agency is cutting corners. For example the marketing agency may well be using automated link building, which is most definitely not recommend, as this form of seo could lead to a penalty.

Having said that often cheap seo is offered because there’s not actually much work that an actual seo consultant is doing. That’s to say the company may well be cutting corners, so often this is why prices can vary so massively.

Why should the organic seo work be white hat?

We strongly recommend that you only invest in white hat seo. However, some agencies say they are offering white hat work when the work is not white hat.

White hat simply means that the marketing agency is using the correct ways to implement seo, they are not therefore cutting corners.

However, as mentioned a bit earlier, sometimes an agency will make promises which are false, such as work is white hat, when it sometimes not.

Local

What is local seo?

Whether you run a local pizza take-away shop or an accountancy practice, its most likely that your business could benefit from investing in local seo.

Local seo is the term that’s used to describe work that can get your business listed in the Google My Business results, and the organic business listings.

So for example, your pizza take away shop will most likely want to be ranked at the top of Google for “local pizza take-away shops”.

Now if your seo agency correctly implements your businesses seo, so for example they build good quality backlinks, they improve your businesses NAP information by building business citations, well your website stands a better chance of ranking higher.

However, its also more than likely that there will be other businesses in the area that also want to rank high on Google. So, this means that often they will be employing an seo company to improve their seo, let’s say by adding blog posts each month, so this is often why so many businesses hire an seo company.

Why do most businesses invest in both organic and local seo?

Let’s say for example you run a local solicitors practice, and your solicitors practice specialises in the area of divorce.

So when someone searches for “divorce solicitors near me”- your business would obviously like to appear on the map and within the Google My Business results. However, where there was once on average seven businesses ranked here, now there are normally only three businesses.

This now means that many businesses don’t just invest in local seo, but also organic seo as well.

The organic business results take up the majority of the page, that’s to say when looking for a divorce solicitor you may well be presented with 10 organic business results, so it therefore makes sense to aim to get the business to rank within the local business results, and the organic business results.

How much does local seo cost?

How much local SEO costs is dependent on how much competition your business is up against.

For example, let’s say you run a dental practice, yet there may be 20 other dentists that are also investing in seo.

So this may mean that most of the dentists have been investing in SEO for a very long time, let’s say for example for the last 8 years.

This means that over the 8 years these businesses have improved their seo, this now means that their seo is very strong.

This therefore means that a business that’s just starting to invest in SEO, will have to catch up with these businesses, and catching up is just the first part, then the business has to have better seo if it is to rank higher than these other businesses.

So, this means that often there will be a lot of seo work needed, such as building links, and this is what dictates how much the monthly cost for SEO will be.

So for example, for a business that doesn’t have much competition, let’s say a local pet shop, well it may well be so that the business may only need £250.00 pound spent on the businesses seo with us, however if the business is a solicitors practice, and the competition have very strong seo then the monthly cost may well be £2000.00 plus per month.

Why should the work be white hat?

We only ever recommend investing in white hat seo. If you do not know what white hat seo let us explain.

White hat seo basically means that the business is implementing seo correctly, however here’s the thing, some business state that their work is white hat, when in matter of fact it is not.

This is why you really do have to think carefully about which seo company you choose, as your business only wants to be investing in the best quality work.

If your business does not, and you invest in seo which is low-quality, well the business may incur a penalty.

For example many businesses have received a Google Penguin or Google Panda penalty and this is because the business has used low quality seo.

So often one of the signs that the seo work will be low quality is if the marketing agency is offering the work at a really low price, as realistically how much quality work can be offered for a low amount of money?

But its not just the agencies that offer low prices, sometimes the agencies that charge high prices  may implement rubbish seo. So, you really do have to pick a company that offers quality work.

SEO

What does link building mean?

One of the main reasons that some businesses are ranked on the first page of Google is because they have good quality backlinks.

For example, let’s say you’re you run an architects practice, and you have links from construction businesses, your business may have 100 good quality backlinks.

So this is often the reason for why one business will be on the first page of Google and other architects may well be on page 11 of Google.

However, some backlinks can help to improve your businesses seo, because they are good quality and relevant to your business, yet other types of backlinks, such as low quality backlinks could damage your businesses seo.

For example, so many businesses falsely believe that the more backlinks their business obtains the better, that’s regardless of quality- however this is not true.

Its really important that you only obtain good quality backlinks, and we can help your business to build backlinks.

However, its also important to know that building backlinks are only one part of the seo process, that’s to say seo agencies like us normally work on improving many different areas of the businesses seo.

In matter of fact there are over 200 ways that an seo company could improve a businesses seo, that’s  because there are over 200 ranking signals.

So often a digital marketing agency like ours will quote to improve many different areas of the businesses seo each month.

What does content marketing mean?

Content marketing is another really important part of the seo process. Many businesses think that content marketing is just merely written words, like the text you would read on a blog post.

And it is true that most content marketing is written text, however it could also be a YouTube video for example. Or perhaps the business uses a combination of YouTube and written text.

Sometimes some businesses think that by adding a few blog posts to their website that the seo will improve.

However, it’s the same as building backlinks, that’s to say if the quality is really good, then this can help the businesses seo. However, with that said, if the work is low quality, for example it doesn’t really answer the question, well this could be deemed low quality seo, and could therefore actually damage the businesses seo.

It could damage the businesses seo because the website may incur a higher bounce rate, that’s if a lot of the content marketing work is deemed not good quality. Also, the work may not be created in a white hat way, so this means that for example the author may have mentioned certain words that they want to improve the businesses seo for too much.

So for example, let’s say you run a dental practice, and you want to attract more customers who want their teeth made whiter, well, you may mention teeth whitening too many times.

That’s to say for someone reading the work, it may seem odd that you keep mentioning “teeth whitening” too many times in the article, well Google’s algorithm may detect that you keep mentioning this phrase too much also, so much so that work may well be deemed as spam.

This means that the business may incur a penalty, such as a Google Panda penalty.

So what is content marketing?

Well, it mostly is written text, however the quality must be really good, and by that we mean that each article should be:

·        Written by an expert on the subject

·        We always think that blog posts should be over 500 words

·        Written in a white hat way, so no adding keywords repeatedly

·        Should be well researched, so if you do mention someone else’s work, then we would recommend adding an outbound backlink

·        Should be checked for spelling mistakes

·        Must follow white hat rules

Reporting

How will I know if my businesses SEO is improving?

We simply send an seo report every single month you invest in organic seo with us. And some marketing agencies send seo reports which are simply full of marketing jargon and complicated graphs.

We think that some seo companies use such reports to try and pull the wool over their clients eyes.

That’s to say if the website’s seo hasn’t improved too much, well they will have so many seo metrics that they just focus on the one which has improved.

However our seo company is different, we focus on the really important figures, such as how many organic visitors has the website received?

Also what’s the bounce rate like, is it high?

Also we will look at what are the best performing keywords, for example, if you run a solicitors practice and you specialise in divorce, well is your website ranking for divorce related terms?

So our reports focus on the really important parts of improving a businesses seo. The marketing jargon we do not add, this way a business owner, or indeed an internal marketing team can see straightaway how the business is improving, in terms of its seo, and therefore we offer seo reports which make it clear to see how your organic seo is improving.

What does your agency use to track SEO improvements?

We use a number of different seo tools, we use different tools to spot new backlinks that have been built. But which tools we use is dependent on the client, for example if we are working for a large business, that sells a lot of products we use different tools for that client than we would for some other businesses.

We therefore use a number of seo tools, we also use Google Analytics and we also use Google Search Console.

We therefore monitor the following:

Bounce rates

If a website has a really high bounce rate, well its often up to the website designers and the seo agency to figure out why this is so.

A high bounce rate means that a lot of people are visiting your company website, then leaving more or less straightaway.

So, for example, let’s say you run a restaurant, its kind of like 90 out of the 100 customers popping their head around the door, but then leaving. That’s of course if the bounce rate is 90%.

So basically the higher the bounce rate, the more people that are leaving your website straight away.

Some businesses think that this only matters for e-commerce businesses, i.e businesses that sell items online. However, its not just e-commerce businesses, its also websites that sell services as well.

For example, let’s say you run an accountancy practice, and your website has a bounce rate of 90% and one of your direct competitors, their bounce rate is 10%.

Well, business number two, that’s the business with the 10% bounce rate well that’s obviously keeping people on the website for longer. The algorithms are therefore likely to determine that this website best answers the question, as otherwise why would a visitor bounce off the website, its most likely because it didn’t answer the persons question.

This is why seo companies, and website designers often spend considerable amounts of time trying to reduce a businesses bounce rate.

Sometimes this can be achieved relatively easily, for example a homepage with just 2 lines of text, well why not add more information, why not make it 30 lines of text that is likely to be useful to your customers?

However often its more complicated, such as is your website easy to navigate, for example if you sell a lot of items such as clothing, and your brown shoes are not selling very well, is that because its hard to find the section of your website that sells brown shoes?

Is it because your website doesn’t allow clothing to be sorted into what the customer wants? So as you can see often an seo agency and a website design company will need to work together to improve a businesses bounce rate.

Number of organic visitors

Obviously if you run a shop you want more customers to come into your shop, well the same can be said about your website.

However, even though you want more visitors, and for these visitors to find your business through your organic business listings, you want customers that are likely to purchase something.

Or if not purchase something, get in touch with your business and request more information on what your business offers.

This comes down to the skill of the seo company, as its relatively easy to get the number of organic  visitors to increase, but the seo agency has to ask are these visitors buying anything.

So what we mean by this is say you run a solicitors practice, and you specialise in the area of divorce.

And your seo company adds a number of blog posts, these blog posts talk about high-profile celebrity divorces.

Well, these blog posts are likely to attract readers interested in that couples divorce, yet are the blog posts attracting readers who will then contact the solicitors practice and pay for divorce advice- probably not is the answer.

So your seo agency has to implement seo, but always be aiming to attract the right customers, customers who are likely to buy something.

Time spent on your website

This point is similar to your businesses bounce rate, that is you don’t want most of your businesses visitors leaving your website straightaway.

Instead you want them to shop around, and purchase something. So, in order to work out if your business is attracting the right visitors, one way is measure the average time spent on your businesses website.

For example, is the average visitor spending 30 seconds on your website, or are they spending 6 mins and 30 secs?

Obviously the longer the better, as they are more likely to be shopping around, and more likely to purchase from the business. If the visitor is leaving more or less straight away, well why is that? it obviously shows that what the business is not offering what the customer wants.

Perhaps it’s the price of items, or perhaps its because each product lacks a detailed product description? So your seo agency has to think about this.

Number of backlinks

Your seo company should be checking your businesses backlinks, that’s in terms of how many backlinks your company has, also whether or not the backlinks are quality or not.

Your seo agency should check that the backlinks are quality, as if they are not quality this could mean that your business incurs a penalty, such as a Google Penguin penalty.

So your seo company should check the quality of your businesses backlinks on a regular basis.

Where your website ranks for certain words

This is probably the most obvious point, but your seo company should be checking where your business ranks for certain words.

For example, are the words that the business ranks highest for relevant to the business? For example lets say you run a dental practice, well you may well be aiming for the business to rank for “dentists + name of city”.

However, if the website ranks instead for “how to floss your teeth” and “how to brush your teeth” well this is great, but its not likely to bring in much business.

So it’s the seo companies job to make sure that words the business ranks for are relevant to that business, but also likely to bring in paying customers.

How to improve your businesses local SEO in 7 steps

Introduction

Whether you run a small business, or you work for a multinational business that needs to improve its presence locally, local seo is mighty useful.

Now, we know that if you’re thinking about implementing SEO yourself, your probably looking for an easy how to guide. However, local seo is anything but easy normally.

The reason being is for most businesses they now face fierce competition. So, in a nutshell if you want to rank on the first page of Google you seo has to be blooming good.

So, here’s seven steps to improve your local seo:

#1 Obtain your Google My Business account

You can’t get your business to rank in the GMB listings, unless your business has a Google My Business account.

So, you either have to claim your listing, or you have to sign-up, either way it’s an absolute piece of cake.

Here’s the link to the page where you can obtain your Google My Business account.

#2 Obtain genuine reviews

So, you’ve been sent your pin code through the post, and now your GMB account is up and running.

Now is the time to ask those customers you have praised your company in the past, to get them to leave you a positive business review.

And here’s a really important piece of advice, don’t be tempted to write the customer reviews yourself.

There are two reasons for this, and they are fake reviews are sometimes obvious, and will put a potential customer off.

The second reason is Google’s algorithm is very clever, it will detect your cheating and your Google My Business listing will not be any use at all.

Your probably now thinking, what do we mean by no use at all? Well that’s an easy one to answer, Google has a very sophisticated algorithm, and if you try and trick it will mean that your website could be penalised.

Now in this example, we are talking about GMB and why not to leave fake business reviews. The reason is that say you run a pet shop, and you can see that when you search “local pet shops” all your competitors show up.

But your business doesn’t, well this is because you may have written fake business reviews, so in a nutshell Google has decided not to show your business, but your rival businesses instead.

So, don’t fake your businesses reviews.

#3 Use structured data

Sounds complicated doesn’t it? Well it can be, but basically your business should use Schema, and this should be used to mark-up important parts of your website, such as the businesses name, address and also its phone number.

With this part, we would recommend you contact an SEO agency for help.

#4 Get typing

As any quality focused digital marketing agency will be able to testify, quality content marketing is important.

In matter of fact, quality content marketing should be what propels your website forward. Yet, a word to the wise, we can not stress the absolute importance that the quality is high.

Plus, if you get the content marketing wrong, well there’s loads of algorithmic penalties that will penalise your website.

Which means if the quality is wrong, and you use rubbish seo, well your website will drop in terms of where it ranks.

So, our best advise is partner with a white hat agency, at least to obtain some advice on how to implement good quality SEO.

#5 Technical SEO

When you obtained your brand new website back from the website designers it might have been impressive.

You might have thanked the design agency for doing a brilliant job. Yet, with that said, when you start to have a look at most new websites from an SEO perspective, well its safe to say often they lack the basics.

Often the term “SEO included” is sometimes used by some website design agencies, but this sometimes only extends to a few titles being made, and perhaps a few meta descriptions.

Which is all pretty basic. Instead your seo company should go through your website, and optimise the following in a white hat way:

·        H1 to H6 tags

·        Meta titles and Meta descriptions

·        Insure that the website is not “content thin” and sufficient descriptions are used

·        Ensure content marketing is of good quality

·        Ensure that internal backlinks are used

·        Ensure that backlinks have anchor text

·        Make sure inbound links are of a good quality

·        And so much more

#6 Business citations

Make sure that your businesses NAP information is written business citations.

NAP stands for name of your business, its address and phone number.

Make sure that your businesses citations are consistent with what is mentioned on your website.

#7 Make sure that you refresh your knowledge on regular basis

You have some seo agencies that simply do get a bit stale. That’s to say they know seo methods that worked 10 years back, so they stick to those, and don’t adapt to what is the current best way of implementing seo.

Needless to say these seo agencies often go bankrupt. But if you do implement seo yourself, you do have to keep your knowledge up to date, and this hasn’t even got to cost you a penny, the reason being is there are good seo resources like MOZ that offer advice for absolutely free.

What does “schema mark-up” mean?

Introduction

When first investing in SEO, its common for a marketing agency to state loads of work that your website needs.

And this is all well and good, but if you haven’t got the foggiest clue as to what any of the terms mean, well you could be left just a little bit confused.

But do not worry, as here at this marketing agency we explains things very clearly. Within this blog post we are going to explain what schema mark-up means, and also how to add this to your businesses website.

Collaboration

Now when your reading about various forms of SEO, its pretty safe to say that the vast majority of agencies focus on optimising your businesses website for Google.

However, with schema you may here that this form of seo is promoted by most of the large search engines.

The reason being is that Google is said to have worked in collaboration with other search engines to help create schema.

Yes, but what is schema?

Well, when you on a website, say a website that reviews brand new cars, there’s likely to be tons of information.

For example, articles dedicated to explaining the performance of a new car, and what the car handles like.

But this mass of information is what we in SEO called unstructured data. Which basically means its useful from an SEO perspective, but it can sometimes be hard for the search engines to decipher what the page is about.

However, the search engines have got very clever at knowing what a page is about, and most SEO consultants believe massive leaps forward came from the Google Hummingbird updates and Google’s Knowledge Graph.

However, what if there was a language that most search engines understood, where you could mark up the really important areas of your website. Such as your businesses reviews, its contact details and also opening hours?

Well there is and this is called schema. So, basically instead of Googlebot having to work out what a page is about, after reading hundreds if not thousands of words, well Schema helps cut through all that, and allows you to highlight the really important details.

Rich snippets

Have you ever searched for a business, such as a hotel, and the listing that really stood out was the one that looked different from the other business listings.

For example, you were looking for a hotel, and the star rating appeared in the results, and all the other businesses didn’t have this?

Well this wasn’t magic that was taking place, it was most probably the hotels clever seo agency implementing schema to mark-up the businesses reviews.

As a hospitality business they know good customer reviews are essential to getting more bookings, so some businesses may wish to draw attention to the reviews that their business has. Schema can do this.

But rich snippets hasn’t got to  just be business reviews, it could be opening hours and many other details as well.

Local SEO

Digital marketing agencies, like our business use schema to mark-up details that are essential to improving a business’s local seo.

In SEO we refer to the name of the business, its address and phone number as “NAP” information.

You can use schema to mark-up the NAP information of your website. This way when Googlebot next crawls your company website, well you would have made it super easy for Google to know your businesses NAP details.

And this is pretty important, as with all the information on your business’s website, if you can make the important information, such as the NAP information standout, you will be helping to improve your businesses SEO.

So, how do you actually add schema to a website?

Adding schema to a website has never been so easy, that’s thanks to Google, which has a structured data mark-up helper.

Does your SEO company guarantee results?

Introduction

When we purchase something, we expect it to be delivered on time, right?

Well of course we do, that’s why we would have purchased the goods or services from that business.

So, you can see why most business owners expect the same when they invest in SEO.

That’s to say you pay for something, you should expect the seo company to guarantee that they will get your website to the top of Google by a certain date, right?

Well, for a lot of seo agencies, even the vast majority of leading seo businesses they do not guarantee results, and that’s with good reason.

So, if your wondering why most seo businesses don’t guarantee results, here’s why:

The competition could be too strong

Sometimes a start-up business will base within their business plan and projected sales on gaining so many customers through their website.

That’s to say, if they partner with an SEO agency, they then expect the sales to start coming through straightaway.

However, in reality organic seo can be a slow process, some seo agencies do not make that abundantly clear from the outset, yet to catch up with the competition, this can sometimes be a slow process.

Strong competitors

Your business may face competitors that have invested in seo for many years. Therefore, to set targets to overtake these competitors in a condensed timeframe, well this can sometimes be unrealistic.

Here’s why that is so, if your direct competitors have been investing for many years, that’s prior to your business investing, they will have been able to strengthen their websites ranking signals.

This means the benchmark may already be set high, and to overtake such competitors, well this may take a great deal of time.

This means many hundreds, if not thousands of backlinks may have been built by your rivals seo companies. This is just one ranking signal that an seo company should be optimising, there are over 200.

Therefore its important for both client and also businesses to be realistic as to how much ground can be covered to catch up with the competition.

Sandbox

Too many seo business are eager to say to companies that they can fulfil their marketing objectives, even though its sometimes unachievable, if not impossible on a slim marketing budget.

Take for example a start-up business, this means that the business will have normally just had a brand-new company website created.

Yet, what some seo businesses neglect to divulge in their sales pitch, is that a new website takes a lot more work to optimise.

In matter of fact, most new websites are placed in what are called a “sandbox” which basically means, it takes longer to optimise the website.

This means that for several months sometimes the website will not even show in Google for even the companies own business name, let alone any keywords.

Yet, sales reps acting on behalf of marketing agencies sometimes neglect to mention that, they just want to get your signature on that paper!

Kicked back down the ladder

Now its fair to say that when a business reaches the top of Google, for some businesses they can have a large increase in the amount of sales that the business generates.

So, you will have a handful of businesses that occupy the top positions, and therefore may pay an seo company to maintain where that business is ranked.

Now if a new business comes along, and then knocks one of these businesses off the top spots, well often the other businesses, the ones that have been at the top before, they may step-up seo activity in order to regain their position at the top.

For an established business, that has a high marketing budget, well sometimes they can keep paying until they occupy the top positions again.  This means that the established businesses may keep ploughing money into their marketing business until they regain a top position.

However, for say a start-up business, well sometimes they will not have the marketing budget to keep investing.

Now this is worth keeping in mind, because you really need to work with a marketing agency that will make the most out of your marketing budget from day one.

That’s to say you need to partner with a marketing agency that explains clearly every single step on the way where they applying seo work. Ask for a breakdown every month of what work you have obtained for that fee.

How did Google’s Hummingbird update change SEO?

Introduction

As most of you will be aware, Google is constantly improving its algorithm. And every so often Google rolls out a pretty hefty update to its algorithm, and these algorithm updates are normally given rather interesting names such as Google’s Panda and Penguin updates.

However, there was one update in particular that made a seismic change to how Google’s algorithm works, that update was called the Google Hummingbird update.

A brief history of Google’s Hummingbird update

Google first introduced the Hummingbird update in August 2013, and it is reported to affect about 90% of Google searches.

Many SEO experts have commented that this wasn’t like any normal update, it was somewhat of an overhaul of the old algorithm.

Yet, with that said, some of the old parts that made the algorithm work, such as Google’s Panda and Penguin updates, well they are most definitely carried across to the new algorithm.

That’s to say Google’s previous updates, that helped to eliminate low quality seo, well they were incorporated into this new algorithm.

Does quality still matter?

Most definitely, quality still matters. That’s to say if you employee or an seo company, then its important that you implement good quality white hat seo.

So, what changed? How did the Hummingbird update change SEO?

Google was really good at answering questions before Hummingbird, yet Hummingbird made the accuracy of the answers even better.

For example, imagine a question that could have loads of different meanings, such as where’s the best place to go for a pizza?

Well that could mean a few things, such as where’s the nearest supermarket, Italian restaurant, or even where’s the nearest pizza take away shop?

Google may be able to work out where your standing, where the nearest pizza shop is, and as you’ve asked where’s the best place to go, Google will most probably offer you customer reviews so you can make up your mind as to where to go.

Before Hummingbird, the algorithm may have focused more on keywords that have been written into the query. So, for example Google may have displayed multiple different answers, not knowing exactly what you wanted.

For example, you may have shown a recipe for how to make a pizza, or a list of Italian restaurants that are not based near you, and only if you mentioned your location, you will have had pizza restaurants listed your location.

So, Google’s Hummingbird update basically allows the algorithm to work out intent, as in looking beyond just the words, and focusing more on what does the query mean.

Voice search

Now, most of us know that voice search is now becoming popular and also very convenient for Android users.

And now you can see how SEO companies now understand that Hummingbird allows Google to answer more complicated questions.

Such as “what are the most comfortable running trainers that you can buy”- this is a complicated query, yet with the Hummingbird update, Google can offer better results.

For example, the query displays an intention to buy something through the word “buy”, yet the query doesn’t just specify that the person wants to buy any old running trainers, no, they want “comfy” running trainers.

So, you got it, us seo agencies now know that Google can return accurate answers to what we call more “conversational” searches.

So just as you would speak to a friend, you can now speak in the same manner to Google, and the algorithm will be better equipped to understand what you mean even if the question you are asking is much more complicated.

How does this change SEO?

The rules regarding seo haven’t really changed that much, that’s to say your business, or your appointed seo agency should create good quality work.

However, one aspect that’s now more important than ever, and that’s to create really good quality content marketing.

This means that you should aim to offer better advice than any of your competitors. For example, let’s return to our example of comfy running trainers’, how would a business rank high for “comfy running trainers?”.

Well our marketing agency would say that the best way for your business to rank for such a term would be to create content marketing that explains your product clearly.

The work should clearly explain the benefits of using your product, and also answer as best you can the likely questions that your customers are likely to have.

Therefore, the old seo methods are somewhat dead, that’s trying to optimise a website by adding in the phrases that you wish your business to rank for, by writing them over and over again on your website.

Now in this new era of the Hummingbird update, Google will connect a query such as “comfy running trainers” with a website that’s offering the best advice.

The normal seo rules apply in terms of the seo business should aim to build good quality backlinks to that page. As the more good quality and relevant backlinks sending “link juice” to that page, the higher the chance of that page ranking higher.

So now businesses compete on who can answer their customers questions the best.

Therefore, the very best seo companies now don’t just optimise a client’s website by trying to fool the search engines with simple seo. Now seo companies optimise a website by making it as relevant and useful as they can.

By offering quality advice, your website should benefit from better rankings.

What is a 301 redirect?

Introduction

When a lot of business owners are thinking about investing in SEO, quite often they can quickly become confused by the amount of technical language that is often used.

That’s to say, a lot of business owners just want straightforward marketing advice, and not to be bombarded by marketing jargon.

And this is where our digital marketing agency can help you, that’s because we explain things in a crystal-clear way.

Within this article we are going to explain what 301 redirects are, and why some seo agencies use them.

What is a 301 redirect?

Sometimes a page will change its url. This basically means that when you enter a web address, sometimes this will have changed.

So for example, a subpage of our website may have the extension /link-building yet, we may change that page’s url to /white-hat-link-building instead.

This means the url will have changed, and what may happen is people may click on a link, and because the link has changed, they may be presented with what’s called a “404 page”.

A 404 page is essentially a broken link. So, in order for this not to happen, the marketing agency or website designer may implement what’s called a 301 redirect.

So a 301-redirect is just a way of saying that a page has moved to this url instead. It’s really as simple as that.

Who would implement a 301 redirect?

Well, we most certainly wouldn’t recommend just implementing 301 redirects for the sake of it.

Often 301-redirects are only used when say a new product range is launched for example. So, for example, you may retail luxury watches, and the new season means that a new product range has been released.

You know that people will be looking for a certain brand of watch, and also the name of that watch that the manufacturer has chosen.

So, you may want to place the manufacturers name, and the watches’ name in the url. The old model watch, which has now been replaced by the new model, you may place a 301-redirect on the old page.

This way when someone is looking for that brand of watch, they will no longer land on 404 page on your website. Instead they will be presented with the new watch.

404 pages

404 pages should not accumulate, your website design agency, or your seo company should implement 301 redirects.

What can happen is people may click a backlink that leads to your website, then because the page has been removed, they will be greeted by a 404 page instead. This may mean they leave your website, and then they may go straight to a competitor’s website.

Therefore, businesses normally implement 301 redirects, this may direct the visitor to a similar product.

Permanent redirects

Most seo companies agree that if redirects have to be used, that a 301-redirect should be used. The reason being is 301-redirects can be considered a permanent redirect.

This is important, as if you have backlinks pointing to that page, you do not want to lose the link juice through a broken link.

Backlinks

If you talk to any digital marketing agency, they will tell you that backlinks are an important part of implementing SEO. However, your business will only want good quality backlinks linking to your website.

Google Search Console

You can use Google Search Console to request which URL’s turn up with 404 errors.

This means that many agencies use Google Search Console to obtain a link report, this will help a website designer or seo business to fix any broken links.

How can we get our business onto the first page of Google?

Introduction

Are you starting a brand-new business? Well, if you are, then its more than likely that you will want to get that business onto the first page of Google.

After all, if you’re not on the first page of Google, then you could be handing a massive competitive advantage to a rival business.

So without further ado, we are going to explain the basics of seo, so you can work out if this form of marketing would be suitable for your business.

Crawling and indexing

You may have an impressive looking website, one which may have cost your business quite a lot of money, yet if it can’t be crawled and indexed then its useless from an SEO perspective.

So, first things first, your seo agency must make sure that Googlebot can crawl and index the website.

This basically means can Google read your businesses website? Your seo company should create a site map for your business.

Also, if your digital marketing business carries out a lot of SEO work, perhaps for instance your website has been redesigned, then they may request that the website gets recrawled.

Its important to remember that Googlebot will recrawl your website on a regular basis.

So, with this in mind, if your company website is down for any great length of time, perhaps while it is changed, well this can mean the website drops in terms of where it ranks.

A good seo business should therefore make it easy for Google to crawl and index your website, so that Google can spot new work that has been added.

This is why businesses regularly add blog posts, its so Googlebot can spot the changes, and if the seo work is of good quality, the algorithm may reward the business with higher rankings.

Algorithm

You may have noticed that we have mentioned the word “algorithm” within this blog post quite a few times already.

The reason for that is it’s the algorithm that decides where a business should be ranked. That’s to say it’s the algorithm which decides should the business be on the first page of Google, or the 10th?

The algorithm is thought to take into account over 200 factors, that’s when deciding where your business should be ranked.

So, as you can imagine, this is what keeps us seo companies very busy indeed.

Some businesses think that once a website reaches the top of Google, that it stays there permanently.

However, this is not the case, that’s because Google’s algorithm makes changes to where all businesses are ranked on a regular basis. So, if a competitor has a stronger website, it terms of its seo, then will overtake your business.

White hat

It might be at this point that you are sold on the idea of SEO, yet its worth knowing this before you do find an seo agency.

You must invest in what is called “white hat” seo, the reason being is if you do find an seo company, and they implement low quality work, this could result in a penalty.

Now a penalty could be that your website drops, that’s in terms of where it ranks, or it could be removed altogether.

So, in a nutshell, low quality seo is often a false economy.

Organic seo

When you invest in digital marketing, the different services can all sound really confusing. For example, there’s PPC, social media advertising, local seo and organic seo to name just a few.

However, the majority of the SERP’S (search engine results pages) are made up of organic business listings.

This means that businesses often face fierce competition to get onto the first page. To climb the organic business listings most businesses therefore pay an seo company to implement organic seo.

7 things to know when investing in SEO

Introduction

It can sometimes be the case for some businesses that the more traditional forms of advertising are no longer generating the level of sales required.

So, whether you’re thinking of investing now, or someway off into the future we believe that all businesses should know these seven facts regarding organic seo.

#1 Acknowledge that organic is not a fast process

Despite what some agencies may claim, organic seo is most definitely not a fast process. Some of the best in the business would undoubtably support this view, and that is organic seo if it’s implemented according to white hat standards, takes a lot of time to implement correctly.

Also, it’s worth keeping in mind that organic seo is rarely a one-off process neither. Instead most businesses now require organic seo to be implemented on a continuous process.

#2 Cheap seo is often a false economy

Everybody loves a bargain, right? Well you’re certainly not wrong there, however there’s some things we think that a business can save a few quid on, yet seo shouldn’t be one of them.

However, this doesn’t mean we are encouraging you to use the most expensive digital marketing agency that you can find, yet a balance we think should be struck.

The reason being is this, if the seo agency does cut corners, then basically your website could incur a penalty.

Now if a penalty is imposed onto your website, well it’s no laughing matter that’s for sure. A penalty can basically mean that the websites rankings will drop, and in some instances, it can even mean that the website is removed from the search engine altogether.

So, a word to the wise, choose a white hat agency, that’s one that delivers quality work.

#3 Smoke and mirrors

Ever had a meeting with a digital marketing agency and it seemed as though they were speaking a completely different language?

Well its not uncommon for some agencies to do this deliberately. The purpose is to make it appear as though the agency is offering or doing more than what they actually are.

So, if you find yourself in a meeting, and your agency is making it clear that they don’t want to explain things using plain English, well we don’t think this is a good sign.

In a nutshell, everything seo related can be communicated without using tons of marketing jargon. In matter of fact, that’s the approach that our marketing agency has taken right from the start.

We find that way that most businesses want to know exactly what methods are being used, rather than listening to marketing waffle.

#4 Local

Think about how far the agency is located from your business. If you need to attend regular meetings, then you may prefer a business that’s local to you.

#5 Quality always pays

When you’ve found an agency that you like the sound of, its important to work out whether they are using white hat methods.

It always pays to invest in quality seo, anything less could mean your website incurs a penalty.

#6 Over optimising is a real problem

Sometimes some businesses will optimise their own websites, which can sometimes work just great.

Yet, what can sometimes happen is, if the person optimising the website only has basic knowledge of how seo works, well it’s possible to over-optimise a website.

This often happens when a business tries to target a commercially important term, but does this too much.

So, for instance, an plumber may want to obtain more work within one city in particular, so they may over-optimise their website for the term “plumber + a cities name”.

This can mean that the algorithms think that the website is spam, and that the business is using low quality seo methods.

And that’s right, you guessed it, the website could incur a penalty.

#7 Work with an agency that you know you can work with over the long-term

You may want to go with one particular agency, and that’s because they rank right at the top of Google for digital marketing agency near your business, and that’s all well and good.

Yet, you may be assigned an account manager that doesn’t answer your e-mails or phone calls.

Or quite possibly the way they are explaining things leaves you with more questions than it does answers. So, in this situation we would advise this, you have to work with an agency that you know you can work with over the long run.

After all, for some businesses their website is the main way that they now generate sales, so its essential that you partner with the right agency.

You will need to be in communication with someone that explains the marketing strategy that they are using and explains the methods they are using to get there.

Which SEO metrics should our business be following in our Google Analytics account?

Introduction

It all too easy to hand every seo task over to your online marketing agency. As when you think about it, that’s what they are getting paid for, right?

Well, as a business owner, or someone who is managing the businesses marketing activities, it’s also crucial that you keep an eye on the businesses marketing metrics as well (We know we are stating the obvious here!).

Yet, with that said, you may well be shocked by just how many businesses just take their seo report at face value.

That’s to say, a quick opening of their e-mail received from the seo company, a few looks at the fancy line graphs, and pie charts that they have sent, and that’s all some business owners look at.

But at our agency we are different, we don’t like rubbish reports which really don’t provide much useful data.

Instead we monitor a few key metrics very closely, and we then report these clearly to each of our customers.

So, here’s what our business reports on:

Rankings

Now, when you appoint a new seo agency, the obvious task that you would like them to help you with is to improve your businesses rankings.

Yet, here’s a word to the wise, its worth making sure that they target the right keywords, and here’s why:

Keywords that have a low search volume

It’s all well and good ranking at the top of Google, on the first page for a term such as “we are one of the best dentists in so and so an area”- yet you must ask yourself who’s searching for that?

When in reality the real important terms are likely to be “cosmetic dentist + area” or “teeth whitening + area”.

So, what we are getting at here is some terms are more likely to generate your business, than some others.

So, make sure your seo company is targeting the keywords that are more likely to generate your business.

Long tail keywords

Now, it’s worth bearing this in mind also, sometimes ranking for the really important terms can be mighty difficult.

Just imagine for a second how hard it would be to launch a new car insurance brand, and then trying to get that business to rank high against all the established competition that’s out there.

So, your digital marketing agency, and your business should sit down and think of some terms that have a search volume, yet are not as difficult to try and rank for as the super competitive phrases, such as “car insurance”. This will help the business to get some visitors, while the seo company is going after the more important keywords.

So, you guessed it, it’s a balance between going after the important keywords, the ones that are most likely to drive more visitors to your website, and ensuring that in the meantime you are getting some people onto your business’s website via longtail keywords.

Use your businesses Google Search Console accounts to see where your business is ranking for certain terms.

Organic traffic

If you hire a local seo company, then most of the time what the business will want to do is improve where your business ranks organically.

If the seo business that you choose is really good, like we are, then they should also be looking to improve where your business ranks on the map listings as well.

These listings are sometimes called the “Google My Business listings”. Yet, returning to the point at hand, organic traffic is really important. The reason being is most of the business listings are organic business listings.

Say you were searching to find a local pet store for example, now the majority of the businesses that will be listed will be organic business listings.

To improve where your business ranks here, your seo agency must improve your business “ranking signals”.

That’s to ensure that your business strengthens its ranking signals. So that you can check how many visitors you are getting via your business’s organic listings, you should check your Google Analytics account on a regular basis.

Bounce rates

Imagine this, you are launching a new restaurant within a busy city, and tonight’s the opening night.

The doors are open, and your waiting to hand our champagne to each customer, yet people are entering the restaurant, then turning straight around and walking back out the door.

Well, its for certain that the business owner would know that something isn’t right. Immediately you would be asking questions like is it the décor right or is the menu wrong, or have you set the prices too high?

Well the same should be said about your website, and that’s why your business should be monitoring its bounce rate.

Now the bounce rate sounds pretty complicated, but its not, it just the percentage of visitors that have landed on your website, and then have pretty much decided that they want to leave straightaway.

Just as the restaurant is asking questions, so should you, for example you should be asking whether your website is slow to load, is the website easy to navigate, i.e is the menu easy to use.

If you have a high bounce rate, you should be looking at why, and reducing it in order to improve your businesses seo.

It’s all well and good having a website that looks impressive, yet if it doesn’t work easily, like loading quickly onto a smartphone, then you should look to make some changes with the help of your website designer.

Backlinks

Your seo agency should be checking your websites backlinks on a regular basis. If poor quality backlinks do accumulate, then this could mean that your website incurs a penalty, such as a Google Penguin penalty.

Such penalties can mean that the website suffers a drop-in rankings.

So, use your businesses Google Search Console account, previously known as the Web Master tools account. And then you can obtain your backlinks via an Excel document.
